Throughout your playthrough of Dying Light 2, there will be several story-changing moments where you have to make difficult decisions that can affect the ending you get. In this guide, I'll walk you through everything that can affect which of the 8 (yes, 8!) Dying Light 2 endings you can get. We'll talk a bit about each of the main options and what they change in the Epilogue, as well as how to get the best and worst endings in the game.

How many endings are in Dying Light 2?

The ending you get in Dying Light 2 depends on several important decisions. For example these:

• Will you kill or spare Hakon;
  
• Are you giving VNC Tower to Frank or someone else;
  
• Whether you decide to save Mia or Loana.

The final choice is the one you make during the Epilogue and is the most important one, as it determines whether Villedor survives or is destroyed.

Why 8 possible endings?
There are technically 8 endings in Dying Light 2, since you have three sets of binary options, from which you can get 8 possible configurations:

• AAA, AAB, ABA, ABB, BAA, BAB, BBA, BBB

This means that Dying Light 2 technically has 8 different endings. For most of them, the differences are quite insignificant, but the above options still matter. Below I will explain what changes with each of these options and explain how to get the best or worst ending in the game.

What will change if you kill or spare Hakon?

If you spare Hakon, he will appear at the very end of the game to save whoever you choose to save between Loana and Mia. However, even if Hakon saves Miya, she will soon die.

If you kill Hakon, then no one will come to the aid of those whom you do not decide to save, and they will immediately die in the explosion. If you choose this path, then you will have to leave the city on your own.

What will change if you give the VNC tower to Frank?

If you give the VNC Tower to Frank, then the Survivors will capture Villedor (if Villedor is not destroyed - see the next choice), and if Loan survives, she will leave the city with Aiden.

If you give the VNC Tower to Jack Matt or Juan, the Peacekeepers will take over Villedor (if he is still standing) and whether Loan lives or dies, Aiden will leave town without her.

What will change if you save Loan or Mia?

If you save Mia, then Willedor will survive. Loan will successfully detonate the charges, destroy the rockets before they blow up the city. However, Miya will still die shortly after saving her, and Loan will also die if you don't spare Hakon.

If you save Loan, then Villedor will be practically destroyed. Mia dies along with everyone else, except for the protagonist and Loan.

How to get the best ending in Dying Light 2

Given the ending options above, it should be fairly clear how to achieve the best possible ending for Dying Light 2:

• Spare Hakon, give the VNC tower to Frank, and save Mia.

Unfortunately, Mia's death is inevitable, but you need to let Loan sacrifice herself to save the city and its people. However, if you spared Hakon, Loan will still be alive; and if you gave the VNC Tower to Frank, Loan will see fit to join you on your travels. The game ends with a cutscene of the two of you leaving Villedor. Thus, this is the way to save most people and the only ending where you can leave Villedor with Loana.

How to get a bad ending in Dying Light 2

On the other hand, if you're a true enthusiast, then here's how to get the worst ending in Dying Light 2:

• Kill Hakon, don't give the VNC tower to Frank, and save Loana.

Honestly, the only choice that really matters is saving Loana. The city is destroyed, but Mia dies anyway. What little is left of Willedor is under the control of the Peacekeepers, and despite rescuing Loana, she won't come with you.

How to get the secret ending in Dying Light 2

There is another ending worth highlighting because it gives you a unique cutscene at the end of the game:

• Spare Hakon and save Loana

It doesn't matter who you give the VNC Tower to here, except obviously that it determines who controls what's left of Villedor after the missiles hit the city. If you choose these two options, the city will be destroyed. The loan will refuse to join you, instead, Hakon will be with you at the very end. Thus, you both leave the city together, by your original deal with each other at the beginning of the game.

This is hardly a good ending because Villedor is destroyed, almost everyone (including Mia) is dead, and you will never see Loan again despite saving her. But at least you have Hakon!
