French animation center

This strange sculpture is a tribute to the sweet poetic animation from France. The tower will be adapted to entertainment districts with wide parks, canals or opened urban spaces in general.
(They are plenty example of cultural centers in Europe: the canal de la Villette in Paris, Tate Modern in London or Guggenheim Bilbao etc.)

As the biggest animation maker of the old continent, France has always kept a secret garden in its animation production. Due to the expertise with the beginning of the cinema, it is the first place to create animated pictures with the pantomimes by Émile Reynaud and "Pauvre Pierrot" in 1892.

A lot of major movies have marked their own generations such as Kirkou from Michel Ocelot, les Triplettes de Belleville from Sylvain Chomet, or La Prothétie des grenouilles, Mune, Le roi et l'oiseau, Arthur et les Minimoys. Some other creations have been possible with American production such as Despicable Me or Sing from Illumination studios.

This animation scene often highlights cultures from middle-east, Mahgreb and globally Africa, due to his influences, and mixed cultures. Belgium plays a key part in this emulation by the huge amount of creations from bandes dessinées (the European format for comics or mangas popular and important in Belgium) that you can find in series such as Tintin, the Marsupilami, Lucky Luke, Astérix et Obélix, etc. BD is another key to understand why France have a strong history with animation, the same link we can find with comics in USA or mangas in Japan.
The French freedom of expression is often found in animated webseries for adults. Some small studios tend to develop their own series for a mature public such as Bobbpills, with Peepoodoo and the super ♥♥♥♥ friends, Vermin, or Mr Flap with Studio 4 for exemple. They expose subject that ranges from the violence in ghettos and police to sexual education with cute animals with a childish and innocent style.

Alternative could resume french animation. Sprinkled with strange dark European humour, you can find crazy mash up of universes supported by mixed animation technics, or just a spotlight on other countries of the world and environment issues for decades.
For now, the hexagon swings between 3D quality production and graphic arts, pastel, paint, which keep a unique creative atmosphere. This dreamlike spirit generates a kind of “exclusive” and special event when a long format comes out a French studio. Unfortunaltely, this exclusivity underlines the lack of real big producers that could develop this cultural field.
Does the French animation need to be developed with the risk to lose its own spirit? Or does it need to still a weird box, full of craft wonders?
