The Bandits
The Bandits are raiders and marauders of the Zone, ranging from petty thugs and gangsters to organized crime syndicates. Apart from Freedom, which treats them with marginal contempt, everyone hates the Bandits due to their nefarious acts of robbing and exploiting honest Stalkers. Most Bandits are unorganized and leaderless; there are only a few known Bandit leaders and camps, and even then their groups are still fairly disorganized, with underlings always trying to take control by overthrowing the previous leader. Their unit size is mediocre, and their equipment is cheap and shoddy; because of this they've adapted to a guerilla style of warfare, ambushing small groups with large numbers by camping in locations just off the normal paths. Equipment
The common Bandit is usually seen wearing a black anorak and track suit pants, as well as a hooded shirt. Some higher rank Bandits are seen wearing long hooded trenchcoats. Bandits tend to be armed with light, worn weapons such as sawn-off shotguns and Viper 5 sub-machine guns. Bandits found in the series have the image of Marijuana emblem on their backpacks and track suit pants, slightly resembling Adidas real-life entry-level track pants
Military
The Ukrainian military supposedly has the Zone contained in order to prevent the looting of dangerous, radioactive materials and to prevent the unauthorized entering of any individuals. They allegedly enforce this rule with a "Shoot-on-sight" declaration. In an ironic twist, because of major corruption within their ranks, they themselves are the reason why Stalkers can continue to operate, and why radioactive materials from the Zone keep flowing to the outside world. Overtly, the Military are hostile to all Stalkers, to keep up appearances; but they also make shady dealings with them at the same time
Equipment
Military stalkers are either former stalkers contracted by the military, or actual active members of the military with extensive experience in the Zone. As such, they are valuable assets in the field, possessing extensive knowledge about artifacts, anomalies, and the Zone itself. For this reason Military Stalkers are given the best equipment that the Military has to offer. They often wear high-end SKAT-9M Military Armored Suits and Sphere-12M Helmets in the FLORA pattern, protective gear suited to combat in highly anomalous areas. Military Stalkers also utilize high-end Soviet weaponry, such as the SA Avalanche and Tunder S14 assault rifles. In addition to high-end firearms they have been known to use expensive F1 Grenades, allowing them to engage enemies at a distance with deadly force.
Freedom
Freedom is a clan of stalkers who fight for free access to the Zone, and their views are somewhat anarchistic, believing nobody can own the Zone and seeing it both as a scientific marvel and as a free life inside the Zone's borders. In contrast to the regimented, highly disciplined atmosphere of Duty, the members of Freedom have a much more relaxed, informal attitude. They appear to have a more casual command structure, often referring to each other as "bro", with a number of members shown making regular recreational use of alcohol and marijuana. This further reflects their status as a clan of like-minded free spirits, unlike the ex-military soldiers of Duty.
Equipment
Members of the Freedom faction are easily recognizable in the Zone, as most of their armours are patterned with either generic European or pseudo-flecktarn camouflage. Their primary color is green, supplemented by orange (Exoskeleton). Freedom primarily wields NATO weaponry, such as the TRs 301, GP37, SGI-5k and others. In Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat members can be found using the AKM-74/2 and AKM-74/2U, and in all three titles faction experts often employ the SVDm-2 and SVUmk-2 sniper rifles.
Loners / Free Stalkers / Neutral Stalkers
Loners are a nomadic semi-unified group of Stalkers who simply live off the Zone in order to earn some coin for their daily lives. Loners are neutral toward almost all other factions, but do have complications with the Military, and, to a lesser extent, the Mercenaries, and openly oppose the Bandit faction for their actions against free Stalkers. Most Loners are only concerned with the riches of the Zone, and do not pay attention to the other factions' hatred for each other - provided, of course, they do not threaten them. Because of this, Loners are often recruited by various factions as mercenaries.
Equipment
Loners use all of the weapons and almost all armours of the Zone.
Duty
Duty was founded by former military expedition survivors and Stalkers concerned about the looming horrors of the Zone. They are one of the largest Stalker clans in the Zone. They have a strict military code (such as no smoking, maintaining one's weapons, etc...) and operate in a military fashion, using ranks like Sergeant, Major, Captain, and General. Their goal is to contain and destroy the Zone, fearing that it will spread to the outside world. They view the Zone as an ulcer in the world and their efforts are a way to excise it. They do this with blunt force by killing mutants, eliminating all who oppose them or exploit the free, and burning down or drowning mutant dens. They are neutral toward other Zone factions, save for the Bandits and their long-time nemesis: the Freedom faction. It is said that Duty also has deep connections within the military, specifically Spetsnaz detachments within the Zone, although they treat regular grunts with utter contempt.
Equipment
Duty is one of the best equipped factions. As former Ukrainian Military operators, they prefer to use Soviet weaponry, which is yet another example of how they oppose Freedom, which prefer NATO weaponry.
Mercenaries
The Mercenaries are a private military force operating within the Zone. They are professional soldiers who will do just about anything in the Zone, ranging from retrieval, assassinations, body-guarding, etc. Though, of course, it must be for the right price. Mercenaries are usually neutral toward other factions, as they are a source of income, unless they interfere with their operations.
Equipment
In terms of equipment, the mercenaries employ a large variety of weapons in the Zone, often customized with scopes or silencers. Most often, they will use NATO weapons, the TRs-301 being the most widely-used of all, although they may sometimes employ Akm-74/2s in rare cases. In terms of armor, they eschew stalker suits in favor of the more combat oriented mercenary suits and exoskeletons. However, there are a few mercenaries that employ a variant of the SEVA suit, distinguishable by the large amount of blue coloring, this variant being only featured in Shadow of Chernobyl.
Ecologists
The Ecologists are Ukrainian scientists sent into the Zone on behalf of the government, but seem to be affiliated with outside organizations. Their main purpose is the study of all aspects of the Zone, using scientific methods to further explain what the Zone is, and its purpose. The Ecologists are neutral to all factions, and are not involved in any of their conflicts. Due to the military's slipping grip on the Zone, the Ecologists rely on opportunistic Dutyers, Loners, and Mercenaries to provide them protection, and to perform errands that may require combat, since the scientists are better thinkers than fighters.
Equipment
The scientists aren't great fighters, as their usual SSP-99 Ecologist Suits don't offer much in terms of protection. Coupled with their weak skills in firearms, they tend to pose little threat to anyone.
Monolith
The Monolith were originally ordinary Stalkers who believed in the power of the Wish Granter. Prior to Clear Sky, the faction reportedly made an exodus to the Zone's center and disappeared. After the large emission during the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, they became active. The Monolith are the front line soldiers of the C-Consciousness, and would rather die than let any Stalker reach the sacred crystal. Although capable of higher reasoning and emotion, they nevertheless carry out orders with fanatic effectiveness. The Monolith faction has no allies, and actively attacks all other factions.
Equipment
Monolith faction is extremely well equipped and have large numbers of individuals compared to the other factions, putting them on level footing with the Clear Sky faction. They use equipment developed by C-Consciousness or those acquired from the obliterated Clear Sky faction. They use self-made armors such as the Monolith suit, the Scientific Monolith suit, along with a variant of the Radiation suit and the ExoskeletonThe Monolith throughout the series makes use of nearly every weapon available. This goes from common weaponry issued to rookies, to uncommon and high-end weaponry including the rare FT-200M that only Mercenaries, Clear Sky, and some Loners have access to. Finally, they produced the deadly Gauss gun and are the only known user (besides the player) of this unique weapon.
Clear Sky
Clear Sky is the most secretive faction within the Zone. The faction was disbanded after losing the majority of their manpower during the events in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky. The Clear Sky faction was originally composed of former researchers of the C-Consciousness who broke away from them in order to conduct their own research on how to either destroy or contain the zone. The other members of the faction were ordinary stalkers who joined their cause for their own reasons . ln S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, the faction is nearly non-existent. Nimble and Novikov are the only known surviving members of Clear Sky.
Equipment
Clear Sky is initially one of the more poorly equipped factions, but once mobilized boasts an arsenal probably second only to the Monolith, sporting heavily upgraded assault rifles complete with scopes and grenade launchers.
Renegades
A group of renegade Stalkers unaffiliated with any major faction, as well as cast-outs from other factions, they act as warbands and gangs instead. Although acting in the same way as Bandits by robbing and exploiting stalkers, the renegades are not under any formal leadership. The Renegade faction eventually dissolved after S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, which is why they are non-existent in Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat
Equipment
At first, in the Great Swamp, renegades are armed with relatively light weaponry much to the reminiscence of Bandits in Shadow of Chernobyl. Later in the Red Forest, however, they are seen with much more advanced weaponry including 9x39mm SA Avalanche rifles wielded by the trenchcoat-wearing renegades and AKM-74/2s loaded with armor-piercing ammo wielded by the mercenary suit-wearing renegades.
last Day
Final Day is a mentioned-only faction in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.
International Scientific Group (ISG)
International Scientific Group is a special unit operating under the auspices of the United Nations. They were supposed to appear in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

Equipment
The group's Suits are reskinned variants of the Monolith suit and Scientific Monolith suit
Sin
Sin is an extremely hostile cult that was intended to appear in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. They are hostile especially to the scientists, since they're competitors in searching the Zone for documents.
Equipment
Members universally wear Trenchcoats.
A wide variety of low to middle order firearms.
Strangers
The Strangers are an unknown and unused Faction in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, and is neutral to most other factions and Stalkers. Their part in the game is unknown as they do not appear in any Builds or subsequent games.
Equipment
Members are able to morph into Mutants at which point their stance changes to one of hostility towards the player.
