Graying Hair

Description
This feature is still not implemented in vanilla 1.4/1.5/biotech !

_________________________________________________

Graying hair or Greying hair to turn your pawn's hair gray or grey :)

Pawns' hair will start graying out with age. It starts when they are 40 years old and becomes fully white at 60 maximum.

It is super simple and lightweight (and I won't add anything that may change that). It only ticks once at their birthday so no performance drag due to it.

It also won't give away hidden pawns due to anomalies.

Things people asked me:

Q: Compatible with Biotech?
A: Yes! If pawn has the grayless hair gene it will not gray out. It doesn't matter if it is a xenogene or endogene.

Q: Does it affect immortal pawns?
A: I removed compatibility with immortals and celestials [mods] because we now have base game immortality. It still works with those mods, but the ageless gene or immortality does not grant immunity to graying hair, only the grayless hair gene.

Q: How does it work with gradient hair?
A: Didn't test because I don't use it. It probably changes the original hair color and leaves the secondary color gradient untouched.

Q: Can I change the age where hair starts graying?
A: Yes! Now it has some settings.

Q: How are you doing?
A: I got accepted at one university, hoping they will call me in the future :) Now I have to finish my PhD and keep applying to teach at my dream Uni.

Q: Can I add mid-save?
A: Mid-save, pre-save, post-save. You can do anything you want with it and it works darling.

Q: Does it work in reverse with a biosculpter?
A: No. The mod is super super lightweight. Adding that is against it. You can use the styling station to dye their hair.

Q: Does it work with *insert alien race here*?
A: Yes! As long as they are humanoid. It is based on life expectancy, not an actual number like forty.

Q: If I dye their hair, will it stop graying?
A: No. It will turn into the dyed color but continue to gray slowly until it needs to be dyed again.

My PC broke and I have yet to play anomaly. So I have no idea what are non-senescent pawns

thanks for the update!!!

Suggestion: Non-senescent pawns should be immune to graying hair, as if they had the grayless hair gene.

Yes. It shouldn't have any problems code-wise and neither I nor anyone else reported something wrong by removing it. It doesn't save, add, or schedule anything.

safe to remove?

Short answer: No

Long answer:

This mod triggers along with the birthday event. Because of that it is super lightweight.

The chronomancy psycast does not use the vanilla aging method and directly changes the age of the pawn. To make both work together I would need to implement a constant check for the age (huge tps drawback), or directly patch the vanilla psycast. Both solutions are inviable.

Any way to force this when used with Chronomancy psycasts? Would be super sweet deaging your pawn and watching their hair gaining life back while the other drains.
