Christmas Bullet Mk.1 1918 Strutless Biplane

ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ
Scout Biplane, Christmas Bullet Mk.1 (1918)

This is based off of a 1918 prototype "monoplane", which was an absolute failure.
The Christmas Bullet was designed by Dr.William Whitney Christmas, a man who had no aeronautical designing experience. The idea for the Christmas Bullet came about when the United States government put out a message that they were looking for any new fighter aircraft designs, attracting many designers in with the possible reward of a large cash reward. Dr.Christmas submitted the Bullet under the guise of a modern cantilever biplane fighter, but later changed its use to be for a crazy mission to abduct the Kaiser Wilhelm II in order to force the axis powers into a hasty surrender. The Christmas Bullet was constructed at the then nearly defunct Continental Aircraft Company of Long Island, and was a major factor in the company going under shortly after it was built.
The engine of the Bullet was loaned to Dr.Christmas by the United States government, it was a "top of the line" Liberty 6 prototype engine. The Bullet was completed in mid-1918, and shown off to government representatives. However it wasn't allowed to fly because the government thought it was too risky to lose an expensive prototype engine in an unproven aircraft design. By early 1919 Dr.Christmas got tired of waiting for permission to test the Bullet, so went ahead and for a test pilot brave enough to even go anywhere near the Bullet. January, 1919 Dr.Christmas got pilot Cuthbert Mills to take the Bullet out for its first test flight. Shortly after takeoff as some engineers had suggested would probably happen, the wings of the Bullet ripped off from the fuselage and the Bullet lived up to its name. The fuselage rocketed into the ground at full force, killing test pilot Mills immediately. The Air-force had no idea that the flight was going to occur, so when they were informed that they had just lost an expensive prototype engine, they were pretty mad. But somehow Dr.Christmas was let off the hook and went on to make the Bullet Mk.2 which also crashed in the same manner as the first Bullet. In the end Dr.Christmas got paid the reward sent out in 1918 for prototypes, and was also paid the construction costs for the Bullet Mk.1.

They paid for its construction, they paid Dr.Christmas his reward money, and it was their property when it crashed.

truly a marvel of engineering, its a shame the military never accepted this design
