Story Campaign: "The War That Never Ended"
By MrBrick
I love this community and wanted to give something fun for y’all to enjoy. You’ll use Instant Action to do these story missions. I’ve personally completed each mission TWICE to make sure the campaign is challenging but possible. Massive thanks to all the creative modders that made this campaign possible. :)

OCTOBER UPDATE: I've added more weapons and vehicle variety so you'll have more options for your unique play style and tactics to take on the enemy. Go get em' Spartans!

DISCLAIMER: Most mods listed below work with the current EA26 version of the game, but if they don't work you can play them in Beta Branch. Be sure to go to “Vehicle Switch” in Instant Action and enable or select the vehicles listed below. Saving as a configuration might help. I DID NOT make ANY of the mods or maps used in the campaign, have credited their creators, and simply made a fun storyline and rules that tie in the mods all together. If you are a modder and I did not properly credit you for a mod or you have a question or comment feel free to message me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. ALL of the storyline, missions, & characters are original and created by yours truly [Mr. Brick].

The Clouds of War: An Introduction
The War that Never Ended

A custom campaign by Mr. Brick

PREFACE

July 13th, 2047:

(Song: Beautiful Death - The Grey of Horizons Lost)

My name is Private Roy McArthur, member of the Blue Python Platoon for the Valtan Army. Never really got into this “journaling” stuff before but thought it would be a nice way to pass my time in the barracks in Fort Braddox. I have a feeling we won’t be sitting comfy in these barracks much longer though, things have been getting heated up between Valta (Vault-uh) and the neighboring country across the sea, Naskoshia (Nuh-sko-sha). Not only has there been an increasing scarcity of resources, but both sides, along with our allied countries, have been rapidly growing their military forces, feeding further into the rising tensions.

The news says Naskoshia recently accused Valta of attempting to assassinate one of their public officials, but Valta’s ties to the assassination plot have been unconfirmed. Meanwhile the big wigs at Valta’s capital have been pissed about Naskoshia breaking multiple policies and peace treaties to forcefully take over neighboring regions and countries for oil. The list of reasons for war go on and on, and although neither side has attacked yet, everyone feels the Clouds of War looming in the distance. Everyone has their reasons for joining the army, some nobler than others. But me? Hell I guess I’m still trying to find that reason.

When I joined the army I passed basic training and became a Rifleman in the Spartan Squadron. Being the new guy on the team the other guys have given me a lot of sh!t for it, but my squad leader Maverick has been lookin out for me, and I can tell I’ve got a good crew on my side. Everybody’s got their cool little nicknames: Castle, Viking, Longshot, Rattler, Maverick. I can’t wait to get mine, but for now everyone in the squad just calls me Rookie. Just hope I don’t make a fool out of myself and get an embarrassing nickname like Trips did.

This morning Second Lieutenant Greene brought the platoon together and sat us all down for a briefing, word is there are orders to be ready to mobilize towards the Valtic Islands. Apparently there’s been a massive buildup of naval fleets near the island due to enemy activity just beyond the border, and our leaders don’t want to wait or take any chances losing the islands. We are to meet up with the 272nd Battalion and board the SS Kingsman of the Wardog Fleet. I’d be lyin’ if I said I wasn’t nervous, but the confidence of my squadron gives me ease. One thing’s for sure though: War is coming.

BATTLE OF THE VALTIC ISLANDS
“BATTLE OF THE VALTIC ISLANDS”

July 17th, 2047:

Well, I was right, war was coming, and here I was at its front door. We met up with the 272nd Battalion and all of the big names were there, most notably the leader General Savage. That’s a helluva last name and was pretty fitting given his cold, ruthless demeanor. The Naskoshians opened up the gates of Hell and shot the first bullet, enemy aircraft was launching into the air and Naskoshian battleships rang our ears with the sounds of missile fire and cannons. Being onboard the Aircraft Carrier SS Kingsman, It was unreal to see the incoming shells fired from the enemy fleet.

The first round of volleys missed our ship, and the Captain of the carrier wailed sirens and ordered all personnel to their stations while the infantry (AKA us) were sent to return to our cabins. There wasn’t much we could personally do but hope for the carrier and our fleet to come out on top. Returning was the safe thing to do, but I wanted to watch the fight so badly. I found a discreet place on the surface of the aircraft carrier to watch the battle and see the planes take off, and watch the ships turn the beautiful wide open ocean into a warzone. Was it incredibly stupid? Absolutely. My squadmates and commanding officer gave me hell for not following orders, including a nice smack across the face from Castle, that smug bastard. But Maverick was able to smooth things over, didn’t even get so much as a write up thanks to him. I was amazed. He has a way with words that even the higher ups will listen to, but even he was angered by my actions, and rightfully so. I am on latrine duty as punishment for the remainder of our time on the Kingsman though, not looking forward to any of that. I promised them nothing like this would ever happen again, but I’m glad I took my chance to see the fight. I had never seen war upfront like this, so intense yet so exciting.

As I looked above I watched friendly aircraft take to the skies and roar past me and the fleet. One particular aircraft caught my eye, with a lightning bolt and the callsign “Thunder” on its tail. It was Hank Evans, a pilot I talked to a day before the fight broke out. He was calm, cool, but crazy smart. I watched him and his squadron go to work, and man… they were the highlight of the entire fight. Honestly I think they’re the main reason we won that battle. I watched him and his squad shoot down enemy planes and sink cruisers and battleships with incredible skill. Shortly after the battle was over our fleet mobilized and we were given orders to launch a counter attack on the enemies’ island region Milahgo. Ya know, I never got to thank that ace pilot Evans for all he did during that fight and kickin Naskoshia to the curb. Looks like I owe him a drink next time we meet.

THE SIEGE OF MILAHGO
“THE SIEGE OF MILAHGO”

July 24th, 2047:

It was a long journey to the Island of Milahgo, harsh weather conditions delayed us and did not make it an easy trip. Needless to say, the Naskoshians were ready for us when the island was in sight. A large lighthouse could be seen directing artillery fire onto the ships, and AA guns along the coast stalled our air support. The Kingsman and other key ships stayed out of reach from the artillery but were quickly caught off guard by enemy ships flanking us. We were surrounded. Lieutenant Greene ordered us to hop into the gunboats, storm the island, and take out enemy artillery while the ships defended against the flank. I hopped onto a boat with the Spartan Squad and my heart raced. Incoming gunfire and friendly ships getting blown up left and right made it feel reminiscent of a D-Day scenario. It was a rough landing but the Spartans made it. When we landed we weren’t just fighting enemy military, we were fighting civilians... Armed civilians took to the streets and shot at us. Rattler saved me from getting killed and told me, “If they’ve got a gun, they aren’t civvies anymore Rookie, now get moving!” I had mixed feelings; they were just defending their home, but we had orders to follow and our lives were on the line... I guess morals could wait. Right now, I needed to survive, and it was us or them...

THE AFTERMATH & OPERATION DUAL SWORD
“THE AFTERMATH & OPERATION DUAL SWORD”

July 26th, 2047:

(Song: Beautiful Death - The Wind Sings of Loneliness)

The initial siege was a success, and we were able to stall the artillery fire so our ships could advance. It was a wave of relief once we started seeing friendly planes fly over us and allied ships moving in. I saw my buddy Evans flying closely over the coastline and waved to him. I swear I saw him wave back but I guess I’ll never know, haha. The planes went on to advance further ahead while the navy and soldiers handled control of the island. The civilians put up a strong fight and the siege lasted nearly two days until the few remaining fighters surrendered. Our squad patrolled the region later on and took in the aftermath. Civilians yelling at us and weeping over the destruction of their home and the loss of their loved ones. Disfigured, bullet ridden bodies of both soldiers and everyday people littered the streets and almost made me hurl. Castle and the others were more seasoned veterans and didn’t care much, but even ones like Viking and Maverick were stunned by what they had seen. Later that night when we were resting at our camp I sat by the fire with Viking, he told me how he had a wife and two kids back home, and although he was glad to be alive he wasn’t proud of what we had done. “Because what if that was my family fighting for their life?” Viking asked solemnly. I looked silently at the fire, unable to give him an answer but understanding his point. “There’s no good guys on either side of this war Rookie, just casualties, catastrophe, greed, and people fightin’ to survive.” Never knew the Valtan giant had such a soft spot. In the meantime, we’ve been told to maintain authority over Milahgo and defend it until further notice.

August 12th, 2047:

We held off a few retaliating Naskoshian forces over the weeks, and now it’s finally time to move. According to Lt. Greene our Air Force has battered enemy defenses thanks to us taking out the AA guns in Milahgo, and now it’s time to regroup with the Wardog Fleet and the 272nd Battalion to launch a full scale assault on Fort Tekempo, a massive fortress and one of the Chief Command Centers of the Naskoshian Navy. If we succeed, it will cripple Naskoshia’s Navy and their dominance over the water, allowing us to move further into the mainland of Naskoshia. “This mission here is the stepping stone to something greater!” Said Lt. Greene. “Winning this battle will be a major turning point in the war for us, so let’s make our country proud. Glory to Valta!!!” “Haaah Ouu!” We roared back in salute. We will be coordinating our efforts with the Bravo Company, which will be taking direct orders from General Savage himself. It is said the Red Bandits Heli team will be dropping us in hot alongside Reapers Squadron, a fellow squad in the Blue Python Platoon, take the LZ, and take control of the enemy airfield. The other two squads, Viper and Hawk, will focus on taking out enemy forces on the docks. Once we have control of the airfield and the docks, we can pin them in at their fortress and defeat them. This fight is gonna go down in history, I’ve just gotta make sure the books say we won today. If we win, I’ll add another journal entry and talk all about it. If not, well then you can guess what happened.

VICTORY STREAK
“VICTORY STREAK”

August 19th, 2047:

We did it! We won!! I can’t believe it. The enemy’s Navy was severely crippled by our takeover, and for now we have superiority over the sea. We were all glad about the monumental victory, but sadly there wasn’t much time to celebrate. You’d think after winning a gigantic fight like that I’d get a badass nickname but no, I’m still goin by Rookie. Getting annoyed not having a cool callsign and how the crew has been pickin on me but we made it through the fight, so I’m grateful. “Hey Rookie,” Maverick nudged me, “There’s someone you’ve gotta meet.” It was none other than General Savage himself. “Greetings Private McArthur.” said Savage. “I heard your team was a key player in taking down that airfield and assaulting Tekempo. Impressive work.” He was smiling, he still had that cold, dead glare in his eyes but he seemed genuine. “We need more quick-thinking troopers with good aim like your team. I've talked to your commanding officer Greene and have personally requested Spartan Squadron to spearhead a covert operation for me, think you’re up for the task?” My face lit up! I couldn’t believe such a high ranking officer noticed us, and now HE wants us to do a special operation for him! “It would be an honor, sir.” “Excellent," he said shaking my hand, "you didn't have much of a choice anyway. The chopper is ready, you’ll need to leave soon. I’ll have you briefed along the way.” Apparently this was a 4-Man operation and Maverick was picking who to take, and he chose me of all people, along with Longshot and Castle. Viking, Rattler, and Trips would handle the extraction and getting us out once the job was done. The plan was to stage a surprise attack on a small Naskoshia convoy carrying valuable intel, they didn’t tell us what the intel was for though. We would be dropped behind enemy lines via stealth chopper to intercept the convoy. This was my chance to show my commanders what I’ve got, and prove to General Savage and my squad that I’m a force to be reckoned with.

Operation: SHADOW STORM
“Operation Shadow Storm”

August 20th, 2047:

After retrieving the intel and successfully returning it to General Savage, it turned out the Naskoshians were working on some type of Superweapon nicknamed “TITAN STOMP”. The intel was still super encrypted and didn’t specify where the weapon was being made, but it did point us to the direction of a remote chemicals production lab based in the ruins of Jinkari Temple in Saava; an icy, mountainous region deep into Naskoshian territory. Going after the lab was incredibly dangerous given the limited intel, and a huge risk going so far into enemy territory, but if the enemy has a weapon of mass destruction in the works, then stopping them is worth the risk. The General saw to it that I got promoted to a Specialist, I’ve been moving up the ranks since I’ve started running operations for General Savage. And yet somehow, the squad still sticks to calling me Rookie. I think they picked up on how much it annoys me. Hah, well rookie or not, I know I’m a good soldier and a good shot, and they’ll come to respect my skill soon enough. I’m more than just the “new guy”.

We were quickly sent to recon the Jinkari Temple and search for intel on the “TITAN STOMP” Superweapon. The weather was terrible, but Viking and Rattler managed to get us close enough to drop near the temple, while Trips covered our backs manning the minigun. As they flew off they nearly smashed into a mountain. I don’t blame em, visibility was poor up here. Luckily, the blizzard would work in our favour, at least on the ground. We’ll move… in the shadows of the storm.

SPARTAN DOWN
“SPARTAN DOWN”

August 20th, 2047:

It felt nice to get back into the warm hull of the helicopter, but the comfort was temporary. “Christ, I can barely see a thing out here!” Viking yelled. The storm only got worse after we left, we were dangerously flying blind with little to no visibility. Meanwhile Longshot was analyzing the chemical sample and deciphering some of the plans we had snatched from the Temple. The liquid in the vial looked like a red, blackish sludge. His focus and curiosity turned into a sheer look of horror as he said, “Oh God…” “LOOK OUT!” Viking yelled as the heli swerved hard and everyone fell over inside the cabin, we barely avoided crashing into another mountain. Just then we heard our radar go off, something had a missile lock on us. Viking deployed the flares but they were too late with no luck, we got rocked by the missile and sent spinning out of control in the storm. Maverick, trying to keep his nerves, said “Hang on everyone!” as we spun faster and further out of control. Just before we hit the mountain side everything went black. I woke up to a burnt, damaged helicopter, and muffled gunfire. I looked up to the pilot's seat to see Viking was gone and Rattler was impaled in his chest by the debris, completely lifeless. I was in pure shock. To my left was Longshot, the sample and intel was still intact in his hands but he was knocked out cold and bleeding from his head. Viking said, “Come on! We have to get moving! Can you stand?” “Yes.” I answered with my ears ringing. “Good,” he dragged me to my feet and tossed me my rifle, “Then you can fight. Cover me while I get Longshot!” Maverick and Trips were standing watch, Castle was limping and winced in pain but still stood tall and was ready to shoot. “You still with me kid?” Maverick asked me. “Yes sir.” Viking got Longshot out of the wreckage and carried him over his shoulders. “We’ve got to move!” said Castle. We ran through the blinding storm and lost our attackers, and eventually we reached a cave. Maverick managed to get a fire going and laid Longshot close to the fire. All huddled near it to stay warm. What did Longshot see in that intel that got him riled up? I hope he lives to tell us.

August 23rd, 2047:

We’ve been lost in the wilderness of Saava for three days with no luck contacting General Savage or anyone else for help. We can’t keep this up, we have to find a way out and we have to get this intel to General Savage. I hate how cold it is here, worst of all I’m the main one that’s sent to scout for food, wood, and enemy patrols, just to come back covered in ice and snow. On my way back one day Castle said, “Hey look, it’s Jack Frost.” which turned into them just calling me Frost. Didn’t think I’d get my nickname from being on the brink of hypothermia but aye, I’ll take it. Maverick still calls me Rookie but I don’t mind it, he’s like a big brother to me. The storm cleared up some more this morning but we still can’t get a signal. While I was scouting I spotted a small outpost with a radio tower a few kilometers away, with an empty armored truck even closer to us. Trips said if he can patch into the radio tower, he can find a way to encrypt the distress signal so only our allies can get it. Using the enemy's radio towers to send a distress signal is incredibly dangerous, but it’s our only hope. Longshot is thankfully alive, but he has been in and out of consciousness the last few days and certainly is not fit to fight. We’re gonna keep Longshot safe, hijack the armored car, and get to that radio tower. I’m not dying behind enemy lines. We’re gonna make it out of here.

“BLACKSITE MESA 1”

August 25th, 2047:

It was a rough drive but we made it, gotta thank Castle for manning the gun and protecting us on the ride to the radio station and Viking for saving us from the wreck. Once we got to the station Trips worked his magic and within an hour we heard the whirl of a rescue chopper, our boys in blue waving down at us, all of us equally excited to see each other. Apparently there were covert search parties looking for us and our distress signal reached the chopper at the perfect time. We hopped into the chopper and flew off, it was a long ride back to Fort Tekempo, once the enemy’s chief naval command center and now General Savage’s new base of operations. On the ride back to Tekempo I thought of Rattler's death, the image burned into my mind. The squad was definitely sad we had to leave his body behind enemy lines, we felt the pain of the loss but no tears were shed. I wasn't close to Rattler, didn't like him much either, but he was a Spartan nonetheless, and I will always remember him and hope he's in a better place. “Boys! You made it back.” General Savage’s look of happiness turned into confusion. “You look like you’re down a person, where’s Rattler?” We stared in silence, and the General nodded back to us, “I understand. Do you have the intel?” “Yes, sir.” I said as I handed him the data and the chem sample. “Longshot saw something in the data that scared the crap outta him, we don’t know what it was though. Is he gonna be alright?” I asked. General Savage calmly responded, “He’s in Intensive Care with the best medics we have to offer, he’s gonna be fine.” The Spartan Squad sighed in relief, we didn’t want to bear the death of two of our own, losing one was bad enough. “We’re glad to have you back home,” said the General. “Give us a day to decipher the rest of this data and analyze the chemical compound. Rest up, you’ve earned it.”

I spent most of the time sitting by Longshot, who was asleep on the hospital bed. “You doin alright, kid?” Maverick patted me on the shoulder as he walked into the room. Distraught, I said, “Yeah, I just… we lost Rattler back there. And I’m glad Longshot is okay but I’m worried about what was on that data drive we found. If it was enough to scare Longshot then-” “We can worry about that tomorrow.” Maverick cut me off. “For now, we need to be together for Longshot. The Spartans are brothers, and brothers look out for each other above everything else.” I smiled, “Alright. Thanks Maverick.” He patted me on the shoulder, “You’re a good kid, Rookie. Did a hell of a job back there in Saava too, we’re glad to call you a Spartan.”

The next day we were urgently called into the War Briefing Room by General Savage. “This is bad, boys. From what we read in the encrypted data ‘TITAN STOMP’ is a new type of weapon like we’ve never seen before, said to have “Earth shattering” technology. We don’t know what they mean by that, and we still don’t fully understand the weapons capabilities, but we have learned that it uses a new genetically mutated form of a neurotoxin developed exclusively by Naskoshia. Our scientists are still studying the lab sample you got from Saava to see its effects and capabilities. The data reveals that the Titan weapon development is being done primarily at a High-Security Blacksite known as ‘Mesa 1’, located in Saava. It appears they are also mass producing the neurotoxin there too. I don’t think I need to further explain how dire the situation is, but we need to stop them before they complete their work on that weapon. Spartan Squad I’m reuniting you with your Lt. Greene and the Blue Python Platoon to work in a joint task operation to seize the blacksite immediately. Longshot is recovering quickly but he is gonna be outta commission on this operation. I’ve directed the Red Bandit Heli Team to drop you soldiers in and to provide air support. You’re leaving in 0600 hours, Let’s move!” Neurotoxins? Earth shattering technology? So Titan Stomp is as bad as it sounds… Much as I hate getting deployed back into Saava, the fate of Valta, the War, and possibly humanity is on the line here. I’m boarding Red Bandit 1's heli in a few minutes, it’s go time.

RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK
“RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK”

August 26th, 2047:

We lost Viper Squadron and Red Bandit 2, but the overall mission was a success, at least we thought so. After we seized the blacksite I learned from their data logs that they weren’t researching the weapon anymore… because it was already complete. They already produced the TITAN STOMP bomb and it showed one of them was being loaded onto something they called the “Sky Turtle”. “The Sky Turtle?!” Trips said shocked. Maverick was stunned, “I thought that thing was a myth. That thing is a beast in the skies and a literal flying fortress. If they get the Titan Stomp loaded onto that thing we’re doomed.” “Then we need to stop them here and now!” I said. Viking, Castle, Trips, and Maverick nodded in agreement. I got the news to Lt. Greene and told them that we needed to move quickly to the enemy airbase in the Era-Vio Mountain Pass to stop the Sky Turtle and the Titan Bomb. With urgency, we boarded the helis and went on to attack the airbase. The Sky Turtle was nearly ready to launch! Its defenses were tearing our helis apart. Before we knew it there were too many enemy birds scrambled and AA Guns causing us problems in the air and on the ground. I heard a voice over the comms “Heard you needed someone to save your ass again McArthur. Ha!” It was Evans! “Evans, you crazy bastard!” Evans responded, “You just focus on staying alive and handling things on the ground, we’ll take care of the rest.” I felt some relief parachuting down and watching Evans’ plane fly by. It would be up to my buddy Evans and his squad of ace pilots to clear the skies and protect us while we fought on the ground.

THE SKY TURTLE
“THE SKY TURTLE”

August 26th, 2047 (Continued):

Once the dust settled the Sky Turtle started to take off at a startling speed. It was impressive yet terrifying to see how quickly such a large airship was moving. Evans moved to intercept it, but the Sky Turtle aimed one of its shell canons at him and fired. “Aggghh!! Mayday, mayday, I’m hit!” Evans screamed over the radio. They clipped one of his wings and his plane went spiraling out of control before slamming into the mountain. “Evans, no!” I screamed. "Did you see him eject? I didn't see him eject!!!" I frantically asked the group. I never got to buy him that drink… My fear and sadness quickly changed to pure rage. “I don’t care what happens, we’re gonna destroy that damn thing.” “But how?!” Viking asked, “Their AA defenses are ripping us to shreds, we’re losing too many people.” I got on the radio and said, “All friendly units, approach the Sky Turtle and get prepared to board! Bandit 1, Get us in there.” “Are you crazy! It’s a suicide mission!” “Just bear with me here!” I said as I started grabbing packs of detonators, explosives, and parachutes, and giving them to the team. Bandit 1 said, “If we live through this you owe me big time.” Bandit 1 flew like a maniac, dodging AA fire and missiles left and right. As we approached the tail end of the airship I noticed there I was wrong about where we could enter it. “There’s no entry point!” I yelled. Bandit 1 launched a missile and blew a hole open into the Sky Turtle. “Now there is!” Bandit 1 yelled. “Rookie… what the hell are we doing here?!” Maverick yelled. “JUMP!” Me and the other Spartans leaped onto the tail of the Sky Turtle and made our way through the blown up entrance Bandit made for us. Castle looked pissed, “You better have a damn good reason for why we’re ON THIS THING!” I quickly broke down my plan, “We’re gonna take this thing down from the inside. Plant explosives on their main engines and key points in the hull. Once they’re set we bail out with our parachutes and have Bandit 1 pick us up after. Maverick was stunned, “This is insane, but it seems like this is our only chance to stop them. Lock and load then Spartans, let’s move!”

THE HEROES OF VALTA & REBELLION
“THE HEROES OF VALTA”

August 26th, 2047 (Continued):
“Run for it!” Trips yelled as we sprinted towards the edge of the Sky Turtle. We all jumped for it and looked behind us to watch the fireworks. Boom! Explosions left and right tore the Sky Turtle apart from the inside, and the mythical sky fortress our enemies boasted about was finally brought down. Soon we saw a red electrical charge surge over the Sky Turtle, followed by a massive electrical explosion and a red cloudy mist. That must’ve been the Titan Stomp detonating in the airship. Glad we stopped them before they could use that on anyone else. We pulled our parachutes and watched as the Sky Turtle crashed and sank into the ocean below us. Cheers and celebrations could be heard over the intercoms. “You did it!” Bandit 1 yelled over the radio, “You crazy sons of b!tches did it!”

Maverick started laughing his ass off and all the Spartans started to laugh and smile too. “What a rush! I can’t believe we just did that. That sh!t was straight out of a movie!” said Maverick. “Well played kid, we just saved a lot of people thanks to you.” “Nice work, Frost.” Castle said, finally I was getting some respect from him. We all cheered on and waited in the waters until Bandit 1 swooped back around and picked us up. We returned to the base to roaring applause from other soldiers and a relieved & very happy commander. “Boys, that was one hell of a job.” General Savage said with a proud smile on his face. “You truly deserve to be named Spartans.” General Savage raised my hand in the air, “Three cheers for the heroes of Valta!!!”

The rest of the evening was spent with music, good food, and drinks all around. I still felt the sting of losing Evans seeing that extra shot of tequila sit at the bar, but I knew he was still flying high and watching us from the skies, so I raised my glass to him. The squad finally got to loosen up for the first time in what felt like ages. Longshot made a surprise appearance to the celebration looking better than ever. “Heard you’ve been making moves, Rookie. Thanks for kicking ass and saving our lives.” he said in a smug but happy tone. I hugged Longshot and told him, “The intel and sample you decoded led to us saving thousands of lives. You’re the one we should be thanking.” General Savage gave us some brief time off of operations and put us on standby so we could take some time to recuperate. Things are looking up for Valta and Spartan Squadron. Glory to Valta.

“REBELLION”

September 1st, 2047:

General Savage reactivated us and put us back in action. Not gonna lie, sitting around at the base and not being on the battlefield got me a little ancy. It was nice to rest and spend some quality time with the group though. Viking got to call his family, Longshot spent time catching up with Maverick and Trips, and Castle and I can finally tolerate each other a bit. General Savage called us into the War Room, all of us pumped for our next mission. “Gentleman we’ve been making waves in the war against Naskoshia, however we’ve run into a few setbacks. I’ve gotten word that a key city we captured on the Eastern Front has started a rebellion in an attempt to take back the region and re-unite with enemy forces. Reports and S.O.S. signals have indicated that our allies are on their last legs and in dire need of support. If the rebels are able to take back the city and have Naskoshian forces move back in, it’ll be a hell of a loss for us and turn the tides of the war. We’re sending you in alongside Bandit 1 and a few platoons to quell this rebellion and assist the remaining troops. Stop these rebels and take back control of the town. I have high faith in you Spartans, don’t let me down.” Longshot was back with us and I was riding high, we had the full force of the Spartan Squadron back again and it felt good.

As we boarded the helicopter I could see Viking was angry. “What’s wrong man?” I asked. Viking looked up to the clouds, “I already slaughtered one town full of civilians defending their home, I won’t do it again. I refuse!” I slapped him on the arm, “Viking, get ahold of yourself man! They’re not civvies anymore man. They’re fighters and we’ve got to stop them.” He scoffed, “Hah, you sound just like Rattler. Maybe the cold in Saava got to your heart, Frost… I don’t care what General Savage or anyone has to say. I’m not fighting them.” “That’s a direct order!” “I am NOT. FIGHTING. THEM.” Viking looked down on me, puffing his chest, his eyes red with fury. “Fine,” I shook my head, “You want to be a coward and not do your job then stay with Bandit 1, I’ll tell the guys you’ll give us air support.” Viking shook his head in disgust as he walked off and boarded the chopper. As we made our way inland to the city the sound of mortar shells and gunfire got louder. By the time we arrived the fight was in full motion. The cabin light turned green and Bandit 1 yelled, “Go, go!” The ropes dropped, we rappelled down, and met up with the remaining forces that sent the distress signal. “The Spartans! Thank God you’re here. We just might have a chance after all.” Said one of the Sergeants. “What’s the game plan?” Maverick asked. “They’ve pushed all allies out of the main city. They’ve got a chokepoint on us on the bridge and pinned us down on the other side of the water. We need to retaliate and push them back!” Maverick nodded firmly, “Got it. Spartans we’ve got to take back that bridge and get this city under control! Rookie, Trips, you two take a boat with Serge’s troops and land on the other side of the bridge and flank em. Castle, Longshot you two are with me pushing head on from the bridge so the tanks can roll in. We’ll rendezvous at the other end of the bridge and go point to point to take back the city, let’s go Spartans!”

A VIKING’S WRATH & THE LIBERATION OF FORT BRAZKA
“A VIKING’S WRATH”

September 1st, 2047 (continued):

The rebellious voice of the enemy town has been silenced. Maverick and the others congratulated each other on a job well done. After the battle ended Bandit 1 landed on the ground and Viking stepped out of the chopper with no hesitation. His anger only seemed to have gotten more intense, and it felt like the ground shook the closer we stomped his way towards me. Viking socked me square in the jaw and knocked me onto the ground, Trips’ jaw dropped while Maverick and Castle held Viking back. “MURDERERS!” Viking yelled. “You murderers slaughtered dozens of innocent people! Those weren’t soldiers, they were sons! Daughters! Mothers and fathers! How COULD YOU?!” “Get a hold of yourself Viking. What’s done is done, come on now.” Castle calmly tried to talk some sense into him. Viking yanked himself off of them and slowly walked over to me and I looked up to him. He pointed and said, “We are supposed to be soldiers with honor, not monsters! You are better than this, all of you! We didn’t need bloodshed! We-” Viking broke off and walked back to the chopper. He damn near broke my jaw with that hit, I was surprised I was even awake after getting hit by that power house. After the battle ended General Savage ordered us to stay in the town and assist our allied soldiers in keeping control of the city until further notice. Ever since then Viking’s been cold and distant to most of the group, with the exception of speaking to Maverick, who seems to be the only one that can get through to Viking. He spends most of his time at the docks now, looking towards home.

September 5th, 2047:

We’ve gotten word from General Savage that it’s time to move again. Spending the week staying in the town and keeping the locals in check got tiring anyways. Viking still remains a stone wall to most of us, but listens to his orders from Maverick. We got on the radio with the General and were told what our next mission was. General Savage said, “Now that we have the Eastern Front back under control, we can start pushing further into the mainland of Naskoshia. Our main goal is to push in and take their country’s capital, Faretown. But before we can do that there is two things that stands in our way: Fort Brazka and Airbase Nakasa. Fort Brazka is a key stronghold and headquarters for the operations of the Naskoshian military. We will be launching one of the largest attacks on Naskoshia since the Battle for Tekempo, and if- no… when we take this base there will be nothing in the way between us and attacking the capital. Spartans I’ll be deploying you with your old friends in the Blue Python Platoon, I know Lt. Greene is eager to see you again. Bandit 1 will be flying with you and providing close air support to you and the ground troops. It will take us a few days to coordinate and mobilize the whole army, so we won’t be attacking immediately but I do want you prepared. Fort Brazka is heavily defended and this won’t be an easy fight, but I’m certain the Spartans will help lead us to victory.” We headed back to Fort Tekempo to get back with the whole group.

September 9th, 2047:

“This is it ladies and gentleman,” said the General. “We have come so far in this war and today’s battle will not only be a test of our Valtan might, but also a turning point for all of us. I have the utmost faith in each and every one of you in your capabilities for this battle today. Let us win and protect one another, not only so we can end this infernal war, but so that we can all return to our families and loved ones in a better, safer world. Glory to Valta!” “Haaa Ouuu!” We chanted. “Valtan’s… attack!” Our ground troops hit the battlefield running. Bandit came over the radio and said, “This is Bandit 1 in the air, ready to kick some ass and provide support. Their air defenses are tight though and they’ve got jets on standby. I’ll keep the enemy birds busy but I need you to take out the enemy AA defenses on the ground for me. “Copy that.” said Maverick. “You heard the man, let’s show these Naskoshian troops why you don’t mess with the Spartans of Valta.” I nodded, and we moved out. Unlike our typical formation, Viking led from the front of the group instead of Maverick, in fact Viking insisted on it. Tanks and trucks rolled by us as Bandit’s attack chopper whirled past us. I could hear the booming sound of thunder in the distance as the breeze picked up. A storm was rolling in, something felt off. But I had no time to be nervous. Now was the time to be the warrior that my fellow soldiers and squadmates needed. To be a Spartan.

VALHALLA
“VALHALLA”

September 9th, 2047 (Continued):

Halfway through the fight I heard an explosion. “Aghhh! I’m hit! This is Bandit 1, I’m hit, I’m going down!” I watched as Bandit’s helicopter spun out of control and crashed into Fort Brazka’s Control Tower. “No!” “Bandit!” we all looked in shock. To our surprise, we heard Bandit 1 over the radio again “I’m alive, but I’m banged up real bad. I can’t get outta my damn chopper, I… I need assistance. Please! My bird’s catchin on fire!” I turned to Maverick, “We have to go save him!” “It’s no use! We’re under heavy fire and got enough on our hands at the frontlines. We need to maintain position.” Viking stepped up, “Frost, let’s go. We can save him.” It was the first time he’d talked to me since the incident, and I couldn’t agree more with him. “Cover us!” Viking yelled, and we ran through the open fight making our way to the control tower. Maverick yelled back to me, “Rookie! Roookiieee! Dammit- come on guys, let's go!” Soon the whole squad was running, shooting, and making our way to the tower.

We fought our way through, and once we reached the top we saw Bandit 1 knocked out in the cockpit with a fire spreading. Viking grabbed a metal pipe, broke through the glass with sheer force, and dragged Bandit 1 out, who was slightly burned and battered up. As he turned back to us a gunshot went off and went through Viking’s stomach, he dropped to one knee and looked to the ground as he wheezed. “VIKING!!” We all yelled. We were too foolish and so caught up saving Bandit we didn’t watch our backs. Enemy forces pushed up the catwalk and entrapped us in the control tower room. Viking got back on his feet, sat Bandit down, and shot and killed the guy who shot him. Missile fire rattled the place and we felt the ground shake. Trips yelled, “This place is gonna collapse, we’ve got to move!” I looked behind us and saw an emergency exit, but it was in the sight of the enemies on the catwalk. “That’s our way out!” I yelled. Viking said, “Then let’s go! I will cover you.” “Move, move!” Castle screamed. Maverick and Trips carried Bandit while Castle, Longshot, Viking, and I watched their backs and moved towards the staircase. As we made our way Viking covered our backs, then as I looked to check on Bandit I heard *clank! shunk* Viking had closed the door to the exit and blocked it off, looking at me smiling on the other side of the door. “Viking, NO! What the hell are you-” I desperately tried to open the door but it wouldn’t budge. Viking coughed up blood smiling before he said, “There are too many of them brother, but I will hold the line. I’m done here, Frost. Just go. Today, I enter the gates of Valhalla.” Then he dodged a bullet, turned around, and charged head first into the enemy. “Aggghhhh!” He let out his battle cry. “Viking, nooo!” Maverick called to him. “There’s no time!” Castle said as he yanked on my arm rushing me towards the staircase. Longshot called out, “This place is gonna come down any second and the door is jammed! We’ve got to move or we’re all dead!” Maverick and Trips continued to carry Bandit out while Castle covered their front and Longshot and I covered the back. I could still hear Viking giving them hell and fighting with them in the tower. Eventually we all got out and away from the tower but the fight was still roaring out here. Viking briefly called back on the radio sounding exhausted. “Tell… tell my family-” Before he could finish the tower crumbled as one last missile hit it right before our very eyes. “VIKING!!!!” the whole team collectively yelled. Maverick, in denial, got back on the radio. “Viking do you copy?” Silence. “Viking you are NOT dying on us here you son of a b1tch! Vik-” Castle put his hand on Maverick’s shoulder, “It’s over Mav, he’s gone.” he said remorsefully. Shortly after everyone saw the tower collapse the remaining enemy forces surrendered or retreated, and Valtan soldiers let out a cheer of victory. My team silently stared at the rubble of the tower though, we had nothing to celebrate. Bandit had woken up, “Ugh, my head. What ha- oh… oh God.” Trips got teary eyed as he said, “He… he was the strongest of all of us.” Maverick said, “He was… And we ain’t leaving without him.” The crew sadly looked at each other then nodded. We all walked over to the tower and picked through the rubble until we found Viking’s body. Once we did, we picked him up and gently laid him on the ground, as I looked around I noticed dozens of Valtan soldiers gathered around us in curiosity and sadness. We went to pick him up altogether and Bandit stepped up and assisted. He said, “That big guy carried me out to save my life, it’s only fitting I return the favor for him.” The six of us carried him altogether on our shoulders, and the groups of soldiers split in two and gave us a path outside the fortress, they followed behind us as we carefully placed his body on a transport chopper, hopped in, and flew back to base. It was a quiet ride back home.
THE FUNERAL
"Tears of the Angels"

September 15th, 2047:

(Halo Odyssey - Thunder and Rain with Halo 3: ODST)

The General, seeing Naskoshia crippled and our position in the war dominant, allowed us and Bandit 1 to fly back to Valta to be present for Viking’s funeral, who was being buried back in his hometown. We took a flight back and arrived a day before the ceremony. We stayed at an inn, got our black suits together, and went to the funeral the next day. Gray clouds masked the angels that were weeping, their tears pouring on us as they also mourned for our loss. A small beam of light broke through the clouds and shined on Viking’s grave though, giving us some peace of mind that he truly did make it to Valhalla. We sat in our rows, looking at a black closed casket, a photo of Viking smiling, a priest, and two riflemen standing strong looking to the skies. I looked to my squad, who all shared the same anger, sadness, and disbelief I had. Maverick shook his head looking at the casket, “Buried on his own fu*king birthday… I…” My leader broke and held his face in his hands as Trips and Castle consoled him with tears in their eyes. To my left I saw Viking’s family, I recognized them from the photos he had shown me. His wife heartbroken, and his children sad and confused. Looking at their family, my squad, and my fallen brother’s grave taught me it didn’t matter how “strong” of a soldier you ever were. The pain of loss breaks even the strongest of wills. The priest got the funeral moving along, we each said our remarks about Viking, and the ceremonial rifleman sent out shots in his honor. Then, before we knew it, we were on our way back to the frontlines. I was grateful to be present for the funeral but it still didn’t feel fair to leave so soon, like we didn’t even get time to process the grief. First we lost Rattler, and now we lost the level headed rock that our team loved and respected. When we returned to Fort Brazka, the Spartan Squadron vowed that we would protect each other at all costs, and we refused to lose another Spartan, we simply couldn’t afford to. Bandit, although he wasn’t an official member of the squad, became an honorary member for all he has done with us. And we refused to fly in or alongside anyone else if Bandit wasn’t with us.
ACHIEVING PEACE THROUGH VIOLENCE
“ACHIEVING PEACE THROUGH VIOLENCE”

September 16th, 2047:

General Savage informed us how they have kept control of Fort Brazka but have reached a stalemate on the frontlines of the airbase Nakasa. “They refuse to give up,” General Savage sighed, “so sometimes the only way to achieve peace is through violence. That’s why our main focus is on taking their capital. And we can’t do that with Nakasa in the way. They’ve been successfully repelling our attacks ever since, that’s why I didn’t want to launch this next attack until I could get you boys back on the field with us again, we need the strength of the Spartans to put Naskoshia into submission. Now we-” “General!” one of the advisors yelled. “Enemy forces inbound, they’re trying to take back the base!” he said. “Dammit!” General Savage said, “Plans have changed, hold the fort and don’t let these bastards take it back! Spartans! Get to the frontlines.” Instead of flying an attack heli, Bandit actually chose to assist in directing the AA defenses of the base. We got geared up and made our way out. As we did, Maverick said, “I’m tired of these damn bastards taking from us. They took Rattler, they took Viking, well they are DONE taking from us.” Maverick, normally being the calm and cool one of the group, lost his temper but quickly regained his composure. He said, “I don’t CARE if this is their homeland, we’re sending these devils to the dirt. Their leaders and their families are gonna be disappointed by the end of the day. They’ll KNOW the pain we’ve felt, and we aren’t losing anyone OR anything today. Spartans, MOVE OUT!” “Haa Ouu!” We chanted as we ran into battle.

BITTER VICTORY & DANGEROUS SKIES
“BITTER VICTORY”

September 16th, 2047 (Continued):

We held our own and slaughtered their infantry and artillery. Soon enough friendly air support came in and dropped bombs on the enemy forces, sending the Naskoshian army scattering back in retreat. I stopped aiming down my sights at them and scoffed in disgust. We had won but it felt like a shallow victory, nothing but more dead people that couldn’t go back to their families. Even watching the fighter jets attack the enemy, it didn’t feel right not seeing Evans soaring above us. Or Viking hitting me with a cheesy one liner for us to roll our eyes at. It didn’t feel the same, none of it did. And I could tell by the look on my teammates' faces that they felt the same way. Just bitter, worn out, and pushed to our limits.

We didn’t have any time to rest though, because shortly after the enemy ran, General Savage ordered all troops to mobilize and prepare for a counter-attack on Airbase Nakasa within the next few days. The order felt rushed and not as thoroughly planned as our previous attacks. Me and the team groaned in exhaustion. Maverick sensed the annoyance and said, “I know you’re tired, I am too team. But if taking Nakasa leads to taking the capital and ending this war, then we can finally get some peace. Let’s do this, for Viking’s sake.”

“DANGEROUS SKIES”

September 17th, 2047:

All troops, including Spartan Squadron, are ready to move, but we cannot safely advance towards Nakasa because of the heavy presence of enemy air forces on the frontlines. General Savage has coordinated with our Air Force commander to send a large group of fighters to re-establish air dominance over the area so we can safely move our troops and launch the attack.

THE JOURNEY TO NAKASA
“THE JOURNEY TO NAKASA”

September 17th, 2047:

With enemy planes out of the way and the spirit of our fallen friend behind us, we felt the fire keep burning, boarded a transport heli with Bandit 1, and pushed along with the Valtan army to Nakasa, a journey that would take a few days. Hoping that winning the battle would put our woes to rest, and closer to being done with this war and back home. I take back what I said about being fascinated or excited by war. Those are the words of naive man who is too blind to see what it truly brings. Viking was right, there are no good guys in this, just greed, violence, fear, loss, and chaos.

“A NEW ENEMY”

September 21st, 2047:

When we arrived to take on Nakasa something was different about the soldiers’ uniform, they all had some type of gas mask or face cover. No matter, we must take them down. It’s us or them, just like Milahgo. Viking, Evans, Rattler, we once asked you to protect us on the battlefield, now I ask you to protect us from the skies, carry us to victory, or at least protect us from losing anymore of our brothers. This fight isn’t about our superiority or “Glory to Valta.” anymore. This is about winning this war so we can put our guns down and go home.

A TITAN RISES FROM THE GRAVE
“A TITAN RISES FROM THE GRAVE”

September 21st, 2047 (Continued):

Our Spartan might was shown on the battlefield, Bandit 1 and some friendly gunners were providing air support overhead as we took over the town. “They’re runnin!” Bandit 1 called out to us. “Keep up the pressure!” said Maverick. We watched as the enemy returned fire but continued to fully retreat. Even their air forces were clearing the area, even though they had the advantage in the air. Something wasn’t right… this felt too easy and I felt unsettled. Just then Bandit called out, “Enemy bomber incoming!” This bomber looked significantly larger than the ones we’d seen before, and its weapon bay was wide open. Maverick looked up and said, “Is that...?” “Oh no…” Castle shuttered. The bomber released a Titan Stomp and was dropping it dead center of the quarry. The realization hit me like a freight train. I thought we destroyed the only one they had! Now it made sense why all the enemies had gas masks. “Everybody brace!” yelled Longshot.

Thinking they had dropped a nuke and there was nothing we could do, we all flinched and hunkered down. Instead of instantly detonating, the weapon thudded hard into the ground in the quarry, and things fell eerily silent for a few seconds. We looked at the weapon in confusion, neither side was shooting. Then, we learned why it was called the Titan Stomp and its “Earth shattering” capabilities. The tail end of the weapon extended from the ground, revealing a gigantic steel hydraulic press that quickly lunged into the ground. BOOM! The weapon released both a gigantic EMP and a massive shockwave that knocked us off our feet and caused an earthquake. I rolled out of the way as the home next to me crumbled and fell apart. I barely managed to get back on my feet to see the horrifying power of this weapon. A massive dust storm had formed from the force of the Titan Stomp. There were massive cracks in the ground that reached all the way from the quarry to us! I watched in horror as the quarry collapsed in on itself from the shockwave and buried our friendly soldiers who had just taken control of the area. I looked up to see Bandit’s helicopter spinning out of control and one of his gunners falling out. “Bandit!” I tried to call him on the radio but got nothing but static, that damn EMP. I couldn’t do anything but watch him struggle until he fell out of vision into the dust storm and I heard a large crash. My squad got back onto their feet and saw what was happening. “My God!” Castle said in disbelief. Longshot was smart and caught on to the situation quickly. He said, “Quick! Everyone grab a mask from one of the dead soldiers!” We all scattered as we looted the dead bodies of our enemies and took their masks. Longshot made the right call, because just as we put our masks on a plume of dark red smoke emitted from the rocks burying the weapon and the smoke cloud was rapidly spreading across the area. Maverick gathered the team and said, “We’ve gotta run! Quick! There’s a car not too far ahead! Let’s go!" The enemy got back on their feet and began to attack us again though and we were pinned down in the town. As we continued to fight the advancing enemy troops, the deadly red toxic cloud moved in, making our vision even worse. Suddenly I heard Trips choking and gasping for air as he fell to his knees. “Trips? Trips?!” “My mask-” he gagged, “My mask is broken!” His eyes turned bloodshot red and he twitched as he struggled for air. “TRIPS!” Maverick yelled out. The enemy was pushing even harder now. “Dammit! We HAVE to get that car, Spartans!” “What about Trips?!” I yelled. “”He’s a dead man,” said Longshot, “and we’re gonna be joining him if we DON’T GET OUT OF HERE!” Looking back I saw Trips was lifeless. I hated having to leave him behind but we had no choice. We could barely see through the dust and the toxic cloud, and now we started seeing pairs of red glowing eyes in the smoke, it was terrifying. The enemy had some form of infrared technology in their masks. They looked like demons attacking from the shadows. But if they had infrared tech in their masks, that meant we did too. I felt around my mask until I flipped a switch that cleared my vision up. “Everyone, flip the switch on the right side of your masks!” I called out. Now we could see thermal outlines of the enemy, and we had clear eyes on the car now. “Good sh!t, Rookie. Move Spartans, MOVE!” We pushed the enemy back and fought our way to the car. Longshot got in the driver’s seat and Maverick got on the gun, and I sat next to Longshot shooting out of the window as I said, “DRIVE!” Longshot punched it as the enemy shot at us. We didn’t know what direction we were heading in besides getting out of the town. Once we got to more open land I noticed we were passing by the wreck of a crashed helicopter. “Wait!” I called out. “Stop the car, stop the car! That’s Bandit!” It seems somehow his aviator mask was keeping him alive. Bandit was shooting his pistol while his other arm was injured and he held it tight against his stomach. Longshot pulled in close, we opened the door and Castle pulled Bandit into the car quickly. Bullets were still hitting the car and flying past us as Longshot sped off.

Eventually we got out of the dust storm and the toxic cloud, and could see friendly troops that were also fleeing up ahead. The sky cleared and we saw that it was nighttime. The car started to sputter. “Dammit! They must’ve hit the fuel tank!” The indicator was on “E” as our car slowly sputtered to a complete stop. “How’s the arm, Bandit?” I asked. “It’s broken, but I can still fight.” he responded. We hopped out of the car and called out to our friendly troops ahead of us. To our surprise it was the Blue Python platoon, or at least what was left of it. "STOP RIGHT THERE!" One of the soldiers shouted, and soon we had guns pointed on us by our own troops. Even though we had on allied uniforms, they were still unnerved by us wearing the masks. Everyone put their hands up, all except Bandit. There was a lot of yelling back and forth, and Maverick tried to take control of the situation as he stepped forward. "DON'T SHOOT! WE'RE FRIENDLIES! FRIENDLIES!" He removed his mask to reveal his face, and we quickly did the same. We saw a bunch of scared, worn out faces shocked that we survived. “Boys!” it was Lieutenant Greene’s voice. “You’re- you’re alive!” Lt. Greene had a huge gash across his face, it appeared either a bullet or debris had grazed him, and although he was relieved to see us I could see in his eyes he was exhausted and lost. Maverick asked, “Where are you headed?” “I don’t know, anywhere but here.” said the Lieutenant. “Our radios don’t work and we can’t get in touch with General Savage or any friendly troops. We’re still trying to get a hold of em but that EMP did a number on our equipment. Castle said, “Ah, cr@p.” as he looked into the distance. We turned to him and saw the enemy troops and tanks advancing on us. Maverick held his gun up and said, “They’re not givin up, huh? F*ck it.” Lt. Greene said, “Looks like the gang’s back together, I just wish it wasn’t under these circumstances. All troops! Stand your ground and fight!” As I looked at my team and the other soldiers there wasn’t a feel of bravery or pride, but more of a sense of desperation, and a refusal to back down.

A SPARTAN'S CODE
“A SPARTAN’S CODE”

September 21st, 2047 (Continued):

We held the enemy off, but not without taking some losses. We heard the whirring of a helicopter in the distance, it was an enemy attack chopper lined up directly with me. “ROOKIEEE!” Before I could react I was shoved out of the way and saw that is was Maverick who pushed me. We locked eyes and he smirked, just before the helicopters gatling guns shredded through the sand and through Maverick’s chest. “NOOOO!” I screamed. Castle saw Maverick fall and was infuriated. He picked up a rocket launcher from a dead soldier and shot down the heli before it could turn back around for another run. I ran over to Maverick, who was alive but quickly bleeding out. “Wha-what am I supposed to do, captain? Why the hell did you do that?! Why-” “It’s okay kid…” He smiled as he coughed up blood, ripping his Spartan patch off his uniform and handing it to me. “I’ll be damned if I let one more of my men die… I been in this business for years kid, but you? You’re just a rookie, ha… You’ve got more life to live- *coughing* Take care of the Spartans for me kid, I believe in you. I… believe…” His eyes and life slowly faded off. I shook him frantically with tears streaming down my eyes, “Come on captain, don’t do this to me PLEASE! Wake up Captain Maverick. Maverick? Maverick!!” I fell onto him and started sobbing. Castle, Longshot, and Bandit stood over me. Castle said, “Frost… Frost. Frost!” And yanked me back onto my feet. “Come on Frost, we’ve got to stay strong. We- *sigh* I know… you’re hurt, we all are. Losing the man we looked up to ain’t easy…” Castle held me by my shoulders with a single tear running down his eyes.” “But Maverick SAVED YOU, saved all of us, for a reason. When the time comes we’ll come back for him. But Maverick wouldn’t want us to die here with him. We… we’ve got to keep pushing on. It’s what we’ve got to do as Spartans.”

I was heartbroken. We promised we wouldn’t let another one of our brothers die, and we failed to keep it. After all we’ve accomplished, after all our victories, this is what it led to? Lost in the deserts of enemy territory, broken, wounded, and no sense of direction. I had to pick myself back up though. For Maverick, for Viking, for everyone. Longshot walked up and said, “You’re the most well rounded out of all of us kid. I know Maverick would want you to carry his mantle. So from here on out you take the lead. We’ll be right by your side.” “Me too.” said Bandit as he brandished his pistol. I sniffled, wiped the tears off my face, and nodded firmly to my team. I turned to Lt. Greene, who was crouching over tending to one of his troops. “What’s our objective sir?” I said firmly. Lt. Greene stood tall and said, “We need to get our bearings and find a way to contact General Savage and our allied troops.” I nodded, “Understood. Castle, Longshot, get the surviving soldiers reorganized and provide aid where it’s needed. Bandit, you come with me. We’re gonna take inventory of our supplies and see if we can get a better fix of our location. They all said, “Yes, sir.” and we split off to do our duties. I took some extra time to get a sling and treat Bandit’s broken arm too. We got fires going and rested for the night, confident the enemy wouldn’t plan on attacking again soon, and planned to leave quickly in the morning.
HUNTED
“HUNTED BUT HOLDING ONTO HOPE”

September 24th, 2047:

We’ve gotten a better sense of direction and have been heading West, back towards the direction of Fort Brazka. But the desert seems to go on for miles, and the sandstorms occasionally throw off our sense of direction. We also have limited rations, ammo, and supplies. Longshot and the other soldiers have constantly been trying to repair and use the radios but to no luck, we still can’t get them to work to contact HQ. We haven’t given up yet though, we can’t afford to. I’m certain we’ll find a way back to General Savage and back in friendly territory. Another sandstorm blew in and my team hunkered down, as it cleared. We noticed a larger platoon of enemies directly ahead of us. There was no evading the fight. We had to take them head on.

THE STRENGTH OF A SPARTAN
“HEAVY LOSSES”

September 24st, 2047 (Continued):

We barely pulled out a win. During the middle of the fight, Lt. Greene valiantly stood atop a hill and fired his magnum against the enemies until he was ripped apart by machine gun fire. The victory brought relief but the death of our last main commanding officer took a heavy toll on morale. Communication became confusing and our remaining troops started arguing about who we should take orders from, but all agreed no matter what we would continue to head West together. We took the enemies rations and supplies so we can last longer, but we have to find a way to contact help soon. It doesn’t matter who we get a hold of at this point, long as it isn’t the enemy. I'm not gonna lie it's getting harder to keep going. To keep pushing. Knowing so many friends and soldiers I fought alongside with have died, in some ways far worse than others, it's taking a lot out of my soul. I'm not giving up yet though, I can't afford to. The group needs to hold it together. We can still get out of this.

October 1st, 2047:

I’ve lost hope that we will be able to call anyone to our rescue. We’ve been lost in the desert for so long. The will of my men and our troops are breaking, we’ve used most of our food, water, ammo, gas for our vehicles, medical supplies, and lost our sense of direction. Having random skirmishes with the enemy that continue to wear us down. Many of our troops have either died fighting the enemy, from dehydration, or from the horrible weather conditions. Still no sign of friendly forces and no ability to contact our allies using radios. Haven’t come across a single town, outpost, or anything. We’re wandering around this barren wasteland crying out for help. Someone, anyone. Please. Help us. We can’t last much longer like this.

“THE STRENGTH OF A SPARTAN”

October 3rd, 2047:

We only have two more days left of food and somehow still stuck in the middle of this awful desert. Our numbers have dwindled, and our chances of survival decline. A large group of enemy forces has been spotted right behind us chasing us down, so we continue to move out of their range. But I have a feeling they will catch up to us soon. Later on, Castle pointed ahead of us, “Look.” I took the binoculars from him and saw another group of Naskoshian soldiers directly ahead of us as well. Then I started looking around and noticed enemy forces coming in from all sides, only a few minutes out. “Ha.” I laughed. “They’ve surrounded us.” I handed the binoculars back to Castle. “So what do we do?” asked a tired, worn out Longshot. I loaded my gun and said, “We show them why we’re called Spartans.” Bandit, Castle, and Longshot nodded to each other, and we were all preparing for what might be the final battle of the Spartans.

WITH LOVE, MY FALLEN BROTHERS
October 3rd, 2047:

(Music Ace Combat 5 - The Journey Home Instrumental)

This is not a journal entry. These are my final thoughts. This... is the day I die. I fought alongside my brothers until one by one they fell. Bandit died saving my life from a bullet that was meant for me. Eventually I was the last one standing, firing on anyone who dared to be on the other end of my gun. Soon I was struck in the stomach, then my arm, and then my chest. Now I’m bleeding out on the sand, looking up at the scorching sun as I start to go numb and my vision goes cloudy. Never thought this was how my life would end, I didn’t want it to end here. I’m scared. Even though I knew death itself was a high possibility I never imagined it would happen like this. I look up to the clear skies, wondering if I’ll get to join my squadron once more in heaven? Or were they waiting for me in Hell because of all the people we killed, and would I be dragged down by the souls of my countless victims, waiting for their revenge? I don’t know, and not knowing is what makes it terrifying. Worst of all, there’s so many questions I have left: Will my country win? Will they fall to Naskoshia and the power of their new superweapon? How many more civilians will die needlessly in the name of glory and war? I’ll never get to know these answers. Fighting under the name Spartans with strong soldiers- no… brothers by my side, I thought I was a mighty force and a key part of the war. But now as I bleed out on these sands by my brothers I realize I was only a pawn in this game, we all were, despite our abilities and our courage. Everything’s fading to black. Beyond all of my fear and curiosity, I feel a sense of peace rest in my fading heart beat. Peace knowing that I fought to the very end, to die courageously by my brothers’ side. When I joined the army I felt I had no family, no purpose. But my brothers gave me that purpose. They turned me from a nobody into a Spartan. For once in my life, I felt like I had a meaning, that I mattered. And that’s all I ever wanted. To feel like I mattered. And with that peace of mind, I can close my eyes with a smile on my face, no matter what happens beyond this life. This is Specialist Roy “Rookie” McArthur, signing off one last time. Haa Ouu…
Thank You <3

@A Somebody Hello You know what it is? The flashbangs are already in the game but labeled as "Spearheads" I'd understand if someone would be confused about where to find em because of that. So yeah, when you're looking for flash bangs, look for Spearhead.
