Rom Hacks and Homebrew That Work on Real Hardware

A list of rom hacks and homebrew sega genesis games I have tested on my model 2 genesis.

Why make a guide like this?

Since every ROM downloaded from the workshop is accessible it makes sense to try and run them on real hardware for a unique experience. I wanted to let those who own original hardware and happen to have a flashcart know what ROM hacks and homebrew available on the workshop work on real hardware. So that you do not waste time on the hacks that do not work. (I highly encourage adding in your own reports in the comments for hacks I may have missed. If there is a game listed as non-working and you find a way to make it work put it in the comments or make your own guide.) This guide will be updated accordingly with more test I run down the line.

Hardware the games were tested on.

The flash cart model is an Everdrive MD. The Sega Genesis is a model 2 with a model number of MK-1631 for anyone who is interested.

Sonic Rom Hacks That Work on Real Hardware

Sonic Classic Heroes works on the model 2 Genesis without any issues other than some minor graphical glitches in the file select screen and some heavy slow down in labyrinth zone.

Sega Sonic Bros. This fan port of the arcade title Sega Sonic Bros. works without any problems. I have not test two player mode as I do not have any one to test it with.

Sonic Rom Hacks That Do Not Work on Real Hardware

Yoshi in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. This ROM hack boots up and will let you access the options menu. It crashes after selecting the main game mode however.

Homebrew That Works on Real Hardware

Super Mario Bros. The Super Mario Bros. port for Sega Genesis works without issue. All levels were played through and worked perfectly. The multiplayer functions just as well as single-player does.
