Red Dead Redemption 2 has 30 Stranger Locations. This guide includes a map that will show you where to find all 30 Strangers and the starting locations of their missions in RDR2.

More Strangers become available gradually throughout the story. You can still do their missions after the story. Below you can find a map with all their locations as well as to text walkthroughs that explain them in-depth. Most of them are quest lines consisting of multiple parts. After doing the first mission, a marker for the follow-up quest will become available a little while later (usually after 24-48 hours). If something is not available, you must progress a bit further in the chapter or check at a different daytime. Some are only available at day or at night, refer to the linked walkthroughs below.

The Noblest of Men, and a Woman Starting Location

This mission is likely one of the first ones you will discover. It starts in the Saloon in Valentine, close to the first camp of the gang.

Biographer Theodore Levin is in the process of writing about famous Gunslinger Jim Boy Calloway, who is passed out drunk on the bar; apparently not for the first time. Because Levin can’t get much information out of Calloway, he asks us to travel the country and speak to other famous outlaws, who once have crossed paths with him. They should ideally give us some statements and pose for a photo – if they refuse, they shall die if necessary. Levin hands us a camera and four pictures of the people we should find.

They will get marked on your map, once you have inspected the photos and their backsides.

You can approach them in any order you like. Down below they are listed from west to east.

Part I – Flaco Hernandez

Region:
Quite a bit to the north near the frozen Cairn Lake
Note:
He will be in his cabin – while some of his men are outside. There is no direct way to speak to Hernandez – either kill or threaten his gang-members to draw him out.

Part I – Emmet Granger

Region:
On his own on his farm next to his pig
Note:
He will not attack – simply approach him to start the conversation. Once defeated, remember to take a picture for the collection.

Part I – Billy Midnight

Region:
Around the Rhodes Train station
Note:
Speak to the clerk and he will reveal that Midnight should be on one of the next two trains. Wait outside and board the first train that arrives. Midnight will be in the last wagon, at the bar and is another candidate who doesn’t want to speak with us. He runs off and we have to follow him through the train and onto its roofs.

Part I – Black Belle

Region:
Currently resides in a large house in the Bayou noth of Saint Denis.
Note:
There will be roughly 30 enemies to kill, so you should stay in cover on the platform instead of heading out into the mud. Staying on the platform also gives a much better view of the whole scene. Once finished, Belle decides that it is time to move on, but gladly tells us a bit about the old days and poses for a photo.

Part II - Chapter 4

Region:
Saloon in Valentine.

Part III

Region:
On a large boat in the south-east of Saint Denis.
Note:
Galloway remembers his former arch enemy Slim Grant, now a Sheriff in the north.

The Smell of the Grease Paint Starting Location

This Stranger Mission Strand starts in the Saloon of Van Horn Trading Post, to the eastern part of the map.

Arthur encounters members of a traveling sideshow, Miss Marjorie and one of her acts by the name of Bertram; a huge fellow with a deformed head. Because of his limited mind, he loses his temper quite fast and chokes the bartender. Time for us to step in and give him a few good hits to make him stop. Eventually, he will apologize for his behavior.

Marjorie is missing her second act, a man by the name of Magnifico. If we could look out for him, she would be relieved, because he is her main attraction.

Part II

Region:
To the south-west of our last location and is sitting at a campfire in the wilds.
Note:
He disappears in a cloud of colored smoke. Now, we need to chase him. Always follow the clouds of smoke through the woods. Final, But there is more!

3. All That Glitters (South-West of Horseshoe Overlook Camp)

All That Glitters Starting Location

This Treasure Hunt is located quite close to the Gang’s first camp Horseshoe Overlook. It is upon a plateau overlooking the Dakota River.

Because he believes we are an adventurer like him and he doesn’t want his map to be unused, he offers us to buy it for $10. If you decline his offer he will bring it down to $5.

In case you scared him away, robbed or killed him by accident, you can buy his map from any fence in the game.

Treasure I

Region:
In the Horseshoe-Area, a bit to the north from where we picked up the quest. It is a mountain called Caliban’s Seat.
Note:
Approach it from North to South and you will be able to ride to the top. When reaching the top, before going to the small camp at the very end, head down to the right a bit and continue the narrow way along the cliff-side. The next treasure-map is in a small gap in the wall.

Treasure II

Region:
Is quite a bit up North; Cotorra Springs in the state Ambarino.
Note:
Out of all the rock-cairns in this area, it is the one with a rather large rock on its top.

Treasure III

Region:
Is east of the previous one, still in the state of Ambarino. To be precise, the Lake O’Creagh’s Run in the Grizzlies East.
Note:
The marking on the in-game map is actually a bit off. The location is not on the front-facing northern side, but on the other side of the island (south). In this location, Arthur will find two Gold Bars, which can be sold for a total of $ 1.000.
4. American Dreams (Find the 3 Murder Scenes to unlock this Stranger)

American Dreams Prerequisites:

In order to unlock the American Dreams Side Quest and it’s Stranger, you have to visit 3 murder scenes around the world and collect the maps from the victims chopped off heads. These Killer Clue Pieces can be combined, once you obtained all three of them.

First Murder Location:

Region:
South/southwest of Wallace Station
Note:
Disembodied torso tied to a large boulder with the words "Do you see?" written on it. The victim's head can be found on a smaller rock nearby.

Second Murder Location:

Region:
East of Braithwaite Manor until you get to the S in "Meadows" on the map.
Note:
You can find a corpse hanging in a tree, with the head behind the tree. The head can be hard to spot at night.

Third Murder Location:

Region:
Southeast of the Valentine and look for a wooden bridge.
Note:
Travel down underneath the bridge to see another torso hung from the rafters. Nearby the words "Look at my works" can be seen. The head of the victim is found impaled on a wooden support beam nearby.

American Dreams Location:

Region:
Is Lucky’s Cabin, south-west of Valentine.
Note:
Search for a hatch outside and travel inside of the murderer's chamber. You can find a letter the murderer wrote to his woman in the first room, and a knife can be interacted with in the second room. Afterward, the killer will sneak up from behind and knock the player out.

In a dazed state, the player will be taunted by the killer with a butcher's knife. They have to knock him out and hogtie him. If the player waits too long, the killer will torture them to death. After escorting him to the Valentine jail, he'll reveal himself to be Edmund Lowry Jr. and attack the sheriff. If the player saves the sheriff by killing Edmund, they'll get a $20 reward. If the player uses the lasso or does nothing, the sheriff will kill Edmund himself and won't give the player anything.
5. Arcadia for Amateurs (South-East of Strawberry)

  • You need to wait a few days between each mission.
  • Part III will be skipped in the epilogue, most likely because John would not know how to herd horses.

Part I

In the Wilderness South-East of Strawberry
Note:
After meeting Albert for the first time, follow the coyote for a while before it drops the bag and return to Albert.

Part II

Region:
Will appear northwest of Wallace Station.
Note:
Defeat the five wolves to complete the encounter.

Part III

Region:
Will appear just north of Emerald Ranch.
Note:
Ride around the horses he is attempting to photograph and gently lead them into his direction. As thanks, he gives Arthur a photo of the wolves from the last encounter.

This quest is skipped if done after Chapter 6.

Part IV

Region:
North of Saint Denis.
Note:
Row to three locations to find photo-ops with alligators. The first one counterclockwise is an alligator that drags prey into the water. Row close and in line for the shot. For the second shot, the player must get out of the photo and trigger an alligator to scatter into the water. For the third short, look for an alligator peacefully swimming. Return to the starting position to complete the excursion.

Part V

Region:
South of Valentine and is looking to photograph eagles near a cliff edge.
Note:
He loses his footing and the player must hoist him up to save him.
6. A Better World, A New Friend (Valentine)

Description

The player finds posters across the map requesting perfect animal carcasses for use in a Wildlife Art Exhibition. The carcasses are to be sent to Ms. L. Hobbs from a Post Office.

Walkthrough

Picking up the first poster will start the first hunting request from a total of 5. The first four are available from Chapter 2, the fifth list and the rest of the mission can only be completed in the Epilogue. These consist of:

Part I

After completing all of the hunting requests, visit L. Hobbs at Taxidermist House. Here, she rewards John Marston with the Squirrel Statue.

Part II

Once the player has completed the main storyline in Red Dead Redemption 2, they should place the squirrel atop the fireplace at Beecher's Hope. The statue will disappear multiple times and the player will have to find it. The locations in which the statue can be located are as follows:

  • Chest in John's Bedroom
  • Chimney in John's Bedroom
  • Chest in Uncle's Room
  • Wheelbarrow in the sheep pen
  • Chest in the barn
  • On top of Mount Shann
7. A Fine Night For It (Bayou area, north of Saint Denis)

A Fine Night For It Prerequisites

To unlock it you must find a chance encounter (random) with the “Night Folk” in the Bayou area. Around the Lagras Lake, at night time and you need hear voices, see shadows or lights, or see any other grey dot on your mini-map. You can make camp and sleep until night.

A Fine Night For It Location

The stranger will appear in the area.

The player must then agree to help the man and follow him to his house. Meanwhile, it is important to ensure that Dead Eye is fully charged, as it will be needed later on. Once they reach the cabin, five Night Folk will be present. The Night Folk are very quick and will attack with Bows by default and use machetes at close range, so the player should try to keep their distance. After leaving the house, the next wave of four that appears must be defeated. The player should watch their flanks vigilantly so the Night Folk don't loop around behind the protagonist and kill them.

After killing the entire group, the mission will be completed.
8. A Test of Faith - Dinosaur Bones (North-east of Flatneck Station)

Find 30 Dinosaur Bones and send All 30 Locations to Deborah MacGuiness. Return to the post office after 1-2 days to get invitation to Deborah MacGuiness’s hut in your mail.
Note:
  • Read the invitation you got in the mail or rest for a few hours. Then a white quest icon must show up north-east of Valentine for Deborah MacGuiness’s location. Go there and she will present you the restored dinosaur skeleton and give you a secret weapon, the Jaw Bone Knife, made out of dinosaur bone.
  • Once inspected, the dinosaur bones will disappear off their locations.
9. Fundraiser (Saint Denis)

10. Geology for Beginners - Rock Carvings (North-west of Strawberry)

The player can collect Old Brass Compass on the table. It is used for crafting the Raven Claw Talisman.

14. A Fisher of Fish (East of Flatneck Station)

Note:
When you lose a legendary fish off of the back of your horse or die while carrying it, wait a few days in game and the map will reload as if you never caught the fish and go back and get it again.

Part I

Jeremy Gill, a self-proclaimed legendary fisherman, is found fishing off the dock. After he is approached, he asks if the player is interested in an autograph or photograph before leading them inside of his cabin to show off his livelihood - selling stuffed fishes. He gives the player a map of all Legendary Fish sites in the world and says he'll pay a handsome price for any that are sent his way.

The required fish are:

Part II

Once all thirteen fish have been mailed to Jeremy, an invite to his cabin will be received in the mail.

Jeremy tells the player to help him on a fishing adventure: to catch a giant catfish in Río Bravo. Upon arriving, Jeremy tells the player to photograph him landing the fish. An entire day passes fishing. Finally, at night, Jeremy gets a bite, and fights the fish vigorously, but is pulled under the water and never seen again. His hat and Special Spinner can be picked up by the player.
15. The Iniquities of History (Rhodes)

Note:
He asks the protagonist to break into his home and retrieve three of his belongings for him; his revolver, his ledger and a valuable pocket watch.

Part II:

Region:
Jeremiah’s house is located to the north of us and can be entered from the southern side.
Things:
  • Watch - on the chimney in the first proper room.
  • Revolver - Interacting with the picture on the other chimney across will reveal that there is a trapdoor in the room and also introduce a pair of squatters threatening us. Once the threat has been taken care of, pick up the dropped gun, interact with the trapdoor in the middle of the room and head down.
  • Ledger - at the end of the basement, sitting on a crate to the right.

Head back and kill him after finish.
16. No Good Deed (Rhodes)

  • After you complete this mission, "Brothers and Sisters, One and All" appears the next day. A few days after this mission, "Of Men and Angels" will appear.

Part III:
Later, the pair can be encountered for a third and final time at Stilt Shack in Big Valley.

Part IV - V:
This missions is continuous and does not require waiting and hints.
Rewards:
The mission will end and you can pick up the $ 50 and the letter/contract from the table.

Being in Chapter 5 or 6 (only available until Chapter 6)

  • You need to wait a few days between each mission.
  • This mission is continuous and does not require hints.
  • You can go back in the epilogue and have a conversation with her if you complete the full mission line.
  • If you only complete the first mission and don’t finish the remaining ones by the end of Chapter 6, she will be dead in her cabin in the Epilogue. So this stranger mission can be missable.
  • On the hill just below Osman Grove, there's a guy at his camp site, between the dear and wolf symbols. There are paintings of naked women hanging in his tent. People say, what he was talking about a widow he found up north, and she asked him to leave and also watched her from the bushes.
  • Also, people say that she has some sort of amulet on her that fulfilled an item request.
  • If you only do one mission with charolote and then leave the NPC to run away when you encounter him you’ll find Charlotte raped and murdered. And if you finish her missions you’ll find the pervert shot, killed by her.
