Left 4 Dead 1

Made by Valve and Turtle Rock Studios, Left 4 Dead 1 was released in 2008 with the purpose of a online zombie co-op game.

Left 4 Dead 2

Made by Valve, Left 4 Dead 2 was released in 2009 with the purpose of an amazing sequel. The problem is, they rushed the game to release for that 1 year anniversary. There were/are still glitches in the game that they never fixed (None of them are that bad at all, pretty fun ones overall).

Survivors

Left 4 Dead 1 introduced 4 survivors (Bill, Louis, Francis, and Zoey). The trailer really shows some of their traits and feelings.

William "Bill" Overbeck

Bill is known as the leader of the group, he led through 2 world tours and found himself in the end of the world. Throughout the campaigns, he has a rough relationship with Francis but him and Zoey have a great relationship. Jumping all the way to the sacrifice, Zoey is mad at Bill for not going back to save people. She doesn't realize that he did that to save them, because his plan was to go to an island that would never have zombies on it. Francis and Louis make jokes throughout the entirety of The Sacrifice about Bill and Zoey, but they will definitely regret it. After Bill perishes to save the others, Zoey seriously regrets being mad.

Francis

Francis is knows as the joker of the group, always trying to be funny. He also hates everything...except vests.

Louis

Louis is known as the confident survivor of the group, always jumping ahead to see things. He has a good relationship with everyone throughout the story.

Zoey

Known as the youngest survivor in the group, Zoey is courageous and wants to save people (which is why she got so mad at Bill in The Sacrifice).

Nick

At first, you will think that Nick is just an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that doesn't care about the others, but as you go through the campaigns you can really tell how much he starts to care about them.

Ellis

Known for his Keith stories, Ellis is the guy you can always get a laugh from. Even though he gets a lot of crap from Nick and the others, he always keeps telling his stories.

Coach

Known as the food king, Coach keeps the group going as their "leader".

Rochelle

Known as the most hated by the community (which sucks), Rochelle is most definitely the mom of the group. Always trying to stop any argument/fight.

Comparison

I think every campaign has its unique twist, but I definitely like the Left 4 Dead 2 campaigns more. Between the starting campaigns (story wise), I think Dead Center has a better story. For starters, the location is amazing. They are in Savanna fighting their way out of a hotel. It also showed a lot more character story than No Mercy.

When it comes to comparing the final campaigns, I would have to go with The Sacrifice instead of The Parish because the story is more dramatic and interesting. Even though Bill dies (which is so sad), there is so much more character lore.

Comparison

I definitely think Left 4 Dead 2 wins because there is way more maps/rounds and the Left 4 Dead 1 maps are in L4D2.

Versus

Left 4 Dead 1 Introduced Versus for the purpose of a fun PvP mode. People used to play it a lot, now they don't on Left 4 Dead 1. The maps you can play on are No Mercy, Crash Course, Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest, and The Sacrifice.

Left 4 Dead 2 brought back Versus with the same purpose of a fun PvP mode. This time, they really messed up. Even now, 12 years after release there is people playing but it's only "sweats". I do not recommend Versus if you don't want to be mad/sad by what some of these people say. The maps you can play on Versus are Dead Center, The Passing, Dark Carnival, Swamp Fever, Hard Rain, The Parish, No Mercy, Crash Course, Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest, The Sacrifice, and The Last Stand.


Comparison

I would recommend Left 4 Dead 2 Versus because of more players but the community on there is toxic as hell.

Conclusion

Thank you so much for reading this guide! I definitely think Left 4 Dead 2 is your better bet at buying than Left 4 Dead 1. If you wanted to get them both for about $5 instead of $20 (or $15 with the bundle), you could wait for a sale. They are about $2 each on sale.
