Ultimate Acrid Guide

This guide covers multiple aspects of mastering Acrid, including items, abilities and strategy.

Items

You'll need to know particular items that are amazing with Acrid. Acrid can easily dish out damage-over-time effects, so area-of-effect items are essential. Note that I didn't include legendary (red) items in this section of the guide.

Gasoline - essential for hordes, you can use a melee attack (such as Vicious Wounds) to maul an enemy and watch the rest of 'em get roasted. Ignition tanks drastically increase the damage of Gasoline, so get these as well.


Topaz Brooch - Acrid has no natural defense, so this helps Acrid stay healthy and robust. One of these grants a 15 HP barrier on kill (the barrier is only temporary).


Energy Drink - Acrid is good with hit-and-run tactics. Get a few of these to speed through or away from groups of enemies or tanky enemies when needed.



Lens-Maker's Glasses - Get 10 of these for guaranteed critical strikes, which deal double damage. This synergizes with Harvester's Scythe, which heals you when you critically hit enemies.



Focus Crystal - Each crystal increases damage to nearby enemies by 20%. This works with Acrid's melee attacks best.



Tri-Tip Dagger - Get 10 of these to always bleed enemies on hit. Acrid can rapidly spread debuffs from items and his own attacks to enemies with his special ability Epidemic, so get these if you can.


Will-o'-the-wisp - On kill, a lava pillar spawns in a 12m (+2.4m a stack) radius for 350% (+280% a stack) base damage. Great for groups!



Harvester's Scythe - Heals you for 8 HP (+4 HP per stack) when you critically hit an enemy. With 10 Lens-Maker's Glasses, you have a heal much more powerful than a Leeching Seed.


Ukelele - a 25% chance to fire chain lightning on 3 (+2 per stack) targets within 20m (+2m per stack). Each hit from Epidemic can trigger this, making it a solid choice for an uncommon item.


Needletick - Corrupts all Tri-Tip Daggers. If the bleed debuff isn't enough for you, the Needletick might solve your problems. After a short time, enemies with Collapse are collapsed for 400% base damage.


Voidsent Flame - Corrupts all Will-o'-the-wisps. Instead of detonating on kill, enemies detonate if hit while at full health. Damage and radius increase as the item is stacked.



Lysate Cell - Corrupts all Fuel Cells. Add 1 (+1 per stack) charge of your Special skill. Reduce Special skill cooldown by 33%. This works amazingly with Acrid's Epidemic ability, allowing you to Poison or Blight more enemies!

Abilities

This section outlines different abilities I recommend you use with Acrid. Note I didn't include abilities with no alternate option, but I do explain their usage later in this section


PASSIVE - Blight
UNLOCK REQUIREMENTS: As Acrid, land the killing blow on 50 total enemies that have 1 hit point left.
DESCRIPTION: Attacks that apply Poison apply stacking Blight instead, dealing 60% damage per second.
WHY: The difference between Poison and Blight is that Blight stacks and can kill enemies.


SECONDARY: Ravenous Bite
UNLOCK REQUIREMENTS: As Acrid, land the final blow on a Scavenger.
DESCRIPTION: Poisonous. Slayer. Regenerative. Bite an enemy for 310% damage.
WHY: A move with the Slayer tag deals bonus damage to low health enemies. Use this to trigger Will-o-the-wisp and/or Gasoline.


UTILITY: Frenzied Leap
UNLOCK REQUIREMENTS: As Acrid, inflict Poison 1000 total times.
DESCRIPTION: Stunning. Leap in the air, dealing 550% damage. Reduce the cooldown by 2s for every enemy hit.
WHY: Smashing large groups with this ability can drastically increase mobility and area-of-effect damage.

Vicious Wounds: Maul an enemy for 200% damage. Every 3rd hit is Regenerative and deals 400% damage. Hitting small groups with this ability can help keep your health up.

Epidemic: Poisonous. Release a deadly disease that deals 100% damage. The disease spreads to up to 20 targets. This is where Acrid shines, especially if you get Lysate Cells. Use this on decently-large groups of preferably-weak enemies. The faster you clear 'em, the better.

Strategies with Acrid

Hit-and-run tactics are key to master with Acrid, as he has no natural defense.

- One good strategy is to leap into a group of enemies, use Epidemic, and get out of there. Maybe you can get a Ravenous Bite or two in before you yeet yourself out of that.

-Stick around if you can to use melee attacks. With Topaz Brooches, the more you kill, the more robust you become.

- Need more leaps? Get your hands on Hardlight Afterburners (Legendary)! The Hardlight Afterburner adds 2 charges to your Ultility skill (+2 per stack) and reduces your Utility skill's cooldown by 33%.

- Before you start your run, activate the Artifacts of Command, Sacrifice, and Swarms. These 3 artifacts work in tandem to get you plenty of items. That way, you can save money for drones, turrets, shrines, and the like.

Conclusion

I chose to make this guide because Acrid is my favorite survivor. Why, you might ask? His high area-of-effect and damage-over-time potential make him great for fighting groups of enemies. Also, Acrid is good doggo.

There are some items, abilities, and strategies I didn't list in this guide, but are totally possible to use. It just comes down to preference. In terms of items, I just noted what works best with Acrid, but I did miss some things. Feel free to let me know what I missed and I might add it to this guide!

blight can kill, but poison does more damage. Gasoline has a mini explosion when it triggers flame, so I use poison + gasoline.
