UPDATE
While Valve has released an update to change the default launch setting, the desktop shortcut does not respect the option: it always launches the first option. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, but you'll need to use this guide for now.
Windows guide
1. Download and install the Steam Edit tool[steamedit.tg-software.com].
2. Launch the tool and type this game's title in the search bar:

3. Click on "Edit Launch". You should see this:

4. Change priorities of the launch options and name them however you want. You can even delete the launch options for the original release and the debug executable if you don't need them:

5. Save changes by clicking "OK".
6. Click on "Save & Refresh" to apply the launch options and refresh the Steam client.
Linux guide
Go to this repo[github.com] and follow the installation guide. You can follow the Windows guide from step 2 afterwards since the programs are identical in functionality. The only thing you'll have to do differently is to manually restart the Steam client after saving changes since there's no option to do that automatically.
Afterword
If you see the launch options reverted (because Steam needs to update metadata sometimes, i.e. when you acquire a new game in your library), you'll need to reapply them. You don't need to redo the whole guide (the tools save the changes in their configs), just make a desktop shortcut or batch script and pass these arguments depending on the tool used:
  • -autofix for Steam Edit.
  • -s or --silent for Steam Metadata Editor.
This is how the shortcut's properties should look on Windows:
Now you can forget launching the game from the Steam client and finally use the desktop shortcut.

Thanks for reading! Enjoy the game!
