Well, I checked how it works with more bookmarks+ and RICE, and did not experience crashes. But it is possible that you are using a mod that is incompatible with this or some other mod. In my experience, the weakest Witchcraft mod compatibility is with other mods touching on the magic/witchcraft theme. But the risk exists with any mod.
I like when each playthrough looks a little different, I like the randomness ;p
One place of power always appears in Eastern Europe, so in this sense, playing there can actually be beneficial (although in any case, it will probably take a long time before you get it). The other two places of power are completely random.
The reason is the places of power will be more accessible to you when you find them, though I was still able to claim all of them as someone starting in the southern tip of India, about as far away as I could get from them.
I think not. Although, in theory, playing as a ruler of higher rank is a little easier (that's why I usually start as a count ;p). I also recommend you check/adjust the game rules.
