to start the guide, i wanna say that there's minor attributes you will get if u pick certain races like in any previous games like morrowind or any other, and it really doesn't matter, unless you are really going for that meta build.
other than that you are free to choose any race you want :)

*also all the info here are from the game which i learnt, reddit and unofficial elder scrolls sites and some YouTube videos i remember from back of my head.

Alliances & info
Theres totally 3 Major alliances in elder scrolls games and they are more important to the lore if you are into RP'ing the character you're going to choose.
The Three Of Them Are as Follows;
  • Aldmeri Dominion - Gold
  • Daggerfall Covenant - Blue
  • Ebonheart Pact - Red

all these 3 Alliances have Regions that they have the most influence or rule on, they are as follow;

Aldmeri Dominion : Khenarthi's Roost, Auridon, Grahtwood, Greenshade, Malabal Tor and Reaper's March

Daggerfall Covenant : Stros M'Kai, Bethnik, Glenumbra, Stormhaven, Rivenspire, Alik'r Desert, Bangkorai

Ebonheart Pact : Bleakrock, Bal Foyen, Stonefalls, Deshaan, Shadowfen, Eastmarch, The Rift

Aldmeri Dominion

  • Altmer (High Elf)
    " The Altmer, or High Elves, were one of the original settlers of Tamriel and created the common language used throughout the continent today. They consider themselves descended from the gods, and superior to all other mortals. Elegant and sophisticated, many Altmer, as they're known in the Summerst Isles, are naturally proficient with magic. "


    Passive Abilities

    Highborn - Increases your experience gain with the Destruction Staff skill line by 15%. Increases your experience gained by 1%.

    Spell Recharge - When you activate an ability, you restore 625 Magicka or Stamina, based on whichever is lowest. This effect can occur once every 6 seconds. When you are using an ability with a channel or cast time, you take 5% less damage.

    Syrabane’s Boon - Increases your Max Magicka by 2000.

    Elemental Talent - Increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by 258.

    Best Personal Fav Classes To Play : Magicka Templar ( Can play as a Healer, Tank and DD )

  • Bosmer (Wood Elf)
    " Nimble and quick, the Wood Elves inhabit the thick, near-impenetrable forests of Valenwood, where they are known as Bosmer. They are supreme hunters, guides, and masters in sneaking and thievery, revering nature and the forest, and may be the only elves with a sense of humor. "


    Passive Abilities

    Acrobat - Increases your experience gain with the Bow skill line by 15%. Decreases your fall damage taken by 10%.

    Hunter’s Eye - Increases your stealth detection radius by 3 meters. Increases your movement speed by 5% and your Physical and Spell Penetration by 950.

    Y’ffre’s Endurance - Increases your Stamina Recovery by 258.

    Resist Affliction - Increases your Max Stamina by 2000 and your Disease and Poison Resistance by 2310.


  • Khajiit
    " A proud feline race from the southern province of Elsweyr, Khajiit are agile, irreverent, quick-witted, and fiery, often changing mood in a heartbeat. They revere Nirn's two moons and have a weakness for anything sweet. The Khajiit are fearsome warriors, proficient with bladed weapons and stand proudly at the forefront of every battle. "


    Passive Abilities

    Cutpurse - Increases your experience gain with the Medium Armor skill line by 15%. Increases your chance to successfully pickpocket by 5%.

    Robustness - Increases your Health Recovery by 100 and your Stamina and Magicka Recovery by 85.

    Lunar Blessings - Increase your Maximum Health, Magicka, and Stamina by 915.

    Feline Ambush - Increases your Critical Damage and Critical Healing by 12%. Decreases your detection radius in Stealth by 3 meters.

Daggerfall Covenant

  • Breton
    " The Bretons of High Rock are Nedic humans with a touch of elven blood. Poetic and passionate, they are people who take easily to both spellcraft and swordplay, and have the gifts of magic and diplomacy. "


    Passive Abilities

    Opportunist - Increases your experience gain with the Light Armor skill line by 15%. Increases your Alliance Points gained by 1%.

    Gift of Magnus - Increases your Max Magicka by 2000.

    Spell Attunement - Increases your Spell Resistance by 2310. This effect is doubled if you are afflicted with Burning, Chilled, or Concussed. Increases your Magicka Recovery by 130.

    Magicka Mastery - Reduces the Magicka cost of your abilities by 7%.

  • Orc
    " A hardy mountain people, Orcs are considered uncivilized outcasts by most races. However, they are recognized as the finest smiths in Tamriel, and Orcish arms and armor are prized by warriors and craftsmen everywhere. "


    Passive Abilities

    Craftsman - Increases your experience gain with the Heavy Armor skill line by 15%. Increases your crafting inspiration gained by 10%.

    Brawny - Increases your Max Stamina by 1000.

    Unflinching Rage - Increases your Max Health by 1000. When you deal damage, you heal for 2125 Health. This can occur once every 4 seconds.

    Swift Warrior - Increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by 258. Reduces the cost of Sprint by 12% and increases the Movement Speed bonus of Sprint by 10%.

  • Redguard
    " The Redguards of Hammerfell are humans who came to Tamriel from the lost continent of Yokuda. A dignified and martial people, most are suspicious of magic, preferring to settle conflicts with swords. "


    Passive Abilities

    Wayfarer - Increases your experience gain with the One Hand and Shield skill line by 15%. Increases the duration of any eaten food by 15 minutes.

    Martial Training - Reduces the cost of your weapon abilities by 8%. Reduces the effectiveness of snares applied to you by 15%.

    Conditioning - Increases your Max Stamina by 2000.

    Adrenaline Rush - When you deal damage, you restore 1005 Stamina. This effect can occur once every 5 seconds.

Ebonheart Pact

  • Argonian
    " A reptilian race of lizard-folk from the dark swamps of Black Marsh, to some the Argonians seem cold and uncanny. Surviving the dangers of their homeland has made them adept with both weapons and healing magic.. "


    Passive Abilities

    Amphibian - Increases your experience gain with the Restoration Staff skill line by 15%. Increases your swimming speed by 50%.

    Life Mender - Increases your healing done by 6%.

    Argonian Resistance - Increases your Max Health by 1000 and your Disease and Poison Resistance by 2310.

    Resourceful - Increases your Max Magicka and Max Stamina by 1000. When you drink a potion, you restore 3125 Health, Magicka, and Stamina.

  • Nords
    " Strong and hardy, the Nords of Skyrim are humans who are as quick to laugh as they are to fight. Most Nords prefer simplicity to sophistication, and an axe or an arrow over a spell. They are the brash, boisterous front line of the Pact; fierce warriors and expert weapon masters.. "


    Passive Abilities

    Reveler - Increases your experience gain with the Two Handed skill line by 15%. Increases the duration of any consumed drink by 15 minutes.

    Resist Frost - Increases your Max Health by 1000 and Frost Resistance by 4620.

    Stalwart - Increases your Max Stamina by 1500. When you take damage, you gain 5 Ultimate. This effect can occur once every 10 seconds.

    Rugged - Increases your Physical and Spell Resistance by 2600.

  • Dunmer (Dark Elf)
    " Proud but grim and often ruthless, the Dark elves are slow to trust but loyal to their allies. They are equally adept with blade, spell or stealth.. "


    Passive Abilities

    Ashlander - Increases your experience gain with the Dual Wield skill line by 15%. Reduces your damage taken from environmental lava by 50%.

    Dynamic - Increases your Max Magicka and Max Stamina by 1910.

    Resist Flame - Increases your Flame Resistance by 4620.

    Ruination - Increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by 258.
Imperials - Pay To Play
" Imperials can belong to any alliance, as they no longer have a hold on Cyrodiil. "


Passive Abilities

Diplomat - Increases your experience gain with the One Hand and Shield skill line by 15%. Increases your gold gained by 1%

Tough - Increases your Max Health by 2000.

Imperial Mettle - Increases your Max Stamina by 2000.

Red Diamond - Reduces the cost of all your abilities by 6%.

  • DragonKnight


    " Dragonknights are skillful master-at-arms and use the ancient Akaviri martial arts tradition of battle-spirit and wield fearsome magic. Their tanking skills are hardly challenged and they love burning their enemies to cinder. "

  • Sorcerer


    " Sorcerers can use conjuration and destruction spells to hurl lightning bolts, wield dark magic to snare and stun, and summon Daedric combat followers from Oblivion. Their damage abilities and pets allow them to experience a wide variety of content. "

  • Nightblade


    " Nightblades rely variously on stealth, blades, and speed. They thrive on conflict and misfortune, trusting to their luck and cunning to survive. Their combat abilities are hard to match and have a wide array of abilities. "

  • Templar


    " Templars call upon the powers of light and the burning sun to deal massive damage to their enemies while restoring health, magicka, and stamina to their allies. They are excellent healers, very good damage dealers and can even do both at the same time. "

  • Warden


    " Wardens are defenders of the Green, master storytellers whose nature tales become magical reality. They are powerful tanks and even stronger healers, and often utilize pets in order to achieve their maximum efficiency. "

  • Necromancer
    - Need To Purchase from In-Game Crown Store / Free with Elswyr DLC


    " Masters of the Undead, Necromancers can call upon corpses to serve as undead thralls and weave ghastly spells to both harm and heal. They also really excel at tanking and are a very powerful damage class. "
