Sowing Manager

Description
Feature
This mod allows you to set stock thresholds directly on your Growing Zones, ensuring your pawns know when to stop sowing.

It also fully supports Hydroponics.

How to Use
  • Create your growing zone as usual.
  • While the zone is selected, open the Sowing tab (located on the left, above the Inspect panel).
  • Enable the Sowing Manager. Without enabling it, your zone will behave like a standard vanilla growing zone.
  • Set the desired stock threshold. The manager will count all relevant items on the map.
  • Once your stock reaches or exceeds the threshold, sowing in the zone will automatically be disabled.
  • If your stock falls below the threshold, sowing will automatically resume.

The "Set as Default" button allows you to save your settings and apply them automatically to newly created zones.

Existing Save Games
  • All existing growing zones will remain vanilla by default and will continue to function as normal (with the exception of expanding and shrinking).
  • To use the Sowing Manager with an existing save, simply create new growing zones.

Removing from Save Games
  • To ensure a safe removal of the mod, you must delete all growing zones that have Sowing Manager enabled before removing the mod.
  • If you do not delete them, you may encounter exceptions when loading the save, and your zones will be removed anyway.

Compatibility

Smart Farming
  • If the Sowing Manager is enabled and the threshold is reached, sowing will be disabled — Smart Farming cannot override this behavior.
  • If the threshold has not been reached, Sowing Manager allows Smart Farming to manage sowing as usual.
  • If you manually disable sowing via Smart Farming, Sowing Manager will respect that setting and not override it.

Project RimFactory Revived
  • Cultivators from this mod are fully compatible with Sowing Manager.

Hydroponics Mods
  • Sowing Manager is compatible with most mods that add Hydroponics functionality.

Does this work with multiplayer?

IMO, Zone thresholds aremore important as with most growable resources, they are consumed.
being able to stagger the growing zones, so that at different thresholds there's a different amount grown.
Although, being able to link hydroponics so the check only happens once would be good. (dunno if this is already a feature, haven't gotten to that point with this mod yet.)

Hey, thanks for the detailed feedback, appreciate it. You are right, this mod probably would not exist if I knew about Farming Hysteresis at that time.

The points you are mentioning I allready thought about, I admit I just didn't implement it cause I felt the work/value ratio was quite a bit off, I barely ever need those features but of course they would be nice from time to time.

I will add the colony wide threshold to Upcoming Features and will add it in the near future. This should not be a big deal.

For the threshold based on other item I will add them in a category suggested Features and might come back to that if more people would be happy to use that feature.

What is missing to both mods is setting the threshold to something else rather than the plant cultivated in that zone, like for instance fabricated meal types, but why stop there. With this addition will make even more sense to have a colony wide threshold.

Nice job, it looks very similar to this other mod called Farming Hysteresis (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2431191516) .

They do differ in a couple of details, the other one:
- applies by default two stock thresholds to each plant type (upper bound and lower bound), regardless of the zone, which need to be set in the mod options, but can be altered trough zone UI too
- has a 3 states control logic for the sowing
- the author does not state the compatibility with other mods as you did, which I find invaluable

I think I prefer yours because I won't need to to go an check for each plant the pre-set threshold prior even setting up the grow zone, still having a common thresholds among all the zones growing the same plants makes more sense.
So it would be nice to have as an option at least to set up a global colony wide threshold, while still being able to set up individual zones to have their own specific threshold remains valuable for granularity sake.

I am on a game with Project RimFactory Revived and noticed, this mod was not compatible with the cultivators. So i made a little update.

Reassuring to hear that. Thanks, glad you like it.

Yep doesn't happen with new items. Great mod btw.

Can confirm it does not happen in my game. As I updated the mod for hydroponics added from other mods, in order for it to work you had to replace 1 hydroponics of that type to make it work for all other allready placed types. May you could try that: 1. simply Save and Reload Game 2. place/replace some items of that type and check if the problem persists. 3. Check if the problem also appears on a new game. (That would not solve the problem in your actual save game but would be essential for my own sanity)

Chunks, Meals and Resources like steel and silver, not basic subcores however.
