How To Enjoy Thomas Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
By MaxwellBaseball12
As of Late I have noticed that many people I run into in online games seem like they are struggling to truly have fun while playing the game. They get worked up at issues they have no control over, (teammates, enemies, the game itself), or even at themselves which constantly begs the question; Why play a game that you clearly receive no enjoyment from? In this guide I aim to highlight the main reasons I have picked up on for the general lack of enjoyment people feel while playing Siege, and offer my own thoughts on how you as a unhappy Siege player can do your mental a favor and enjoy the game a little more.

What Is The Goal of Thomas Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege?
Preface: Written by gods (Diamond) and giorno (copper II). Together we have had as full a siege experience as one can have, and have used these experiences to craft this guide as best as we can.

According to Wikipedia, Tomas Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is "an online tactical first person shooter video game, in which players utilize many different operators from the Rainbow team ... The game puts heavy emphasis on environmental destruction and cooperation between players. Each player assumes control of an attacker or a defender in different gameplay modes such as rescuing a hostage, defusing a bomb, and taking control of an objective within a room." Let us unpack that for a moment. "Online tactical first person shooter", just knowing the definition of each word here we can figure this one out. You play online against and/or with other people, using strategies and plans to gain military advantage, shooting people from the eyes of the character you are controlling. This all makes perfect sense, and I believe most if not all players I have encountered in Thomas Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege have little to no issue with this aspect of the game. when we move on to the next line however, we reach a specification where I feel people begin to stray from the intended path.
"The game puts heavy emphasis on environmental destruction and cooperation between players ". A main part of the technical aspect of Thomas Clancy's game is the environmental destruction mentioned here. When playing ranked, how the bomb site is setup (what walls are reinforced, what rotates have been made, and what gadgets have been put where) can often make or break the round for the defending team. Unless this is a full stack of diamonds vs a true copper or bronze stack, you will want to gain a tactical advantage by the way you setup your site. This is where we first see cooperation between players become a necessity. Each operator has something unique to bring to every round, and while some mainly benefit themselves, there are a fair amount of operators who use their gadget to improve the site defense and benefit the whole team. This is where I reach my first point in having fun playing Thomas Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.

Using the Microphone

Nearly every laptop has a built in microphone. If you game on a laptop you have a microphone right there in your machine. For the majority of people that play on a PC, your headset has a mic. If you are one of those gamers who wants to constantly feel like you're better than everyone else without improving your game play, you might have a pair of studio headphones. If you fall into that second category of studio headphones, ignore this as your teammates are better off without your input. For those of you with a microphone (literally everyone), talk to your teammates. Ask where to put gadgets, tell them where you were shot from, or give call-outs. This gives your teammates more information, allowing you a tactical edge over your opponents. When a teammate asks "who has a mic?" offer a reply, no ones voice is so funny that they would rather mock you than win a ranked game. If you are under the age of 12 or 13, you shouldn't have the game anyways so don't be disappointed when you get what is coming (steam rates R6 as 16+).

Not Every Teammate is Gods Gift to Siege

So, you're in a ranked match and you die. This is your fault. Unless a teammate killed you, you lost your gunfight and died. Now that it's down to your teammates they might lose their gunfights as well. This is okay, not every teammate shares your skill level. You will encounter teammates that are far more skilled than you are, and will also have teammates that may make you wonder how they made it out of bed and turned on their PC today. This is part of the wonder that is Rainbow Six. If your teammate fails to clutch a 1v1, tell them nice try, it could have just as easily gone the other way. Once you stop expecting your teammates to win every gunfight and clutch every round you can save yourself quite a bit of stress.

It's Probably Your Fault

Ultimately your rank is due to no one but yourself. If you were truly the best one in the match, why didn't you clutch every round? If you "should be plat but I had bad teammates", why aren't you plat? if you play enough matches your rank should accurately reflect your skill in the game. Having played many matches in Copper through Diamond elo, silver and gold elo is full of people who "should be _____ rank" and _____ is always anything higher than they are. Bronze and Copper elo are by far the most enjoyable. No one thinks they are the best player ever, no one is running site setups like their diamond match depends on it, and best of all (almost) everyone is nice. Silver through high Gold is truly the trenches. There is not a more depressing place to find yourself than a low gold ranked match. Once you make it into Plat through Diamond you reach a nice resting place. It's not the best but its also much better than it could be.

Many people would say that the goal of Thomas Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is to shoot heads and win games, but I believe that as long as you're having fun playing the game you're doing the right thing, and that brings us to our final point.
