People keep asking how to gain Trust Rank when in reality it doesn't really matter. This is a guide so people can shut up about it.

Understanding The VRChat Trust and Safety System
The VRChat Trust and Safety System is a system that was introduced into VRChat in 2018. It was created against the background of nuisances and rising concerns around trolls, crashers, micspammers and users, especially very new users engaging in less than favourable behaviour, because of no initiative in sticking around the game.

The system introduced "Trust Ranks" for people to gauge whether or not an individual is "trustworthy" or not. The higher your trust rank is the more time you've spent with VRC. By default, some avatar features are disabled depending on trust rank.

What's important to note however, is that not having a VRC account (Account created through VRChat's website) will reduce the speed at which you gain trust rank greatly.

To illustrate this, one of my own personal friends have played VRC since 2017, but hadn't left New User until last year. This was simply because he had not bothered to make a VRC account in the period 2017-2023.

So if you're on Quest or Steam and have the letters and numbers at the end of your normal username, you will need to create an account through their website to increase the speed. If you've been stuck on visitor for a long time you might want to check whether or not you're logged in with VRC. You can migrate your friends and favourites by following the guide that VRChat provides.[help.vrchat.com]

(Hours are approximations)
The 5 Trust Ranks:
  • Visitor
(This is the rank for people who've just gotten a VRC account, uploading content is disabled for this rank. Approx, 0 hours, 0 friends)
  • New User
(After a little sticking around you will eventually reach New User, here you get access to uploading avatars and worlds to the VRC servers. Approx, 10-50 hours, 15-30 friends)
  • User
(This is the average user's rank, and it can take a while to rank up when you've reached User. Approx, 50-100 hours, 30-70 friends)
  • Known User
(This is the final step before the highest rank, can appear as User if they choose to do so. Approx. 300-400 hours, 70-120 friends)
  • Trusted User
(The final rank in the Trust and Safety System of VRChat. By default, most avatar features are active for Trusted Users. Can also appear as User. Approx, 500-1200 hours, 120-180 friends)
Hidden ranks:
  • Nuisance
(This is a hidden rank reserved only for people who are blocked and muted frequently)
  • Veteran User
(This is supposed to be the actual final rank, so after trusted user. I've heard people say that this is a trust rank before. The only thing that makes sense to me, is if it was a rank that had existed but has since been deleted. Either that, or mods. Honestly bragging about having this is less than favourable - and I'd steer clear of people who do.)

Methods for Gaining Trust Rank
To put it simply, Trust is gained through showing your engagement with VRChat.
This can be achieved through receiving friend requests, sending friend requests, uploading content and not getting muted or blocked.

(Be aware that blocking and muting people has a negative effect on their trust rank.)

  • Friends
(Gaining friends will add upon your trust rank. Your total number of friends gets added to your trust rank, meaning if you unfriend people in masses you risk losing a rank.)
  • Content
(Uploading public content to the VRChat servers through Unity is a surefire way to gain trust rank quickly, this shows your dedication to VRChat since you've spent many hours learning an annoying program to create content for the community to enjoy.)
  • Reporting
(From what I've heard, it is possible to gain trust through reporting malicious content and/or content/behaviour that break the VRChat TOS. )

See section 9
VRChat TOS[hello.vrchat.com]

In conclusion, the best way of gaining trust rank at an exceptional speed, is through uploading content. Specifically public content, be it avatars or worlds, both should add quite a lot to your trust rank. Your content does not have to be extraordinary in terms of quality, but you will still have to learn how to upload content onto VRC.
TL;DR
The best way of gaining Trust in VRChat is through uploading public content.

  • Get New User, just add a bunch of people; some might add you back
  • Get Unity 2019.4.31p (or whatever version of Unity VRChat uses now)
  • Hop onto YouTube and find tutorials
  • Make public avatars/worlds
  • Profit

Heya Noro! One thing you should note about this however, is that people who do that aren't worth your time anyways :p

Beyond user, the only purpose of ranks is for the safety settings. Known and Trusted are just extra ranks. But sadly people are full of it and like to use cliques to say who is how and why. Like I've heard people think trusted are, others say visitors are bad. I'd say anyone can be bad or good regardless of rank or age
