Waiting to obtain the game serial key from Steam. FIX - 2 methods AND STEAM DECK Activation

This guide shows two methods to get this game to work if you see "Waiting to obtain the game serial key from Steam."
As well as steam deck activation through the default desktop mode Linux.
Tested on Windows10 Home, someone says it works on Windows11 and KDE Plasma 5 Linux.

The Problem

The Solution I

The first thing you will need to do is download a Patch from this website:

Always Virus Scan anything you download. Avast-free did not find any malware in my download.

After you download the patch you will need to Extract the ZIP file with 7zip or whatever you use.
Extract the file into the SAME Drive as the steam library where your game is located. C: D:
run the application from the download patch: TW2_Upgrade_English_1.00-2.05
Uncheck the box where it asks to run Two Worlds II.

Start Two Worlds II from steam

You will see something similar to this
Put your steam key here

UNCHECK Register Now and then click INTERNET ACTIVATION

When you click continue it should start an automatic process and you should see

You will need to do these last 4 steps again for the Pirate DLC

click OK and the game should look like this

Now you can close the game and go to your steam library and VERIFY GAME FILES in properties
to update it to the latest version. Which looks like this

This was the first solution i found so i tried it and it worked for me.

The Solution II

I got this to work thanks to ramza_2's post.

To do this you will need to Run the App REGEDIT
You can type regedit in the Windows search bar on your taskbar. Bottom left of your screen by default. Or you can type regedit in the Run app.

Once in Regedit you will need to access Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\reality pump\TwoWorlds2\Installer by clicking the arrows beside
^Computer
^HKEY_CURRENT_USER
^SOFTWARE
^reality pump
^TwoWorlds2
^Installer

Right click on the right side and click NEW and then DWORD.
Name it VersionD.

Right click on VersionD and choose Modify...
Change the Value data: from 0 to 1.

Refer to Solution 1's pictures for info about Product Activation.
You may need to delete folders in SerialKey tab of Regedit. On a fresh install on a new PC, my SerialKey and Installer folders were empty.

To delete the Reg - Key.
The 1st post pinned in the Discussion Board says to delete the reg-key.

Here you need to delete the Reg-Key.
From what i can guess from the Dev post i think you need to delete the entire SerialKey folder in the left section of the Regedit window.

I haven't tried this method. But this is the post from a Developer.

Steam Deck Activation

I found and tried the method in this Post.

Open .local/steam/steamapps/compatdata/7520/pfx/system.reg with KWrite.
You can find this directory with Dolphin or by using Browse Local Files from your Steam Library in Desktop Mode. Navigate back to steamapps and go to compatdata etc.
If you double left click on the System.reg file it should open with KWrite by default.

Press CTRL+F to open the FIND feature
Or click on Edit and then click on Find
Copy and paste to find the line
[Software\\Wow6432Node\\Reality Pump\\TwoWorlds2\\Installer]

ADD in a new line
"VersionD"=dword:00000001

VersionD is the demo version and that's why you won't get achievements.

So, I had a problem with Solution 1
The patch would tell me that the game isn't installed

I did 2 things that fixed it
1. I had to Intall the game on my system drive (C: for me, I moved it in steam and didn't reinstall)
2. I had to start the game FIRST, BEFORE using the patch

After that it worked, thx

@disconnectome I just made a character and was able to go online. there were a bunch of empty servers and 1 server with 2 players on it.

I noticed that, too. Hopefully steam fixes the URLs. Anyway, I updated the Guide since i finally got the game to run on my Steamdeck.

For those having difficulties accessing the images on the guide. click into the picture, it should say invalid URL. however, at the top of the page you will notice another URL with the image above this message. Click into the URL and should open the image just fine.

@The First Breed Hey thanks a lot for replying. I’ve since been able to make it happen. I have a friend who knows Linux well enough and he face timed me through it. The patch just needs to be downloaded. By default there is only one Drive on the deck so it will be downloaded to the same drive as steam. This caused me some confusion because I didn’t know if there were C or D drives like with windows. Secondly I wasn’t sure how to open the prompt program, turns out it’s called vim. I’m explaining this here in case anyone else had these questions but I’m sure that video you linked does the job infinitely better. Thanks again!
