During the campaign in North Africa , the Royal Army had successfully employed numerous self-propelled self-propelled vehicles, in particular the powerful 90/53 on Lancia 3Ro and on Breda 52 . Despite the excellent weapon and the excellent mobility of the two heavy trucks, these solutions did not allow the transport of an adequate number of ammunition and above all proved vulnerable to the fire of tanks and planes. In 1942 the Ministry of War therefore required a highly mobile self-propelled vehicle that could support the armored divisions. In 1943, the prototype of the Breda is completed and in July it carries out the tests at the Centro Esperience d'Artilleria di Nettuno shooting range ., but the armistice of 8 September puts an end to the program.
