Straits of Blood 2025 - Operation SANDSTORM

Description
Straits of Blood: Operation SANDSTORM (Beta version 0.4; CMO DB492, 1147.38 ) 03-04 Jan 2025
Western Coalition Forces and the Middle East Coalition vs Iran.
With Iran only months, if not weeks, away from becoming a nuclear-armed power, the US, UK and Australia muster their forces for an air and missile strike against Iranian nuclear facilities and other infrastructure. However, first of all, the coalitions must survival an Iranian onslaught consisting of hundreds of cruise and ballistic missiles against bases and oil facilities throughout the Joint Operating Area (JOA). Using brand-new and experimental UAVs, Fifth Gen platforms and EB-1 / EB-2 aircraft from the secretive High-Technology Aerospace Weapons Centre, AKA Dreamland, it is your mission to stop Iran's nuclear programme dead in its tracks.

--------------------------------
Notes:
This scenario is (another) demonstration of "mission creep" - what started off as a game where you defend your airbase has turned into a heavy Iranian missile strike and Coalition counter-attack. I'd love to have included naval play and satellites but I feel this scenario is already on the meatier side. I'd certainly recommend implementing resource saving measures - turning off Range Rings for all but the Selected Unit for example unless your PC is particularly powerful. Turning off weapon calcuations and similar settings can also help. Once the action begins, they'll be about 20-30mins of slow gameplay but then the scenario will speed up once the missile strikes cease.
You will be heavily penalised for manned aircraft losses, but UAV losses will cost you very little. If the Al Udeid CAOC is destroyed, the game will end (as you'll be dead). Despite my efforts, the game may start with some of your units set to "WEAPONS HOLD". I can guarantee that you'll want to alter this before the shooting starts! You should play with Special Messages turned on.
This scenario is still a work progress so any feedback is appreciated.

I am currently playing this one and really enjoying it. Thanks to the author you must have poured your soul into this, I didn't realize the Iranians had so many ballistic missiles of all shapes and sizes. Thank you for your work.

Unfortunately, this one is unplayable for me. I have a decently capable machine, but it can't handle this scenario. I imagine I'm not an outlier. Maybe consider spacing out the amount of missiles and making the scenario a bit longer so you can get a similar effect but not overwork the average players computer? Just something to think about.

This is long, so I'll make multiple posts.
Just finished the scenario. I can tell a lot of work went in to it. The first 30 minutes or so were crazy. I had to switch over to a beefier PC to run it lol. Dealing with massive swarm attacks of missiles and drones was interesting. The amount of aircraft the Iranians throw at you is roughly the entire Iranian air force plus a little extra haha. It wasn't so clear at first, but from what I gathered this is some kind of alternate time-line story based on a novel (I had to look up the EB-1).

Some possible ideas for the next version:

-Have some of the planes armed with the cluster bomb JSOW to better deal with the TELs.
-Add planes with ARMs other than the Growlers.
-Add longer endurance EW craft like the EC-37B.
-You noted that you don't want to get in to Naval stuff, but maybe 1 Ticonderoga near Bahrain to represent some SAM/Land attack of US Navy assets.

-A second CAP, or surge of defending Middle East Coalition fighters closer to the shore that triggers when Iranian weapons enter friendly airspace. RED ALERT, everybody scramble!

Lastly,
A couple things with the missile bunkers. I know you addressed some of this in the side briefing. I would guess that a good amount Iran's launch facilities are known by US intelligence, though plenty would not be known. I am guessing this is intentional, but in the scenario they are impossible to detect even as they fire with a drone overhead. With a set amount of time and strike craft, (taking them out costs a lot of bunker busters!) I think you should give the player an option to strike these targets, even if it gets you no points. It is frustrating to see a trickle of missiles coming out of a mountain with nothing you can do about it.
Maybe a split between auto detected, detectable and few undetectable deep in Iran.

All in all a good "What if?" scenario. Curious to see where you go with it.

As mentioned further down the comments thread, you'll require a (Beta) version of CMO not yet released via Steam. You've got two options:
1 - Wait for Matrix Games to release an Official update via Steam.
2 - Use the Beta update (1147.42) released on the Matrix Games Forums to update your game.

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=5146181

This update also apparently increases the games performance in certain situations too, but I haven't had chance to test it in this scenario yet.

I GET A DATABASE ERROR IF I START THE SCENARIO

You should have seen what it was like before I approximately halved the amount of missiles 😂

Great scenario but it lags so hard

Unfortunately there's no picture of an EB-1C Vampire out there so I had to make do with the B-1R.
The screenshot is from a game that I used to play regularly - Strike Fighters 2 by Thirdwire. Unfortunately, it's been somewhat abandoned and only the community over at Combat Ace and similar sites are keeping the game going. The SF series is / was meant to be in the "sim lite" category between Ace Combat at one end and DCS at the other.
