Mazda Axela Gen.2 (BL Series)

アクセラ（AXELA）は、マツダが製造・販売していた乗用車である。

日本国外向けの車名は当初より「Mazda3」だが、2019年5月24日より日本国内で販売を開始した4代目より、日本国内でも日本国外向けとほぼ同じ（※Mazda部分の大文字の数が異なる）MAZDA3の車名を用いている。本項では、日本で「アクセラ」の車名を用いていた3代目モデルまで記述する。

ここでは、2代目となるBL後期型について説明する。

2008年のロサンゼルス・モーターショーでセダンが、ボローニャモーターショーで5ドアハッチバック（スポーツ）がそれぞれ発表された。開発コンセプトは「再びカスタマーの期待を超える」。日本国内での月間販売目標は「アクセラセダン」と「アクセラスポーツ」、ホットハッチの「マツダスピードアクセラ」の3モデル合わせて2000台と発表された。

フロントフェイスはマツダブランドの個性をより際出せた、構成する全てのラインを五角形グリルの下部中央に向かって集束させる「センターフォーカス」の考え方に基づいた、より躍動感のあるデザインとした。プラットフォームは先代の流用でボディサイズはほぼ同じであるが、足回りは一新された。ヘッドランプはプロジェクター式を採用するが、HID仕様とハロゲン仕様ではデザインが一部異なる。

2.0 L・2WD車にはアイドリングストップシステム「i-stop」を装備。燃焼エネルギーを使うことで通常のアイドリングストップの半分の時間（メーカー発表値で0.35秒）で再始動ができ、停止・始動時の騒音や振動を抑え、違和感のないスムーズな操作ができる。この「i-stop」を装備したことにより、燃費が先代に比べ、約15%向上。1.5 L車もCVTが新たに搭載され、燃費が向上された。

なお日本国外のモデルにおいては1.6 L、2.0 L、2.2 Lディーゼルエンジンに加え、先にアテンザに搭載された2.5 Lエンジンのモデルも存在する。また、i-stopは基本的に日本国内専用装備となっている（マイナーチェンジ後含む）。

The monthly sales target in Japan was announced to be 2000 units including the "Axela Sedan" and "Axela Sport" and the hot hatch "Mazda Speed ​​Axela".

The front face has a more dynamic design based on the concept of "center focus" that emphasizes the individuality of the Mazda brand and focuses all the constituent lines toward the center of the lower part of the pentagonal grille. The platform is a diversion of the previous generation and the body size is almost the same, but the suspension has been redesigned. The headlamp adopts a projector type, but the design is partially different between the HID specification and the halogen specification.

The 2.0 L / 2WD vehicle is equipped with the idling stop system "i-stop". By using combustion energy, it can be restarted in half the time of normal idling stop (0.35 seconds according to the manufacturer's announced value), noise and vibration at the time of stop and start are suppressed, and smooth operation without discomfort is possible. Equipped with this "i-stop", fuel efficiency is improved by about 15% compared to its predecessor. The 1.5-liter model is also equipped with a new CVT, improving fuel efficiency.

Among the models outside Japan, in addition to the 1.6 L, 2.0 L, and 2.2 L diesel engines, there are also models with the 2.5 L engine that was previously installed in Atenza. In addition, i-stop is basically equipment exclusively for Japan (including after minor changes).
