Prester John - Achievement Guide

A guide on how to get the Prester John achievement. Requires the old gods DLC

Introduction

Prester John - As a Catholic, have a border with Miaphysite Abyssinia.

To do this we will playing as Chief Haesteinn of Nantes in the year 867, so fire up Ironman mode and lets get to it.

NOTE: If any of these conditions happen, just restart.

• You get declared on by any major power
  
• Chief Haesteinn of Nantes dies
  
• If any other country takes any of the counties that are used in this guide

NOTE: Ambitions or council management is not really needed nor does it influence the play much. The only thing that you shouldn't do is try to convert your local religion in Nantes to Norse as it may be helpful later. Also if a catholic country sends a missionary to you, accept it as we need to turn catholic later on.

From Nantes to Sardinia

To get this achievement we need to get within diplomatic range of Trinkitat, so we shall begin island hopping our way over there.
Firstly declare a conquest war on Cagliari for Cagliari, raise your levy and embark your armies onto your event spawn boats. Sail over to the Mediterranean sea and land your troops on Arborea and then walk them over to Cagliari, after you land your troops sail your navy back over to Nantes. Once you have won the war dismiss your levy, its now time to set our eyes on Crete.

From Sardinia to Crete

Now declare a county conquest on Hafsid Emirate for the county of Chandax. Raise your levy and put them on your navy and sail over to Caliagri to pick up your event spawn troops, now sail over to the Sea of Crete and land your army on Al-Hanim, Again once this is done sail your navy back to Nantes. Now Wait for your moral to recover and destroy the Hafsid Emirates army, seige Chandax and win the war. After the war is won dismiss your levy and move onto the next part.

From Crete to Nubia

Now we need a border to Abyssinia, to do this we need to declare a county conquest on Trinkitat for Trinkitat (If Trinkitat no longer borders Abyssinia declare a conquest onto a bordering county). Raise your levy and collect your armies and sail the over to the Nile delta, Disembark your troops and have them walk over to Trinkitat. After the army is destroyed and the seige is won all you need to do now is become a Catholic.

From Norse to Catholic

Now that you have a border with Abbysinia you need to convert. If you have had missionaries sent to your court you can convert to Catholicism in the decisions menu, If not either wait for a missionary, swear fealty to a Catholic, raid catholic a county and take a female concubine or accumulate enough piety to convert to local religion.

Congratulations, you should now have the Prester John achievement.

In the "Third Crusade" bookmark, start as the Count of Hayya and immediately swear fealty to the King od Jerusalem, then unpause. Once they accept, go to the Intrigue tab and select "Convert to Liege's Religion" from the Decisions menu. Note: you have to restart if given the Zealous trait.

Also raiding a catholic county and taking a woman prisoner then making her your concubine gives you the option to convert.

There's an easier way to do it. Just play as Abyssynia in later period and get vassalised by the crusaders.
