How to run Soul Reaver on Win7 x64

Remember to make a copy of your original files (in this case, kain2.exe) before you change anything.
Use the SR1-hook. It fixes the widescreen aspect ratio and, most importantly, enables 60 fps. You can change the fps limit in the config file. https://www.sendspace.com/file/b00fbz
Enable XP service pack 2 compatibility on kain2.exe in the game folder.
On startup, select your video card with hardware acceleration, disable texture filtering, choose your resolution and audio card. That's it.
You can force anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing and vsync, using your video card control center. I got enabled anisotropic x16, FXAA and vsync. This way SR1 runs great, at 60 fps, textures look crisp (pixelated even), yet not aliased. In-game texture filtering only makes the textures blurry, and is also rumored to cause choppy sound.
The only thing i couldn't fix yet is the resolution, which resets every time on startup.

guys you can add .dll files that are missing from newer windows that the older windows had one is dplay.dll i've added it and got things working it might just require one of these older .dll files they are easy to add and it isn't illegal microsoft wouldn't make them compatible if it was

I'm certain you could find the latest patch using bing or google. I haven't really tried it lately, and I actually got my hands on a PSX version. I just need to go get my PS2 back. I'd really like to go through it first before I play the PC version, just to take note of any differences.

In all honesty Windows 8 sucks when it comes to playing older games. The problem lies in the newer systems using programs that the original games have problems with, never needing them. This actually causes the game to think that the newer systems are overiding the original systems and proclaiming that they are not needed. This in turn makes it to where the game thinks it has nothing to operate with and causes it to crash.

The games were geared to a certain version of DirectX and other programs, and the newer versions have either updated perameters that the game doesn't recognize, or they were replaced by other programs that are supposedly better.

I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.
I excluded Soul Reaver from DEP, turned off the Steam Overlay, and excluded from the Anti-Virus as well.
The game still automatically shuts down whenever I star the game.
Why is Steam not giving a shit about this issue?
