How to do the Scrap Metal Glitch (Infinite Caps/XP)

This guide will go over how to do the Infinite Scrap Metal glitch in Fallout 3.

Introduction

This guide will go over how to do the Fallout 3 Infinite Scrap Metal Glitch.

What You Will Need

What you will need;

• More than 2 Scrap Metal (As long as the number is even).
  
• Fort Independence needs to have been discovered.
  
• A high(ish) sneak skill (Stealth Boys and Chinese Stealth Armour can help).
  
• A repair skill of at least 30.

What You Need to Do

Step 1 - Go to Fort Independence (it's to the North of Andale and West of the Fairfax Ruins), speak to Protector Henry Casdin and initiate the unmarked quest The Outcast Collection Agent.

Step 2 - Give Protector Casdin all of your Scrap Metal (make sure you have an EVEN amount of scrap metal, or the glitch will not work), then save.

Step 3 - Use your Stealth Boy and steal all of your scrap metal back, then save again.

Step 4 - Now give Casdin ALL BUT TWO of your Scrap Metal.

Step 5 - Pickpocket back the scrap metal and save. Make sure you wait for the Stealth Boy to wear off before doing the next step to make it easier.

Step 6 - Now you want to get caught intentionally whilst pickpocketing and let Casdin take back the things you stole. Casdin may turn hostile on certain save files. I don't know if you can fix this and it seems to be random.

Congratulations! You now have infinite scrap metal! If you check your inventory, it will seem like you don't have any scrap but if you speak to Casdin once more, you can get an infinite amount of either 5.56mm ammo, Radaway, Stimpacks or Frag Grenades.

DO NOT PICK UP ANY MORE SCRAP METAL OR YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THE GLITCH AGAIN.

Now onto the infinite XP & Caps.

Step 1 - Go to Megaton and enter the Water Processing Plant.

Step 2 - Speak to Walter and initiate the quest Treatment. You will need a repair skill of at least 30 to complete it.

Step 3 - After completing the quest go back to Walter. He will state that he needs scrap metal to keep the pipes fixed.

Step 4 - From here you can either sell the Scrap Metal to him for 10 caps each and 5xp or donate them for +10 Karma and 5xp.

Repeat Step 4 until you have as many caps as you could ever need.
