Many Are the Hearts That Are Looking for the Right to See the Dawn of Peace

While there are several other skins representing the American Civil War, I had a desire to try and make some of my own, now this is only a small pack with just two skins - down the line I wish to expand it, but making skins takes quite a bit of time and I have other things I want to do. I want to give a shoutout to Ga Ga Pee Pap who helped to give me inspiration on what to add for these soldiers. I highly encourage you to check out his Civil War-based maps.

There are currently only two skins in this pack and are as follows:

Union Soldier
  • This soldier is inspired by the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, part of the esteemed Iron Brigade which had seen service throughout majority of the war and in some of its most horrible battles. Originally sporting gray uniforms and headwear, inspired by the Albert-pattern shako of British fame instituted all the way back in 1844 and seeing service through the Crimean War, this was quickly changed given the Confederacy's dress was of gray. He is wearing the frock coat, the pattern instituted in 1861 which superseded the older pattern brought into service in 1854 - though of course invariably the older patterns would see service as new issue kit dwindled in numbers with the rising number of soldiers and straining of supply chains.

Confederate Soldier
  • Unlike his Federal counterpart, this Confederate infantryman isn't based on any particular regiment, and is instead a mashup of a variety of different pieces of kit - which may help to demonstrate many of the supply shortages the Confederate States faced, especially late into the war. His jacket is in the popular color coined as 'butternut' which originally appears to have started as a term for southerners who, when emigrating from the south, often wore their worn clothes in this shade we know today. This jacket is worn open and he exposes the green home-spun shirt, open jackets are seen to have been used with prevalence during this period. He wears a rolled-up blanket around him which may house much of his everyday needs as well as providing him something to shield himself from foul weather.

As a Texan, I appreciate the butternut uniform for the Confederates :)
