Battle of Gazala (1942)

Descrição
The year is 1942 and the desert war is in a constant state of flux. Rommel fights back and forth against a never-ending carousel of British generals, where victories on either side are undone in a matter of months, partially due to incompetence, mostly due to the appalling logistics of desert warfare.

After being thoroughly routed during Operation Crusader, Rommel finds himself on the initiative again after the British overreach their supply lines. Their short-lived second liberation of Benghazi is undone as the Afrika Corps charges back up the Libyan coast, in an almost exact replica of Unternehmen Sonnenblume the previous year. The Eighth Army, wanting to keep pressure off the key port of Tobruk, halt at the 'Gazala Line' anchored at the eponymous coastal town. There they plan to dig in and prepare for their own counteroffensive.

Rommel has no intention of waiting for such a thing. He draws up a daring plan to outflank the Gazala Line and surround Tobruk; if he plays this right then he can remove the thorn in his side that held up his entire 1941 campaign. And if things should go well and the Eighth Army descends into chaos, then there might be no stopping the Axis from entering Egypt...

(There has been some noise made about a possibly official Axis desert campaign, but as such a thing hasn't been confirmed and still might be up in the air, I felt I may as well put this out and see how it does. Granted, this does mean that a few months from now this scenario may be completely obsolete but oh well! If people care to see it (or if the devs confirm that there won't be an Afrika Korps dlc) then I'll make '1st El Alamein' from the Axis perspective as well.

Sadly, I am unable (or simply have no clue how) to edit in fixed fortifications, therefore the 'Bir Hakeim' objective is not nearly as tough to take here as it is in the official 'Crusader' scenario. Hope you can be understanding!

And finally, for those that are interested, I wrote somewhat of a meme guide for a certain division in the game, that you can check out here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2843420073

Good luck and have fun! This scenario is balanced for Classic difficulty.)

EDIT: Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it!) it seems this scenario will be made obsolete by the upcoming "Desert Fox" expansion - nonetheless I will keep this scenario up in the workshop for those who bought "Desert Rats" but have no interest in "Desert Fox" as this scenario will not require the latter DLC to play.

@Franklin1918, thank you! I would love to do a Winter War scenario but half of Finland isn't on the map as of yet, so it wouldn't really work out I think. There's already a fantastic Continuation War scenario in the Barbarossa dlc, I recommend you check that out!

Great job! Any chance for Winter war or continuation war missions?

It would be a waste missing the opportunity to release an Afrika Korps DLC, the maps and units are already there, so I hope you are right @EgoVermin. For now I will enjoy playing this scenario created by you ahahaha.

P.S. I am kinda sad the devs didn't make a different model for the Panzer III in the last DLC, I would have appreciated a Panzer III Ausf. H model, at least from the Crusader mission...

Thanks for the kind words guys! @FrancenCZ All are welcome to infringe on any 'claims'! Someone else doing something like '1st El Alamein' would save me from having to do it (and besides, I've got a hunch the devs might be working on it)! Also, I spent more time writing the Slovak guide than I did working on this scenario lmao

Loved it, more german missions please (:
FrancenCZ 19/ago./2022 às 14:19
So this! Is what you have been up to you bastard. I wonder what you are gonna come up with next. I am not gonna infringe upon your African claim. Have plenty of work with the East still XD

This mission is pretty hard on "Classic" difficulty, I will have to replay several times before achieving all the objectives. Keep up the good work!

Good mission as always

Ho ho, spoilers! Had no idea the ability to edit forts existed, thank you for this. I'll see what I can do about updating this scenario (although, naturally, I may have to rebalance it...)
Cheers!
