1. Introduction
Sprays are a in-game feature that allow players to place any picture or GIF they want on any flat or modeled surface. Sprays are considered digital graffiti as they can be "sprayed" on walls, ceilings and floors Instantly. The default key to spray a image is "T" on computer.

Sprays as of currently are disabled on official valve TF2 servers. Even though you can see the spray that you placed other players will not. This was most likely done by valve to protect younger players from adult material such as pornography and gore. However Sprays are enabled on almost every available TF2 community server.

Sprays are always disabled by default inside the Advanced Options --> Miscellaneous Options tab within the main menu. To enable it just simply turn the setting back on.

This is a Example of a spray that was placed on a wall.

2. How to Enable Sprays In-game
Step 1: The easiest way to enable sprays in Team Fortress 2 is to find and click on Advanced Options from the main menu bar.

Step 2: Scroll down and find Miscellaneous Options and then un-check the option that says disable sprays.

Congrats you can now see sprays in-game.

For People Who Don't Play Team Fortress 2:

Make Sure the Developer Console is enabled in Options --> Keyboard --> Advanced. if it is use the ~ on your keyboard. Once the prompt pops up simply paste or type cl_spraydisable 0 into the command bar.
3. How To Add Sprays Into Your Game
These steps i'm going to show for TF2 also apply to any other Source Engine game.

Step 1: Find the image or GIF you would like to use. This file must be a jpg, bmp, tga or vtf file. IT CANNOT BE A PNG, JPEG, OR RAW GIF FILE.

Step 2: Once you have the image you want put the file inside the install directory of the game itself. The default install location for TF2 is Program Files (x86) --> Steam --> steamapps --> common --> Team Fortress 2 If you cant find the Steam folder then that means you installed steam elsewhere do the same process above but from where you installed it instead.

Step 3: Now launch your game and on the main menu locate the Options button.

Step 4: Once inside options goto Multiplayer --> Import Spray.

Step 5: If you did the previous steps correctly you will see your image inside your game file. Simply click it and hit open.

Congrats you can now place your spray inside any community server. If you would like to add another image or GIF just do the steps again. No need to delete old sprays.
4. Sprays and Their Uses
Sprays are not always used for the haha funny memes. They can actually be very useful or sometimes damaging to other players. Their are multiple uses for sprays which include.

Advertising.
Entertainment.
Distractions.
Warnings.
Etc.

More "useful" information is that sprays cant be more the 512 kb's or they will simply not show up.
Sprays are kept in the steam cloud so you wont lose them again.
gaben knows about your gay furry porn spray ;/\ .
If you run a config you have to have mp_decals set to above 1 to work. (I recommend having it set to 9.)
5. Different Types Of Sprays
In any Source Engine game the three main types of sprays you will encounter are:

1. Basic Image Spray.
2. Animated Spray.
3. Faded Spray.
  • The Basic Image spray is what it says. It can literately be anything! Their is nothing special about this type of spray only that its the most common.
Here are some examples of sprays.

  • The animated spray is just a fancy name for a GIF. The only thing special about these are that they can display up-to 20 frames.
Here are some examples of animated sprays. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • The faded spray is very unique in that they are able to detect how far you are from the spray itself. The distace you are from it the more the image changes.
Here are some examples of a faded spray
