Left 4 Dead 1 introduces 4 Campaigns (No Mercy, Death Toll, Dead Air, and Blood Harvest) along with 2 dlc campaigns (Crash Course and The Sacrifice). This guide is dedicated to tell you all about what happens in each campaign and maybe some voicelines :)
No Mercy
Chapter 1: After experiencing an intense fight on the streets (Left 4 Dead 1 Trailer), they find themselves on the roof of an apartment building. They grab some supplies and head through the apartment. They keep going and head outside. As they are walking, they see subway signs and keep going. They find the entrance to the sub station and head down.

Chapter 2: After finding their way in the sub station, they open the safe room door and head deeper in. They head down into a room filled with signs and Bill says "The red line north will take us straight to mercy hospital". So, then they head on the red line north track. They find some stairs and head up to a generator room. They press a button (which alerts a horde) to lower the garage door. They fight off the horde and head upstairs. They find themselves outside and see a helicopter with the person on the intercom saying "Head to no mercy hospital for evacuation". So, then the survivors run down the street into a safe room.

Chapter 3: Getting closer to the hospital, they head outside and head through a restaurant and find a lift. They use the lift (which alerts a horde) to go up onto a roof and they run across to get through a building. They go down some stairs and run until they find a maintenance room with 2 manholes. They jump down (one of 2) and head through the sewers. They keep going and find a ladder back up. They climb up and find the hospital.

Chapter 4: Finally inside the hospital, they open the door and head through. They go up many stairs and rooms. Eventually, they find an elevator and they press the button (which alerts a horde). They fight off the horde and jump in the elevator when it arrives. It takes them from the 4th floor to the 28th floor. They keep going and eventually find a safe room.

Chapter 5: Closer than ever to the roof, they open the door and keep going. They run past some rooms and climb some ladders onto the roof. The survivors run down to a little building with a radio. They talk to the pilot and they tell him to head out. They fight off the hordes of zombies (and 2 tanks) while waiting for the pilot. Eventually, the helicopter lands and they jump on.

Summary

I think No Mercy is an amazing campaign and definitely started off the story as well as dead center did for Left 4 Dead 2.
Crash Course
Chapter 1: After escaping with the pilot, the pilot turned into a zombie and they had to shoot him. They crashed in the middle of nowhere. As they all got up from the crash, Francis complained and hated on helicopters. He also yelled saying "Why did you shoot our pilot?!". They grabbed supplies and started walking. They walked down a long alleyway with a few rooms on the side. They run through a warehouse and more alleyways. They find themselves on a highway with a barrier and a howitzer is in line of the barricade with a military truck and a mini gun turret. They fire the howitzer (which alerts a horde) and wait for the fire to burn out. They keep running across the highway and find a safe room.

Chapter 2: They open the safe room door and keep going. More and more alley ways and side buildings. Eventually, they find the truck depot and head in. They start up the generator (which alerts a horde) and wait for the truck to lower. They fight off hordes of zombies and 2 tanks and eventually, the truck lowers all the way and they hop in.

Chapters

1 (The alleys)
2 (The Truck Depot Finale)

Summary

I honestly personally didn't like this campaign because of the fact that it was full of the same formatting such as just a bunch of alleyways, same boring buildings next to you, etc.

Death Toll
Chapter 1: After escaping with the armored truck, they find themselves in Riverside (there was no explanation to what happened with the truck, I am sorry). They see an evacuation sign pointing towards a church. So, then they grab supplies and start walking. They go past a collapsed bridge with a bunch of collided cars and into a tunnel. They head through the tunnel and find some stairs heading down into a generator/maintenance room. They head outside and find a safe room.

Chapter 2: They open the safe room and head into the drain tunnels. They find an open area with some supplies and they keep going until they find a rose bridge with a button (which alerts a horde). They fight off the horde and run across the bridge when it fully lowers. They keep going deeper into the tunnels and eventually find a way out to the surface. They run into a warehouse and find a safe room.

Chapter 3: They walk outside and keep walking along the train tracks. They find an abandoned bus and keep going until they find a house in the middle of nowhere. They cut through the house and find the church. They run in and find the door to be locked from a guy who was scared to trust anyone after he was bit from someone. He refused to let the survivors in and rang the "dinner bell" (which alerts a horde). The survivors fight off the horde of infected and then the door unlocks. They open the door to see that the once alive survivor turned into an infected (either a hunter, smoker, or a boomer).

Chapter 4: Sign of no hope, they walk outside and keep going. They walk down many streets and have to cut through buildings due to barricades in the roads. Eventually, they find a van leading them up into a office area which leads them out into an open construction site. They use a forklift (which alerts a horde) to make a platform for them to cross. They run until they get to a safe room.

Chapter 5: They walk outside and see military trucks. They cut through yet another house to find themselves in a woods area. They find a boat house and run inside to hear people talking on the radio about needing people with guns to protect them. The survivors answered back and told them to head out and get them as they had guns for protection. They fought off hordes of infected and 2 tanks while waiting. Eventually, they pulled up with the boat and the survivors hopped on.

Chapters

1 (The Turnpike)
2 (Drains)
3 (Church)
4 (The Town)
5 (Boathouse Finale)

Summary

I think this campaign was pretty decent. It had a good turn of events in each chapter and definitely had a cool story behind it.

Dead Air
Chapter 1: After escaping on the boat, they find themselves in a greenhouse (there was no explanation again, I am sorry). They see a military plane heading towards a nearby airport. So, they grab supplies and head outside. They run into an apartment and cut through it. They run through another apartment and drop down to the street and run into the safe room.

Chapter 2: They walk outside and find themselves in a construction area. They walk into an apartment and keep going. They go upstairs and find a crane. The survivors start the crane (which alerts a horde) and they wait for the dumpster to lower. They climb the lower when it lowers and keep going. They cut through a office building and find themselves back on the streets. They run into a building and find a safe room.

Chapter 3: Walking outside, they find themselves in a construction site with a wooden barrier. They shoot the gas cans (which alerts a horde) and fight off the infected. Once the barrier is burned, they run. While running, they can find many supplies in buildings on their side. The survivors find themselves at the airport. They walk into the parking garage and go up the ramps. They run into the terminal and find a safe room.

Chapter 4: Now inside the airport, they keep going until they find a barrier in their way. They use a van (which alerts a horde) to ram it into the barrier to clear their path. They run and find themselves in the bag area. They find the security checkpoint and run past one of the metal detectors (which alerts a horde). They keep running and find a safe room.

Chapter 5: Now at the runway, they go outside and see the plane. As they are running to the plane, a different plane crashes on the runway. The pilot talks to the survivors telling them that if they fuel up his plane, he will give them a ride. So, then they use the gas pump (which alerts a horde) and they fight off the infected and 2 tanks. Then, the plane opens and they hop in.

Chapters

1 (The Greenhouse)
2 (The Crane)
3 (Construction Site)
4 (Terminal)
5 (Runway Finale)

Summary

I honestly really liked the concept of getting to an airport and fighting your way through to get on a runway.

Blood Harvest
Chapter 1: After surviving the airport with the pilot, they find themselves in the woods (there really isn't an explanation for this again, I am truly sorry). After seeing a sign for a military evacuation at a nearby farm, the survivors grab supplies and head through the woods. They find few buildings along the way but many zombies. They keep going and find a safe room.

Chapter 2: Now inside a warehouse, they open the door and keep going. They find an alarmed door (which alerts a horde) and they open it. They run until they get outside and find a tunnel with a bunch of train cars. They walk through the tunnel and find a safe room.

Chapter 3: They open the door and find themselves in a maintenance area. They keep going and walk outside to more woods. They find another building and go inside. They go down some stairs and walk outside to more and more train tracks. They see a wooden bridge high up and a train car. So, then they derail the train car (which alerts a horde) and ram into the bridge, making the bridge collapse. They go up the collapsed bridge and run into a safe room.

Chapter 4: They walk outside and find more and more woods. They keep going and run through a warehouse and keep following the train tracks. They cut through a house (due to a train car blocking the tracks). They get on the other side and cross a bridge to find a safe room.

Chapter 5: Closer than ever to the farm, they open the door and start walking. They climb up a train car and walk up a hill. They see the fields and drop down into them (which alerts a horde). They run straight to the farmhouse and hear a radio. They respond to the military who were talking on the frequency. They told them that they were at the farmhouse waiting. So, then the military set out to get them and they fought off hordes of infected and 2 tanks. Then, the truck pulled up and they jumped in.

Chapters

1 (The Woods)
2 (The Tunnel)
3 (The Bridge)
4 (The Train Station
5 (Farmhouse Finale)

Aftermath

Now, before I end this campaign, I do want to note that before The Sacrifice, they were taken to a military base (based on the comics). They got hold of some guns and stormed out of the base and used a train car to escape. If you would like to play that campaign for yourself, I will leave the link for you right here (seriously, go support this person and drop them a like and maybe an award if you would like. They seriously deserve it).

Summary

I think blood harvest had a great story. The only problem I have with the campaign is the same amount of railroads and train cars that go on and on throughout some of the chapters.

The Sacrifice
Chapter 1: After escaping the military base with the train car, they find themselves in another small city. Bill has an idea to get a sailboat so all four of them can live on an island with no zombies (because as far as they know, zombies can't swim). So, they they get off the train and look around the dock. They see many crashed boats and intact boats. Francis points at a bunch of them and Bill says "Sailboat, Francis. Sailboat". Louis asks "Why a sailboat?", and Bill responds with "Because I don't want to stop every 15 minutes to get gas". Zoey gets super mad at Bill the whole time because she wants to go back and try to save humanity, but Bill told her that he is doing it for her and he states the facts, such as: The military betrayed them, they are carriers and each time they escaped somewhere, the pilot turns. So, then they start walking and they find more buildings with supplies. They go past a bunch of boats on the way (but not sailboats). Francis keeps joking with Bill about all the boats around. They keep going until they find a train car blocking their way. They see the train car was by the military and hear a tank inside. They open the door (which alerts a horde) and fight the tank. They kill the tank and fight off the horde, then they open the other door and keep going. Eventually, they find a warehouse and go inside to find a safe room.

Chapter 2: Still on the hunt for a sailboat, Zoey is still really pissed at Bill. Francis and Louis keep making jokes the whole time. They keep walking and find a building with supplies. They jump out a window and find a half sunken boat in the middle of this water pit. They walk through the pit and keep going. They find a gravel hill with a bridge. As they are climbing the hill, a bunch of birds start going crazy (which alerts a horde). The survivors fight off the infected and cross the bridge. They walk across a huge ship and hop off. They keep going and find a safe room.

Chapter 3: Still no sailboat in sight, but Bill has hope. They walk outside and cut through a tiny store. They go outside and find a bridge (which is rose) with a sailboat next to it. They look around and find 3 generators (which power the bridge). So, then they turn on all three generators (which alerts hordes of zombies and 3 tanks) and wait for the bridge to lower. Once the bridge lowers, they hop on and climb up. As they are trying to press the button to rise the bridge, the generator at the bottom needs to be restarted. Bill knowing that if the bridge can be rose and they can fight off the infected to get back down to get on the sailboat, he climbs down into the hordes of infected and tanks to restart the generator. He runs for it and powers it up. Unfortunately, he loses his life for the others. Francis, Louis, and Zoey scream as he gets killed by the infected.

Chapters

1 (Docks)
2 (Barge)
3 (Port)

Summary

Even though this map was pretty short, I really thought it was so depth in the story. Unfortunately, we lost Bill (R.I.P.).

No Mercy is personally my favorite.
It's honestly perfect, The hospital immediately shows the Players what there goal is.
And the atmosphere of No Mercy is honestly perfect. It even gives out the look of How Left 4 Dead was meant to be. A horror zombie fps game.
