You have a chance to skillup extraction 2% from every tree. The most I've ever seen out of a tree is 3 pieces of wood per strike, so that's 18 pieces of wood worth all of 18 gold, unless you're making tons of weapons (which also require skins and other things you may not have on hand without buying from traders).
Is it then worth it to risk losing some wood off trees early to get those free 2% skillups, saving that 30 gold that you would have to pay to Dack?
I've gotten my extraction up to 64% (I spent to 30% with Dimass because his price was so much lower) just chopping trees (and reloading the save if I don't get an extraction skillup). Because I just don't want to sit around grinding weapons for gold.
+ 15% for "free"
1. Murk after bringing moss from the gold mine (+ 5% extraction)
2. Rack in the Lewko hut in the Royal Mine (+ 3% production)
3. Digger in the Gold Mine after bringing an apple (+ 2% extraction)
4. A farmer chopping a fallen tree at the eastern gate of Silbach (+ 5% production)
or
5. Tollek, when we let him dig the Nikolta deposit (+ 7% production)
but not complete the mine task without rebellion (death of the miners)
