Minicopter Guide (Beginner to Advanced)

This is a guide about everything I know about minicopters, by no means am I an expert but I have got some experience and I'd like to share some tips.

Introduction

Welcome to my guide about minicopters, by no means am I the best, but I have a decent bit of experience flying minicopters and performing tricks. If anything is incorrect, feel free to correct me in the comments and if there is anything you would like to add, feel free to comment it.

Obtaining A Minicopter

The are a few ways to obtain a minicopter (mini for short), here are a few ways:

1. Buy a minicopter from Bandit Camp

On most servers, you can buy a minicopter for 750 scrap from the Air Wolf Shop found in Bandit Camp, it is surrounded by a high wall and looks like this:




2. Steal a minicopter from someone else

Very rarely, you will come across a vacant minicopter which another player has bought and kindly left it somewhere for you to steal borrow.

These are basically the two options you have, although keep these points in mind:

• Some modded servers do not sell minicopters at Bandit Camp
  
• Some modded servers charge more scrap for a mini
  
• On some servers, you can even buy them at large barn
  
• Players usually don't like it when you borrow their minicopters, so be sneaky

Basics of using a Minicopter

Just like with all vehicles, make sure you bring some low-grade fuel to power it, this can be obtained in many ways, such as:

• Breaking red fuel barrels
  
• Craft low-grade with animal fat and cloth
  
• Kits (modded servers)

To begin using your minicopter, ensure it is located in an open space and enter the pilot seat. The difficulty of flying helicopters in Rust is the controls, these take a lot of practice to master, here are the controls:

Control	Function
W	Fly Upwards
S	Fly Downwards
A	Rotate Left
D	Rotate Right
Mouse Up	Lean Forward
Mouse Down	Lean Backward
Mouse Left	Lean Left
Mouse Right	Lean Right
Spacebar	Exit Vehicle

Here are some things to consider when understanding the controls:

• Lean Forward point the nose of your mini (the front) down and therefore moves you forward.
  
• Lean Backward does the opposite and lifts the nose up, causing you to go backwards.
  
• Lean Left & Right are useful for fixing the rotation of your helicopter.
  
• While rotating left or right, your mini will lean too, so you need to counter that using your mouse.
  
• The controls take a lot of practice, so don't worry if you take a while to learn it.

Advanced tips for flying

Here are a few tips for more advanced flying tips & tricks:

• When leaning forward or backward, you need to hold W to thrust forward or back as your leaning.
  
• Holding S does the opposite and will thrust you downwards depending on the rotation of the mini.
  
• This can be utilised to fly upside down for long periods of time, more on that in the tricks section.
  
• Over time you will understand the physics of flying in Rust and it will come to you naturally.

Tricks

I do not know many tricks, however if you do, feel free to comment them below

Upside Down

To begin flying upside down, fly quite high up. Once you are high in the air, push the nose of your helicopter down by moving your mouse upwards. As you do this, switch from your W key to your S on your keyboard so your mini is hovering upside down.

Frontflip / Backflip

To perform a flip in your minicopter, simply lean forward or back and switch from W key to S key halfway. This will reduce the amount of altitude lost. Then, finish the full rotation and switch back from S to W

Those are the only two tricks I have mastered as of now but you can find more trick tutorials on YouTube.

Servers

It is best to practice flying a minicopter on a server dedicated to flying minicopters, a couple examples I use are:

• KoalaKopters
  
• Merric Gaming

You can find more servers at https://rust-servers.net/

These servers are very helpful as they supply you with infinite minicopters and there is next to no consequence if you crash and you don't have to risk losing that mini which you stole borrowed.

you forgot the boost button, if you press and hold space the mini will increase in power at the cost of more fuel usage and less fuel efficiency.
