FAQ
Why are there errors? You didn't download the required RottenMall_Addon Pack
Why is half the Mall torn down? Cause the map is at 95% capacity, I couldn't build any more without crashing.

HISTORY
Opened in 1971, the Five Heights Mall was a Three-Wing enclosed shopping center located in the heart of a growing community. The Mall was an instant success, attracting a very high-end crowd and was able to host many popular celebraties of the 1970s.

The Mall originally housed 4 anchor stores: A Zellers on its west wing, a Sears at the north-west center of the Mall, JC Penny on its south-east wing, and a Montgomery Ward at its east wing. It also had 2 theaters and a food court!

The Mall was built and owned by Canary Properties which also operated and owned the renowned "Dixie-Five" Mall almost 1500 miles away. Canary Properties Manager (Floyd Buelleur) hired a man by the name of Jack Torrance to become Mall Supervisor in 1972.

Jack was a man of charisma and charm, he originally was the reason the Mall did so well in popularity, Jack knew many of the locals on a first name basis, and brought many of the smaller tenants to purchase a lease in the Mall.

By 1973 there was a waiting list of vendors wanting to rent a space in the Five Heights Mall, with Jack at the healm of it's leadership, he was able to triple previous profit seen in 1972. Jack was given a promotion and full control over the location. The Mall saw a large amount of traffic for a strong 5 years with Jack in charge, meanwhile its sister-location (the much larger and older Dixie-Five Mall) was struggling.

In the winter of 1978, Jack's boss Floyd called to inform Jack that the owner of Canary Properties (Mr. J. P. Canary),
was found deceased in his office at the Mall's sister-location. Floyd informed Jack that this was a turning point for both properties as many tenants were already uneasy about renewing their lease before this incident.

Into 1979 Floyd directed Jack to continue to run the Five Heights Mall as usual, however, meanwhile at the sister-location (Dixie-Five Mall) the last of the tenants were liquidating assets leaving the Mall vacant. As share price dropped for Canary Properties Corp., this left almost no money left in maintenance fees for Jack's Mall (the Five Heights).

Jack informed Floyd that while he was "wasting" all the remaining funds on the sinking Dixie-Five Mall, he should instead focus on the the Five Heights Mall, as it still was bringing in a profit and in much better condition. Floyd and Jack started an argument that would end their professional relationship. One day Floyd drove down the to Five Heights Mall in person to terminate Jack.

Several months later, In 1979, Canary Properties filed for bankruptcy. Rumor was that Floyd drove the company into the ground with failed redevelopment plans of the Dixie-Five Mall while focusing almost no effort on the Five Heights Mall.

In 1980, the Dixie-Five Mall was boarded up and condemned (sister location), it would sit and rot for the next 4 decades. Meanwhile, at the Five Heights Mall Floyd put a man by the name of Tom Clade in charge of supervision. Unknown to Floyd, Mr Clade was a man of no principle, a thief and terrible leader.

Through 1981 to 1989 Mr. Clade got into numerous fights with Mall vendors, was frequently seen strung out on drugs and alcohol, and had very little concern with anything "management" related. Many original employees quit or were fired by Tom. He replaced them with less-reliable poorly trained staff.

At this point, the JC Penny franchise approached Mr Clade with a termination of their lease in spring of 1989, blaming Tom for lack of upkeep of the Mall, causing a lower end crowd of customers and less overall traffic. This was the beginning of the end for the Five Heights Mall. The JC Penny store was converted into a warehouse for storage.

Only two months later, in the summer of 89' Tom Clade was found dead in a service corridor of the Five Heights Mall. He was found during the night during a patrol by the Mall's only security guard; John Dixon. John quit the day after. Many questions surrounded Tom's death, as he was found completely drained of all blood in his body. Locals started circulating rumors that the Mall was cursed as it was originally built on the foundation of a cursed factory that burnt down to the ground in 1921. Locals' called Tom's death "the blood drainage of 89'".

No locals would any longer shop in the Mall after the "drainage of 89", and in 1990 a new corporation named "Diamond Group" gained possession of Five Heights Mall. "Diamond Group" was an investment firm interested in commercial shopping centers.

Moving into 1991, the Mall continued to lose popularity fast. In the winter of 1990, Montgomery Ward informed "Diamond Group" it would not be renewing it's lease the next year. As Montgomery Ward originally had a separate Mall entrance, the store was sealed off from interior access from the Mall.

In 1992, Sears also terminated it's lease with the Mall, stating that it's employees refused to work at the location past 6pm. There were more and more reports of apparitions (or ghosts) being seen by numerous vendors inside the Mall during later hours into the night.

In 1997, Five Heights Malls last smaller tenants left the Mall. The Mall was now completely vacant, except for the Zellers anchor attached to the Malls west wing. As 1999 rolled around, the Mall saw no traffic, except for the occassional Mall-walker. The lights were still kept on for security reasons, however, the Malls heating system was disabled.

Zellers vacated the Mall in 1999 and the west anchor of the Mall was then replaced by a target. The rest of the Mall was sealed up from public access until demolition could take place.

In 1999 Target proposed to Diamond properties that the original three Wings of the Mall (North A, West B and East C) should be torn down, while salvaging and upgrading the original Zellers anchor building (which was now a target). In 2003, Diamond properties originally agreed to this proposal, and demolition began starting with the entire North Wing of the Mall.

In early 2004 just as the last of the North Wing of the Mall (including the Food Court and both movie theaters) was leveled into a pile of scrap, the demolition crew (Howard Demo) terminated its contract with Diamond Group.
They explained they would not be demolishing the rest of the Mall as the property had "incorrect permits".

Diamond Group could not find another demolition crew to tear down the rest of the Mall, with most demolition companies claiming the Mall's land was cursed. The main indoor portion of the Mall sat empty and sealed for another 10 years, with Target being the only anchor store remaining in service.

In 2014, target finally left the Mall complaining about the terrible state the building was in. They also sued Diamond Properties stating that the building was in a dilapidated state and caused the workers at the target location "mental turmoil" do to "weird things" heard inside the boarded up portion of the Mall.

In 2015, Diamond Group secretly hired an internal contractor to start illegal demolition of the original Montgomery Ward anchor building. Demolition was happening without proper permits, and again, was halted.

It is 2022, and the last phase of demolition has started by the city.
