Lucky Characters

Description
Lucky Characters!
a Crusader Kings 3 Mod by Okto
Achievement compatible & with German localisation!

Updated to 1.7 1.8 1.9 1.10 1.11 1.12 1.13 1.14 1.15 1.16. There shouldn't be any issues with the new version, though I haven't had time to test everything. Let me know if theres any issues.

Did you ever wanted to see strong realms emerging from weak counts? Support the nearby Adamite Duke without allying those perverts? Rather not have to deal with the one African Ruler with Scurge of the Gods? Or make sure that the Mongol Horde ends the Iberian struggle?

Now you can!

The lucky characters mod adds the “Lucky” trait, giving the character a variety of bonuses, ranging from increased spy defense to strong army modifiers without making them too OP.
You will be able to grant and remove the Lucky trait manually, make the primary heir inherit Luck and allow up to 25% of the world’s rulers to start out stronger than the rest. There is also the fabled “Extremely Lucky” trait, which makes the landed ruler of your choice the strongest human of their generation, though without your interference their heirs might struggle to hold the realm together after their passing.
Update! You will now also be able to choose who's a great Conqueror and remove the Conqueror trait and Scurge of the Gods modifier from rulers who are not.

Features

The Lucky and Extremely Lucky trait
  • gives the character no matter the distance various bonuses and the AI incentives to be more aggressive
  • includes stress reduction, spy defense, income and stronger armies
  • not satisfied with the normal trait? get the extremely lucky trait to boost the characters base stats and all the other modifiers!
  • normal Luck can be inherited by the primary heir, strengthening their whole dynasty
  • both traits can also be removed at any time!
NEW! Conqueror Trait options!
  • allows you to add and remove the conqueror event chain (and thus the conquerer trait!) from rulers
  • conqueror rulers may also be granted or revoked the Scurge of the Gods modifier
  • rulers need to be independent, atleast dukes, not at the lowest presige level and not be incapable (else they lose it instantly)
  • since the interaction uses the Vanilla event chain rulers can lose the trait naturally, like for being to long at peace
  • inheritance should be determined by the conqueror-related vanilla game rule

Random Distribution at Game Start
  • you can enable luck trait distribution at gamestart
  • disabled per default, but can be set to 1%, 5%, 10% and 25%
  • not happy with everyone being lucky? Remove both Luck traits from every ruler with the help of a (brand new!) character interaction! (note that this might be a bit laggy if you have many lucky characters)

Gamerules
  • 2 new game rules to govern the behavior of the mod
  • decide if the lucky trait can be inherited
  • decide if and how the lucky trait is handed out at game start

NEW! All in One Neat Decision!
  • all interactions are hidden by default, but are revealed by a new decision
  • once enabled, the interactions can be found in the character interaction menu under personal

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mod depends on the Vanilla Conqueror event chain for the Conqueror trait and the 'decisions' category for its decision. Messing with either of those might have unintended effects, but generally you should be fine.

Inspired by the Lucky Rulers feature from the CK2 Historical Immersion Project. There is also the ‘Lucky Rulers Mod’ made by 'oh no', which accomplishes something similar but without inheritance or game start distribution and more options for the lucky trait, but is also more unbalanced in my humble opinion.

Note that I’m more of a hoi4 modder and did this just for fun in one day. So if you have bug reports, balance opinions or reasonable feature requests, let me know in the comments!

a game rule and/or decision to hide to ability to give people the traits by cheating would be good for people like me with no self control. just an idea though, thanks for the mod been following it for a long time.

Ok, thanks.

No. You can just ignore the content that relates to the Lucky traits. Pretty sure you can just add and remove this mode from your savegame as long as you dont hand out lucky traits.

Is there a separate version of this mod that only has the feature to add and remove conquerors?

@Jeremy Lin I have only updated the version number, I didn't change any content. Theres a good chance that the mod should still work in the previous version. You might also be able to just change the version number in files back to 1.14.*

@Escaton @LNSS Thanks for motivating me to actually work on my mod. I've added the ability to activate or end the Conqueror event chain (and thus the Conqueror trait) for any eligible ruler, as well as add the ability to grant or remove the Scurge of the Gods modifier from Conquerors. I've also steamlined the character interactions a bit so all interactions are visible once you activate a new decision. I've removed the game rule that did the same thing. Additionally, I've implemented @Escaton's german localisation with a few adjustments. Dankeschön!!
I will update the workshop description later.

@LNSS i have added some lines to be able to do exactly that, to add and revoke the conqueror trait as well! https://github.com/Escatonic/LCConq

I'll see what I can do, but I'd propably have to rework how you give somebody traits so the interface isn't so cluttered. Its a great idea though
