Fixing Backwards Speed [Now on Nexus Mods]
By Beaucoups
A better version of these modifications to the game have been compiled and uploaded to Nexus Mods page by mbuddha. His mod compiled functions better and is easier to install and setup. You can find it here: https://www.nexusmods.com/darkmessiahofmightandmagic/mods/73?tab=description

Edit: If you still wish to manually modify the game then follow the instructions below. The Nexus Mods version has some extra features which you may like. So check that out before you begin modifying using my commands.

Is the backwards movement speed annoying? Here's how to change it.

Basically everywhere I went no-one knew how to fix the backwards walking speed. But I found someone's hidden post on how to change it. So I decided to make a similar guide using what I was able to find. Plus commands for crouching speed.

1) First make a text document called autoexec.cfg at this location:

Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player\mm\cfg

(If for some reason you have one, then just add this in the already existing autoexec.cfg file)

2) From here you should only see a config.cfg file there and your newly made autoexec.cfg file. Make sure the file changes to an actual .cfg file type and not just a text document (.txt).

3) Once you've done that, add/type these lines inside the autoexec.cfg:

sv_rollangle 0
sv_airaccelerate 100
hl2_normspeed 200
hl2_sprintbackspeed 200
hl2_sprintforwardsidespeed 300
hl2_sprintsidespeed 300
hl2_sprintspeed 300
hl2_walkforwardsidespeed 300
hl2_walksidespeed 100
hl2_walkspeed 100
sv_friction 8.5
hl2_duckbacksidespeed 125
hl2_duckbackspeed 125
hl2_duckforwardspeed 125
hl2_duckforwardsidespeed 125
hl2_duckspeed 125
hl2_ducksidespeed 125

4) Now that you have the commands in that cfg file, go to steam and right click Dark Messiah and go to launch options for the game. Now type this command into your launch options:

+exec autoexec.cfg

Now that you're done you've fixed the games movement speeds.

This will allow you to move backwards just as fast as forwards. Which is a good fix in my opinion. These speeds of 300 is fairly quicker than the default speeds. So change these numbers around if you think you've become too fast.

P.S. The sv_friction 8.5 command is what makes you stick the ground a little better. The default sliding once you stopped moving made it feel like the inertia was on ice. So, only add that line if you want to slide less.

There are also helpful crash fixes online if your game keeps crashing. You will need to download a small .exe that allows for more ram for the game.

Hope this helps!

Let me list off some older stats then. Why not. Old name: Lord_Of_Death. Steam level of 23-24. 3959 total xp from only 9 badges with 0 being foil. Total account XP cost of a measly $7.92. Steam account of ~13 years old. 44 Steam friends. Closest friends of accounts: curtthehuman, YEETKING. Most likely from Florida.
