Have you ever asked yourself the big questions in life?
Why are we here? What does it all mean? What happens when we die, like, repeatedly?

The answers you've been looking for are all right here.

The purpose of this guide is to put together builds where you end up with as many boons as possible from one god and no boons from any other god. It's just a silly way to play the game. I don't even think there's an achievement for it!

In order to pull it off you'll need the house mostly unlocked and, even if it works out, the build you wind up with may be a more of a plowshare than a sword.

So how should you follow the one true path? To get started, I'm just going to need you to sell all of your possessions, give the money to the poor and follow me.

Just kidding!

The rules of Hades Monotheism are, as with all religions, whatever you make up:
  • Is the purging pool allowed?
    Up to you!

  • Do Daedalus and Chaos count as a gods?
    Only if you say so!

  • Do you have to be holding the Holy Keepsake when you win?
If you're up for the challenge!

  • If you put together the perfect Artemis build will she be your girlfriend in real life?
    Let's move on!
Flexible Worship
Hades keeps track of which gods you pick and gives you more boons from those gods. The first 4 gods you pick will be your god pool. You might reasonably think that keeping this empty of all gods but The One True God would be the most righteous way to live. Nevertheless I tell you the truth, it is easier to control your build when the pool is full.

In order to truly serve The One True God you will have to temporarily pretend to worship a few false gods. It's fine. Every monotheism has its compromises, even Zoroastrianism. [citation needed]

Fated Authority, maxed out

Fated Keys - This makes key rewards refill Fated Authority dice rolls.

Hypnos
Persephone (optional)
The One True God
Euridice (optional)
Narrow is the gate...
Equip Hypnos's trinket for Tartarus. The goal here is to fill your god pool ASAP. You will we need four boons from four different gods, including The One True God. The extra cash from the trinket is to pick up a boon at the first shop if needed. Take non-boons as needed.

Try to get the heathen boons into core slots. They'll be easier to replace later. It's actually fine to over-write core boons at this step. You'll still have the original god in your pool.

Your god pool is now complete. If you haven't decided who The One True God is yet, I bring you glad tidings: You can pick anyone in your pool. If you were reaching out for a particular god only to find yourself forsaken, fear not. It's never too late to convert.

If you're not too devout to use the purging pool, get rid of as many non-core false god boons as you can. You generally want to get rid of core boons too, but they work in slightly more mysterious ways.

One of the few ways to increase boon rarity is to replace a boon from another god. There is a 10% chance of this happening each time you pick up a boon, if it can happen. If this roll fails, you will be offered a core boon for an empty slot, if you have one.

So it makes sense to keep one slot filled with a false god boon that you're working to upgrade and the others empty until your build is complete and The One True God's peace reigns eternal.

Equip any keepsake in Asphodel that doesn't affect boon rewards. I like to drive this stretch with Persephone on the dashboard. Keep an eye out for keys. Fated Authority gives you 8 re-rolls when fully maxed. Keys reward rooms refill dice rolls and they can go over 8. (bought keys don't count)

Be stingy with your Fated Authority rolls. Use them just to avoid false god boons. Rolling to try and target the One True God will burn your rolls quickly. Door rewards repeat after about three rolls, so it might cost you three rolls just to find out a door doesn't have what you want and reset.

If you're feeling lucky you can risk picking up false god boons in a duel of the gods room or with a mystery sack. If you can't overwrite them you'll need to use the purging pool or you may experience some unexpected weeping and/or gnashing of teeth.
...and difficult the way
Equip the keepsake for The One True God in Elysium. The reason that you abstained this long is that keepsakes only cause a boon drop once per run, not once per biome. Using it later gives you one more chance to overwrite something.

You're still looking for keys and they will be harder to find. Picking up a bad boon is more of a problem here since you're running out of options to get rid of them. Burn dice as needed, but try to save your rolls for the next biome.

I like to equip the Acorn in Styx, but I'm sort of a cafeteria Hades Monotheist. If you're more of a traditionalist, you can keep the One True God's keepsake equipped for the end. Maybe you'll get sainted or something.

You don't want to get stuck with a forbidden boon at the last second and be cast out into the wilderness. Hopefully you have some dice left.
  • Re-roll labyrinth rewards for false god chambers to non-boon or True God
  • Do the labyrinth tunnel(s) with rewards for The One True God
  • Do non-boon chambers one by one
If you run out of rolls with false god boons still showing, you have a choice. Do them first and hope to shed them or save them til last and hope not to need those doors. Count up your showing True God rewards (it may be zero) and do that many at most. The purging pool will be a long shot at this point.

Once you have the sack, you can burn any remaining dice on non-boon chambers to see if you can get more boons. If there are boons to buy from Charon, get them at the very end.

That's basically it. Good luck finishing out your pure Poseidon run! Did you remember to bring the Poseidon sword? For extra Poseidon?
Shortly

Yep. Forgot the sword.

It's really fun to try a build that's not just min-maxing, but actually tries to be fun and creative.

While the title is a joke, the term for groups that worship a specific god above others is a cult

I.E. the cult of Dionysus or the cult of Aphrodite

Wonderful post! It really should be an achievement. All we can do for now is award you for spreading the good word.
