Hacker`s Guide to Madness (Save-file Modding/infinite cash&imptints/Cheats)

This series of guide is all about changing your arena save-file or changing the in-game files for more content & enjoyment.
This guide is specific to Arena Mode.

{{Let me be honest with you. This part 1 is all about how to CHEAT in the game.

I was very cautious about uploading this information before the devs told me its ok.




Just know that CHEATING will take away a lot of the fun of the game. There will be no journey, no new findings, which is the exact opposite of an 'adventure'.

So, if you haven`t played the 1~3 playthrough of arena mode, I would suggest to turn back and do that first. That`s what the devs have prepared for you. That is what this is game is willing to give you.

If you have seen the end, or doesn`t care what the game has to offer...
You are very welcome here.

Just know this. The improvements and growth you get from using cheats are not the same as the growth which are earned by pouring hours of effort.

So don`t brag about it on the community as if you got it legitimately.}}

[Step 1. Finding your save file]

Thankfully, the devs have taught us how to find our save files!!
(Actually it is 'only' pinned discussion on this MPN steam community, so you can see the original yourself)

For anyone curious, your save files are located at:

Users\*PC username*\AppData\LocalLow\Gibbing Tree\Madness Project Nexus\Careers

To find it(because it is hidden), Press "Windows + R" and type %AppData% it will take you reach "AppData\Roaming", just go back to AppData and then to LocalLow.


If you followed uncle Funkle`s words, your files will look like this.
As we are gonna look for an 'Arena' savefile, open 'Arena' file.


OK. Seems like there are our save files!

Don`t worry if you have only one or two.
I just have 10 individual save files that`s all.

First of all, make a

BACK-UP

file!!!
Just copy and paste them somewhere safe on your computer.

If you somehow mess up the procedure and corrupt a file, it is nearly impossible to retrieve it!


Next, we need to know what save file we want to edit. There are '3 ways' to verify your individual save.

1. Put away a certain save file and restart the game. If the save file you removed will be missing from the game(you can put it back into the original folder to load it again).
2. Check the individual save file by looking into the numbers(ex. cash amount) by using a 'save editor'(you need to remember some certain numbers correctly)
3. Learn 4 years in college about computer engineering to understand computer language.

If you have successfully found your save-file, lets go over to the next step!

[Step.2 Make sure the save file is 'Editable']

First, there are some recommended conditions for you to edit your file.

1. [Character should have beaten 'The Pilot Episode' mission] : This is because you need to see what numbers you need to change to edit cash.(beating 'The Pilot Episode' on tough will always give you 495 on your first victory)
2. [Character has very few weapons&armor in the inventory and has no or few hirelings] : You have to scroll all the way down to find the right ones. Even having 1~2 weapons or hirelings forces you to scroll 10~20 times more to find your right value.


Save file like this is very ideal for editing.
Don`t worry if your character is way above level 3, as the procedure is nearly the same(just a little more complicated).

Save files that have slower progress than this is very likely to be corrupted, as the game has not found any cash you are currently holding.

[Step 3. Loading your save into the 'Save Editor']

By entering the site above, you will get 6~7 viruses on your computer, your credit card number stolen, your privacy taken away, and you will go to prison for the rest of your life........

....Actually no. This site is clean.

Entering the site will show you a screen that looks like this.

The save file we just found earlier?
Drag and put your save file into the box.


Then, tada~
All of your save file's values will come up on the site!

[Step.4 Changing the 'Right' value]

Now it depends on which value you want to edit.

You want to change your cash?
You want to change your highest wave count?
You want more imprints?

It is totally up to you, really.
Just remember these simple principles.

1. The game will always check if {{your 'current' value}} = ((your 'history' value})) : What this means is that you need to find and match 2~3 values of the same kind.

2. Values have limits : Don`t get too greedy. Edit it safely.

3. Each value has its own purpose : The concept is very simple.

[Cash Value = To register cash amount]
[Kills Value = To register kill amount]
[Token Value = To register token amount]
[Imprint Value = To register imprint amount]

4. Take your time. Relax. : This takes quite some time if this is your first time doing it. Just know you can make mistakes here and there. If you have a back-up, there is nothing to worry about now.

Since we already talked about that $495, let us edit those exact values into other numbers.
Let me see... since I need some luck, I think 77777 will be great.


Next you should download the edited save file by clicking the blue box at the bottom of the editing page.

Put the new save file into the original arena save file location, and 'OVERWRITE' it.

If you`re done, lets start the game to check if it worked as planned.



Voila!! Seems it worked just fine!

Just know that the game will keep on looking out if the numbers are right.
Because of this, sometimes the numbers can become a 'negative' rather than a 'positive'.

For example $+1000000 cash can become $-1000000.
Don`t worry. Just edit all the negative numbers back to positive and you`ll get your money back.

Ah yes. I can hear little kids screaming with glee... from hundreds of miles away.

"I was forced to eat 4~5 hours of pain and frustration to get one imprint... BUT NOW CAN I GET IMPRINT FOR FREE???"

Yes. You can.

Though the procedure is a bit harder.

You need to find these exact two values.


The first value is around the 'chars_Core > 0', and the second value is at the bottom.
Make sure these two numbers are the same.

I edited my number into 998, just so I can make it evenly next game.

So, what happens?


Voila!! It works, of course.

Now finish that game and you`ll get those sweet imprints like normal.
(The reason I`m not telling you how to apply imprints to stats right away, is because I wish you people to have at least respect for the developers)

[Caution : Don`t brag that you have a high imprint count because of this. Its usually pretty clear if one cheated or not. If you ignore this, I will find you. And I will mock you.]

I would strongly suggest clearing the 'Fickle Friends' missions(contract mission) before trying this out.

((Seems like the token numbers can be glitched out if you try to do it before meeting Fencer))

Changing 'Token' value. Here we go again.

Process is same like the two previous ones.
You need to change two values too.


Make sure 'chars_core > 0 > myTokens' value is SMALLER than 'chars_Core > 0 > myTokens_Caree' value.

Same as always, don`t put an extremely high number. 400 ~ 500 is enough.

Let`s try 400 and 500 for each value.



See? It works.

About the guide

As you know, this guide is divided into part 1 and 2.
Its a team project of me and 'Explo'.

my solution to reverting my ill gotten imprints was to open my save file on the website on another computer

also the modified version of my save file appears empty when I try and use a hex editor

Probably, you already know this one. However, to the children, who always scream : "Hey ! That's unfair ! ! ! You have to buy weapons by yourself !". Almost all the cool weapon are closed at the begging, and getting unlocked upon beating missions and contracts.

It may also seem like your allies are your strength, but, with the 98%, on the "Nexus Core Facility" mission, they already will be dead after the third room, and you only leave with the mercenaries ( those people, who you pay during the game, by holding "Enter" during the round )
