Practical suggestions to enable fun and minimize frustration in the current version of Drug Dealer Simulator. (March 2022)
May contain Spoilers, pre-Y2K pop culture references, and subprime and/or insensitive jokes.
Now Italian X Rays is stuck in your head, too. Bet you weren't ready for that.
Funding not actually provided by the totally fictional cold cereal lobby. But wouldn't a bowl be delicious??

The Basics
  • Clients (white on map) have a short time limit bar to complete their delivery.
    Dealers (yellow) do not.

  • Strangers (wandering NPCs) will accept as a Sample literally any drug package containing even the tiniest percentage of an illegal drug.
Single-gram packages of amp-scented powdered anything(tm) are popular for their low cost.
Whole kilograms of uncut drugs are widely considered too expensive for the purpose.

  • Pockets conceal drugs from Police Searches.

  • There are many places where one can Spray a Symbol which count for multiple sales areas.
  • Free loot items repeatedly spawn in specific, well-mapped locations.

  • Crouch after jumping to land on slightly higher things.
  • One can (awkwardly) carry a second full backpack.

  • Game features unlock by leveling up. Finish tutorial missions and complete drug deals for fast experience.
  • The right-mouse-button can be used to grab-and-scroll lists.
Police Safety
Police will try to search you at checkpoints and when they detect you while on patrol.
Arrest will happen if:
  1. Drug possession is when the police search finds any package
containing any amount of any drug which the cartel sells.
  2. Trying to evade (run away from) a police search.
  3. Being caught during police hours.
Arrest advances game time, deducts a fine from bank account money, and may confiscate (remove) all carried items.

Fugitive mode
  • Successfully evading a police search will make you a fugitive, where police may not bother with searches and go straight for the arrest.
  • Fugitive status wears off in time, or you can change your pants clothes with a certain furniture item.
What drugs?
  • Pockets conceal drug packages from police searches.
  • Police do not detect drugs in dropped backpacks.
  • Backpacks can be dropped before the police notice you.
  • Backpacks can be dropped while running away from a police search.
    • preserve contents
    • increase run-away speed

Cheap free Zone Travel for Drugs
Local vendors offer competitively priced drug travel options between every sector. Or...
  • Smaller backpacks are easy to throw over walls. A crazed running jump from a raised platform may help with larger ones.
  • The heavier stuff like bottles and cans is totally legal to carry through checkpoints.
Much of the bulkier stuff is, too.
  • In large enough packages, the illegal stuff might fit in your pockets.

  • One can only enter the sewers wearing a small or medium backpack.
  • Primary Sector A to B sewer route.
From manhole between main hideout and two towers.
Go north until you can't, then pick gate west and go west.
Take north branch (turning right) and north through second locked gate.
Curve around northwards and see the ladder to manhole outside LB's club.

  • Southeast corner of Supermarket: Parkour from dead car onto low building then over the zone wall.
Taking Drugs
  • One can set any carried drug package to a Quick Use number.
Then exit Inventory screen and press that number key to consume one gram at a time.
  • Some drug effects, such as night vision and unhelpfully slowed movement, may not occur until one takes several full-strength grams.

  • Packages can be set to a Quick Use number from the deal screen. And units of that package can then be quickly consumed by exiting to the NPC interaction screen with dialogue choices.
For 3 or more units, highly recommend return and fix package at hideout, finish delivery run, then go on a proper drug binge with short distances and interesting goings-on.
Dilutions
  • Diluting drugs reduces the duration and intensity of their effects a bit more than one would logically expect.
  • Using non-drug additives can tone down drugs whose intensity make running and situational awareness challenging at full strength.
  • When unconcerned with cost, one can dilute combine drugs with other drugs.

  • Extreme dilutions and/or complex combinations of drugs may randomize which effects are experienced upon use, if any.
  • Remember that one gram (1g) is the normal drug dose.
  • About 20% seems to be the minimum concentration to ensure that some of each drug's effects are felt with each gram taken.
Pockets
  • Reminder: Drugs stored in pockets will usually not be found during police searches.
  • Stacked packages will no longer match their stack upon partial use, and get bounced somewhere else. Single-gram, single-use packages cannot do this.
  • Place the first single gram (1g) package in pocket and set to a Quick Use number before adding the rest.
  • Or make one big package for personal use.
Stimulants
Stimulants ostensibly boost athletic abilities like running speed, jumping distance, and backpack-full-o-drugs throwing power!
  • The raised pitch of NPC voices suggest stimulants may also increase the simulation's running speed, countering speed advantage and making timing trickier.
  • Mobility-impairing drug effects can often be counteracted with stimulants.
  • Stimulants provide noticeable effects at relatively low doses.
Psychedelics
I highly recommend unlocking the Psychedelic Gang for the fun interesting drug effects.
  • One can take several full-strength grams to experience each drug's full range of distractions.
  • Including a small dose of a well-chosen hallucinogen enhances the entertainment value of any drug mix with dramatic audio-visual effects.
  • Being the least expensive substances the cartel sells, these drugs have a somewhat lower profit potential.
Drug effects often persist when one Loads or Starts a New Game without fully exiting the program.
Equipment
  • Mixing trays cause tiny loss-errors in mixes.
  • Dryers cause losses in acetone mixes.
  • Large lab mixers, crystalisers, and mortars process without error.

  • Coffee Grinders are fast, great for cheap substances where tiny loss is tolerable.
  • Substances do not need to be powdered to add them into a wet (acetone) mix.

  • Metal containers are the top-tier substance container which hold entire kilograms.
Keeping a few extras handy can prevent (or enable) crazy package juggling.
  • Container footprints are not circular. If they won't fit where you think they should,
    rotate 'em a little.

  • Grow lamps constantly illuminate a work area.
Some tasks require flat workspace.
  • Weed harvest and pill packages require flat workspace to place and process.
  • Laying out orders to resize them becomes necessary when sales volume increases.
Shelves
Shelves are a cheap way to create small strips of workspace.
  • Shelves move any 'spice rack' of substance containers above a workspace.
However, extremely high shelf placement reduces the visible hit-box of packages, low-lying equipment, and the shelf itself (necessary to start work station mode). Not a huge issue with containers, which are relatively tall.
  • Shelves can also be placed level with, or below tables and other work areas.
  • Modern shelves are big (deep) enough to fit a laptop and other equipment.
    Mount seldom-used equipment almost anywhere.
Feng Shui Put Stuff Where You can Hit It with the Mouse Cursor
  • One can drag-and-drop substances between containers and equipment with the cursor.
  • Other selection and context-menu techniques still require using the cursor to select items.
Consider the path one's mouse pointer (cursor) must travel when laying out a harmonious work space.
  • Infrequently-used items should be under that cursor infrequently.
  • Clutter (target overlap) adds subtle difficulty and frustration to any task.
  • Increasing process efficiency by duplicating equipment requires more labor.
  • A misalignment or slight gap works well as a landmark in a row of identical units.
Kitchen Laboratory Tricks
Combining Separate Mixes
Why packages won't stack, mixes won't fit in the same container, and customers won't accept orders broken into multiple packages.
  • The substance the customer ordered must be the first ingredient added to the mix (after acetone, if applicable).
  • The mix ingredients absolutely must be added to the mixing device in the exact same order.

  • When combining or stacking a mix, there is a minuscule amount of flexibility regarding the ratios of substances within the mix. Like, just barely enough to let most mixes made in the freebie mixing tray stack.

  • Customers will only accept drug packages with fully identical names including capitalization.
  • When in doubt, combine the packages in a mixer.
Cutting Drugs
Cutting is an industry term for diluting drugs with an inexpensive substance to improve profits.
In broad strokes, 75% is a safe minimum percentage (and I really should not have to say this) unless that other 25% is deadly poison.
  • A small amount of a more potent drug may also be added to enhance its effects.
  • Highly addictive drugs like fentanyl can be fatally toxic at small fractions of a gram. A single gram of fentanyl must be mixed with a large number of grams of other substances to achieve non-fatal dilution.
Preparing a mixture of highly addictive drugs and something less toxic allows one to make much smaller batches.

  • No matter the effects, customers will become upset if they receive less than a certain percentage of the drug they purchased.
  • This percentage varies on a per-customer basis and is strongly influenced by sales zone. Click on clients in the laptop and look at their current expectations bar.

Naming Substances
  • Substance names can be set during the Apply Mix step of mixing equipment.

Container Name Cloning
  • When two identical but differently-named substances are added to one container,
The name of the substance already in the container wins. See the pop-up warning.
  • One can therefore fix an accidentally-misnamed batch by adding it to a container of identical correctly-named substance.
  • Turn those dusty stored early-game small containers into a happy little spice rack of named-substance backups.
Or Package-bomb some unused workspace with your favorites.

Silly Marihuana Names
  • Place a single gram of cartel-bought/found marihuana in a container, then add dried home-grown marihuana and accept the warning to remove the silly names.
  • Reverse the process to produce more units of your favorite silly name.

  • Or use an acetone rig to name a dried marihuana mix whatever you desire;
just be certain to finish it in a dryer (not crystaliser) to return it to smoke-able, and sale-able condition. I can't seem to get weed processed with acetone to stack with normal weed. Seems the cost of artistic expression.
  • Allow me to demonstrate. Acetone, Weed - CRASH -
Oh no, whoops some addictive stuff got in the mixer! Again.
How fortunate I was only making a small batch, so I cannot accidentally give it to my customers who constantly order huge amounts of weed. For uh unrelated umm reasons.

Wet Mix Test
  • When combining multiple batches of a single wet (Acetone) mix, place 1 gram from each finished liquid mixing vessel into a single dryer / crystaliser / jar. If there is no warning, the batches are identical and will combine after drying.
Unless you prefer the dramatic tension of waiting for everything to dry first.
Why I like a Wet Mix Size of 240 units
The crystaliser only holds 250 units, and acetone takes one of those units. 240 has lots of factors to simplify scaling the recipe. Here's a Table!

Flipping A Kilogram
An illustrative hypothetical. ... or is it?
  1. Place a kilogram of product adjacent to a partially filled metal container of the same substance.
  2. Add that kilogram into the metal container.
  3. This leaves behind a package with the precise amount formerly in the container.
  4. Package the kilo and pick up the remainder package.

Container Emptying Trick
Saves inventory space over 'making change' by summing up various smaller packages.
  1. Make the biggest package you can from the container to be emptied.
  2. Place the package nearby.
  3. Add units back into its source container to bring that source container up to a round (package-able) number.
  4. Make one or more big packages and pick up the remainder package.
This gets easier when one becomes familiar with the package denominations.
ShadyComm Desktop (the laptop)
  • Clicking the “You” icon in the top left of other ShadyComm screens quickly and quietly returns one back to the Desktop screen.
  • One can re-click the active contact's name to pop up the message dialog.

  • Mouse-over sales zones to see their unlock requirements.
  • Try Right Click-and-dragging lists.

  • At the bottom of the Desktop, a bar shows your Reputation alongside your current drug Prices. Not super accurate because it combines data from multiple sales areas and drugs. More like a Check Engine light than a Fuel Gauge.

Drug Offer (?)
This list of drugs is located at the top of the ShadyComm Desktop screen.
For each drug, one can EDIT drug prices or DISABLE receiving new orders of that drug.

EDIT (Set Drug Prices)
  • Clients and dealers pay the drug price set when they sent the order to you.
  • If the price is set too high at the moment they place an order, they will order fewer units.
  • If increasing a price doesn't cause a warning, I see no negative impact on orders.
Therefore, ratcheting prices upwards seems like a no-brainer.
DISABLE (Drug Orders)
Disabling drugs prevents you from receiving any new orders from clients or dealers.
  • While disabled, that drug may still be purchased from the cartel, and already-received orders accepted and completed.
  • The HUD pop-up regarding 'consider expanding your offer' seems to indicate a missed order for a disabled drug.
Tab Screens
These screens are connected. You can swap between them without closing the menu / container.
Inventory
  • Hold ALT to move one unit at a time.
  • Hold CTRL to pop up the quantity-picker.
  • Double-click to move items between containers.

  • Hold right mouse button on empty patch of container grid (or garbage) to grab-scroll.
Character
  • Bars displaying Exposition Factor (police raid risk) and Experience (to next level) are found here.
Skills
  • Quick Learner pays off big eventually,
but an early investment in other skills can make ranking up much more fun.

  • Stamina makes running deliveries more pleasant.
  • Salesman makes future orders significantly increase in size.

  • Pockets secretly hold a whole kilo or ten 1g samples. Want more?
  • Running simplifies successful police evasion.

  • Stealth makes police less aware.
  • Illusionist does very little. Successfully avoiding drug detection during a search remains a disappointingly "slight % chance" even with the skill at maximum.
Organizer
The Work Station on-screen task list only shows the first (oldest) dozen (12) tasks.
The Organizer screen shows a complete, scroll-able list of Tasks and Jobs.
  • Note that the order of Tasks and Sales here is reversed from the on-screen task list.
Newest items appear at the top of the Organizer.
Actual Spoilers
The game has been updated and re-balanced many times. Check the date on information!
Regarding Loot Spawns
Spray cans also spawn on the ground near graffiti.
Additional loot items are found in random locations outdoors, most frequently close to the overhead train tracks.
Dumpsters become empty when Police Hours end.

Overdoses
Review your overdosed clients' orders.
  • Are extreme client quality expectations causing fatalities?
If not, that drug mix might be too strong.
  • I believe that a good mix should not kill normal customers.
Amusing presentation aside, "What year was that recipe published?"
  • Remember there will be larger orders on weekends.
A mix isn't safe until it's Weekend Safe.

A Simple Solution to Overdoses: Disable the Hard Drugs.
I disabled sales of Meth, Coke, Heroin, and DMT because the overdoses were bumming me out.
  • This simplified my supply logistics and gave me time to experiment and explore between orders. A fancy way of saying I received noticeably fewer orders.
  • In certain sales areas which strongly favor the disabled drugs, I did not receive any orders at all. As an alternative to the hard drugs, I was be able to get some orders for the Psychedelic gang drugs. Or get lucky enhancing an infrequent marihuana order.

Safe Mixes
Blah (revised Blue Amp) 20 Blah: 15 amp plus 4 baking soda, and 1 gas station ibuprofen.
Sweet Amp (Mix by Luromed) 1000 Sweet Amp: 800 amp plus 120 sugar, and 80 viagra.
Silent E (Mix by Silent1) 900 Silent E: 660 ecstasy plus 150 viagra, and 90 sugar.

Mob Mixes by Ratio
These ratios should work with almost any diluting-type substance. I switched to this approach after having problems with more complicated recipes using a slightly lower percentage of product.
Keiji
Keiji's gang will accept a mix ratio of 60%: a 3 over 2 ratio.
12 over 8 gives 20 units, the required package size.
120 over 80 is 200 units or 10 packages using easy math.
I like 144 over 96 for 240 total because it is the biggest even batch of 20g packages which fit in a crystaliser. Plus, the numbers to chop 4 units out of 100g bags and add 144 units both use number keys above the left hand.

La Ballena
La Ballena's gang will accept a mix ratio of 72%: an 18 over 7 ratio.
36 over 14 gives 1 (one) 50 unit package.
720 over 280 gives a full kilogram of 20(twenty) 50 unit packages.
I make many 720g packages to drop in a lab mixer, then top it up with powdered anything(tm).

No, the weed's not laced, it's... imported. 'New Acetone mix' means 'top shelf.'
Aggressive Intoxicated Individual on the station? Sounds like a solid customer. Didn't I see a ladder somewhere?

Haunted Ecstasy
The break-up dealer trade is notorious for its luridly exaggerated and preposterously fictional storytelling.
Indoor loot spawns on box stacks become permanently occupied by small packages of what appear to be ecstasy pills lacking a hit-box.

Some party kid caught a batch of face-melting home-brew crystal back in the late Big Hair.
Doctors fixed up the face, but not the swallow- and snort- parts.
Slobbers in the bags and sucks out the mush like a fly eating. (slurping noises and cackling)
Goes on the nod and leaves soggy bags on boxes. The smell is viscerally emetic. Not even a junkie will touch 'em. (retching noises)

I heard they died of an ecstasy overdose and their weirdo artist family
dummies up fake drugs and epoxies them in the usual spots.
Woo--oooh! Spooky and like Haunted pills. (scared noises)

That seismic event could have jostled them into a parallel dimension. Or it could be a trap in the TRAP - Boom! A prank with hidden cameras. The cops with agents watching. Agents look like normal people then they put things in my teeth. I've seen you before. You're one of them. (para- noises)

The BIRDS, I tell you!! The. Birds. (unintelligible squawking noises)
Advice
Mellow Greetings.

Size Matters
  • I prefer making batches which produce an even number of units to make mistakes obvious.
  • Packing your equipment absolutely full, and putting containers between process steps to catch the extra units, is also an option.
  • As long as your system is consistent, product should stack at the package-dispensing end.
  • Seriously, do whatever whatever pattern or freestyle appeals to you.
Figuring out how to make those ideas work can be immensely satisfying.

When to Save
  • Saving the moment you enter the hideout is a popular choice for those prone to mixing errors or impulsive decisions.
  • Forgetful folks can water all the plants, tidy up inventory, and finish mixing batches before saving.
  • Saving with an inventory full of measured packages ready to go out the door is always smart.
Accepting the Client Orders after saving is tricky but maximizes order delivery time.
  • I take pains to avoid saving a game with Accepted orders. Both for technical reasons and because I forget them or mess them up.

Abstract
  • Leave a buck in it for the next guy. It's a single player game.
Guess who the next guy is gonna be. o_O

  • Why do birds suddenly appear? Punctuated accurately. A question rather than a reference to the Carpenter's song. Also, "squawk!"
  • What's the hurry, hotrod? Only living clients can continue to purchase drugs.

  • I humbly suggest that a simulation would be the ideal safe place to take some modest risks. Ignoring all alternative strategies to achieve perfect efficiency turns any multifaceted simulation into a set of linear tasks, or a job.
  • Waiting for the inevitable never felt like "Winning" to me. Probably why I prefer sims and sandboxes to on-rails stories. (hits bong) Players arguing and fighting with other players is what the robots want!.

MAD SCIENCE
Mad Science is not about magical talent or easy success. It’s about rolling your own proof. Proving something new requires one to take risks. Proving the validity of something old requires running trials which include expected failure states.
The actual experience of Mad Sci boils down to stubbornly grinding away at mistakes and failure to forensically deduce useful parameters and critical thresholds. These suggest entirely new strategies in much the same fashion finding money on the ground suggests the spontaneous purchase of fast food.

One must abandon routine and procedure to take risks and make mistakes. Intentionally doing things expected to fail can be challenging to those with rigorous logical minds or veterans of academia. I find it helps to get in character.
Wet my fingers and mess up my hair. Warm up by repeatedly saying, “Aha,” increasing in volume from a normal speaking voice to a proper triumphant cackle. Now hold onto that energy and really emote into a, “Good! It failed like I expected.” You can renew this energy with the occasional, “Yes. Yes.” Feel yourself knowing better than those fools at the university and cowardly government regulators.
If cryptozoology on living animals starts to appeal, you have gone too far and should back down the intensity a bit. While lab coats are impossible to stain, they still require laundering. If you experience a monologue that lasts over three hours, eat something un-caffeinated.

Mistake Farming
Some mistakes yield more information than others. What makes a good mistake?
  1. Known and Repeatable. Record sufficient details to repeat the mistake exactly.
  2. Change one (1) variable for each experiment. This greatly increases the likelihood of creating useful information.
  3. Similar to working strategy. If 25% works, trying 20% and 30% makes more sense than 10% or 70%.
  4. Plausible theory. Composing an idea into words to write it down or say it out loud often triggers a strong intuitive response.
Once you “accidentally” succeed, remember to smile because you have discovered something. Feel free to cackle. Unleash those science skills to further narrow your discovery down. Share a celebratory moment with your hench-pet.

Goals
Satisfaction can be garnered through many activities.
  • Play. Simulations exist to try new, different, and weird things. Cultivate clients, kill 'em off, or ghost 'em. Build your dream lab or live in squalor. Gobble drugs constantly or slightly less often. What? You give drugs you found on the ground to clients?
  • Experiment. Why worry about doing what works when you can figure out how to make your idea work? The only alternative to seeing what one expects, is learning something. Unlike information, mistakes can only occur in the current conditions.
Therefore, understanding one's mistakes is an excellent way to learn when conditions are different from prior information. Or if you made a Freudian typo.
  • Action. Finishing discrete units of work may yield genuine feelings of closure. This can be beneficial to those who engage in continuous, endless tasks.
Having many tasks to complete, gives one many ways to achieve absorbing stimulation. Additional challenge may be found in achieving many goals simultaneously.
  • Coordination.Orchestrating supply runs, deliveries, mixing, packaging, and advertising requires planning. Such planning is the juicy technical side of Business Management, called Operations. Compensation differences exist between positions which perform this function. An assistant Manager earns a bit less than a Chief Operations Officer.
  • Accumulate. What the heck? How did a Dalek get in here? Shoo! Probably attracted by the business jargon.
The acquisition of material wealth allows one to purchase goods and services. Expand territory, subcontract dealers, cultivate top-tier clients, fill those big mob orders fast and often.
  • Thrift Itself. Some folks enjoy efficiency and saving money and more efficiency. They groove on riding every little thing to its absolute min/max. A question: How can you be certain you are living on the edge, if you don't push on it occasionally?

The included levity appears sufficient to make one read the whole dang thing. :p
The only way to see if the mirth level was sufficient to make the concepts memorable, is to play the sim.

Back again? You forget something? Mua ha haaaa.
Oh. Seriously? Yeah, yeah. I've got a box of forgotten sunglasses and hats going over there.

Be well.

Alt-Tab Has Buddies
  • Ctrl-Alt-Up/down moves focus between workspaces.
  • Hold shift as well to drag the current window with you to that workspace.
  • Windows_key plus arrow-keys quickly resizes and aligns the current window. Up and down toggle maximize and restore.
Left and right alignment make window take up half the screen, allowing practical side-by-side viewing of any two programs on each workspace.
    Using shortcut keys.

Yes. Yes, there are many different backpacks and bags.
One of the first tutorial missions suggests you grab the (small) 'Sexy Red Backpack' from the starting apartment. I personally find it amusing to quickly acquire a medium backpack and leave the red backpack where it spawns indefinitely.

After acquiring any bag, you will note printed at the bottom of the screen, ' HOLD B Throw backpack' which allows you to throw your backpack.
This can be used to throw the backpack/bag over a wall, walk through a checkpoint without drugs, and then retrieve the backpack full of drugs.
I also found situations where one can throw a heavy backpack up onto a platform and then much more successfully parkour upwards while unencumbered.

no
sorry.
My best suggestion is to place a container near the packages. Maybe walk your character around to close the cursor gap further.
I don't know why you would have many packages to pick up. I do that myself to get ahead of the huge amount of business on the weekend. I keep folding-money denominations of grams so I can quickly 'add' a bit of them to the nearby container, taking them down to the customer's exact required gram-weight.
Combining partial-deliveries leads to mistakes, which leads to worrying about mistakes instead of watching out and getting pinched. Or worse, a bad customer review.

is their a way click at multibl packages from same stuff on table and take them with one click in 1 container?.

UPDATE: one can become more adroit at being amusing and humorous,
without being personally insulting.
It simply requires practice. If one is so inclined.

For the long run, you would suggest going with Keiji? my current playthrough with Ballena is annoying, seeing the amount ordered over time doesn't feel right.
