Arcana
Arcana is an expansive Crafting skill that covers a very large variety of items including magical weapons such as Fire Staves and Ice Gauntlets, Potions, Weapon Coatings and Tinctures. Arcanists can also perform Elemental Infusions, combining Elemental Essences into more powerful ones. Arcana uses resources and materials obtained from skills in the Gathering and Refining lines. A higher level in Arcana will allow players to create better, more powerful weapons and consumables, as well as improving the Gear Score range of craftable weapons.

Arcana is performed at an Arcane Repository which can be found in Settlements. Arcane Repositories have a Tier level which can be increased by taking on Town Projects. Note that each weapon has a tier level requirement in order to craft. This tier level corresponds to the Arcane Repository's tier level. If your settlement's Arcane Repository level does not meet the requirement, you will need to either raise it or find another settlement with a Arcane Repository of a higher tier. Crafting in the Arcana line requires the player to be of the appropriate Arcana level as well. Leveling up in Arcana is a straightforward process. Players simply need to continuously craft weapons and consumables raise their level in the skill. Collecting resources, however, is more involved and can prove more difficult.

The arcana profession in New World allows players to craft magic weapons, potions, and tinctures. Magic Weapons can be crafted from Tier 1 up to tier 5, and you can craft different rarities of weapons from common to legendary by using the Arcana profession.

Various types of potions can be crafted using arcana that include health potions, mana potions, regeneration potions, focus potions, and encumbrance potions. Along with potions you can also craft weapon coatings, tinctures, wards, and perform elemental Infusion which turns motes that you gather into stronger versions that are used in higher tier arcana crafting.

In order to get started with arcana you simply need to gather some raw materials, make your way over to an arcana station or campfire, and press the default key of “E” to begin crafting. Arcana at a campfire is limited to health potions, mana potions, blight tinctures, and corruption tinctures.

When planning out where to go to craft you should also be aware of the arcana station tier. You will be limited to crafting items to the tier of station you are using, so in order to craft tier V potions or weapons you will need to find a tier V arcana station.

Once you have gathered the necessary raw material and have found a suitable place to craft, simply find the item on the list you want to craft and select the blue CRAFT button, or use the slider to craft multiple of the same item if you wish.

Every time you craft an item at the arcana station you will be rewarded with arcana crafting experience. The item you craft will determine the amount of crafting experience you are rewarded. As you gain experience in the arcana profession, you will also gain arcana levels. As you gain levels in arcana you will unlock higher tier items that you can craft.

TIP: When first starting out make sure you pay attention to the drop down menus when crafting certain items. You will have the option to choose from various materials depending on the item you are crafting. Some items require specific ingredients and will not have the drop down menus available. When the drop down options are available make sure you are not utilizing your higher tier resources if you are simply trying to level up your arcana skill.

Selecting rarer materials does not grant you additional crafting XP. If you utilize higher tier materials when crafting weapons, you will adjust the gear score values up and have the possibility to craft a higher gear score item. Utilizing rarer materials for the consumables does not enhance your consumable. If you use higher tier ingredients you will have a chance to craft additional items, but the quality of the item will not change.

Worth noting here is that you can place your raw materials (works for all crafting not just arcana) in the storage in a settlement and still access those ingredients at the arcana station. You have to be in the same settlement that you have the items stored in, but you do not have to have them in your inventory.

A quick note about the UI. You may notice that while crafting consumables there is a message that says “No bonus can be added to this item.” That area is reserved for crafting items that have attributes and perks. For example, if you use an Arcana station to craft a weapon you will be able to apply special resources that will cause your crafted item to have a specific perk, and you can craft using Azoth which will increase the chances of your item having attributes and gem slots. Because the consumables you craft with arcana do not have attributes or perks, you do not have those options available when crafting those items.

Potions and their Effects

Health Potions - Use to instantly restore a portion of your health. The higher the tier the more health you gain on use. Using a health potion triggers a 30 second cooldown before you can consume another health potion.

Mana Potions - Use to instantly restore a portion of your mana. The higher the tier the more mana you gain on use. Using a mana potion triggers a 15 second cooldown before you can consume another mana potion.

Regeneration Potions - Use to restore both health and mana. Upon use you will restore X% of health every 1 second and X% of mana per 1 second for 10 seconds. The amount restored over 10 seconds is based on the tier of potion that is used. Using this potion triggers a 30 second cooldown before you can use another regeneration potion. You can use a health or mana potion after consuming a regeneration potion.

Focus Potions - Use to restore a % of mana every 1 second for 60 seconds. The amount regenerated ranges based on the tier of the potion.

  • Tier II - Restores .25%
  • Tier III - Restores .50%
  • Tier IV - Restores .75%
  • Tier V - Restores 1.00%

Encumbrance Potions - Use to increase your encumbrance limit by a specified amount for a short duration. Tier 3 increases the limit by 50 for 120 seconds, tier 4 by 75 for 150 seconds, and tier 5 by 100 for 180 seconds. You can not stack these potions.

Weapon Coatings

You can also use the arcana profession to craft weapon coatings. There is a coating for each enemy type in the game which includes, beasts, lost, corrupted, ancients, and angry earth.

You can craft tier II to tier V weapon coatings. You can then apply the crafted coating to your currently drawn weapon you gain a % damage boost against whichever enemy type you crafted the coating for. The coating will last for a specified duration or will be removed upon equipping your weapon, whichever comes first. You can only apply one coating to one weapon at a time, and coatings can stack with weapon traits.

  • Tier II - 9% damage buff, lasts 5 minutes
  • Tier III - 11% damage buff, lasts 10 minutes
  • Tier IV - 13% damage buff, lasts 15 minutes
  • Tier V - 15% damage buff, lasts 20 minutes

Tinctures

Tinctures will remove certain afflictions and give you a resistance to that affliction for a specified duration. There are two different types of tinctures, Blight Tinctures and Corruption Tinctures.

Consuming a blight tincture will fully remove the blight affliction and you will gain a resistance to the blight affliction for 5 minutes.

  • Tier II - Increases blight absorption by 25%
  • Tier III - Increases blight absorption by 89%
  • Tier IV - Increases blight absorption by 95%
  • Tier V - Gain immunity to blight
New World Arcana Pt.2
Consuming a corruption tincture will fully remove the corruption affliction and you will gain a resistance to the corruption affliction for 5 minutes.

  • Tier II - Increases corruption absorption by 25%
  • Tier III - Increases corruption absorption by 89%
  • Tier IV - Increases corruption absorption by 95%
  • Tier V - Gain immunity to corruption

Tinctures can be crafted at both a camp and an arcana station of the appropriate tiers.

Tinctures can not be stacked. If you consume a blight potion and then immediately consume a corruption potion you will still remove the blight affliction, but the blight resistance will be overridden by the corruption resistance.

Ward Potions

Ward potions are potions that when consumed will grant you increased damage absorption against one of the 5 enemy types: Ancients, Angry Earth, Beast, Corrupted, and Lost. They are only available from tier III to tier V. You will receive your increased damage absorption for a specified duration after receiving damage from that enemy type a certain amount of times.

  • Tier III - Increase damage absorption by 5% for 20 seconds after receiving damage 5 times.
  • Tier IV - Increase damage absorption by 10% for 20 seconds after receiving damage 10 times.
  • Tier V - Increase damage absorption by 15% for 20 seconds after receiving damage 15 times.

These can be very useful when running expeditions or farming a certain enemy type in the open world.

These potions have a 120 second shared cooldown.

Absorption Potions

Absorption potions are potions that when consumed will grant you increased damage absorption against one of the 5 elemental types: Arcane, Fire, Lightning, Nature, and Void. They are only available from tier III to tier V. You will receive increased absorption by a specified percentage for a specified duration. These potions can not stack. Only one can be active at a time. These potions have a 120 second shared cooldown.

  • Tier III - Increase absorption for 9% for 30 seconds
  • Tier IV - Increase absorption for 12% for 30 seconds
  • Tier V - Increase absorption for 15% for 30 seconds

Elemental Infusion
Elemental infusion is the process of combining motes to make wisps, wisps to make essences, and essences to make Quintessence.

Motes can be harvested in the open world (all mote locations can be found by utilizing our interactive map) and are used in many arcana recipes. There are 7 types of motes: Air, Soul, Life, Fire, Death, Earth, and Water As you craft higher tier items you may need to use a wisp, essence, or quintessence in the recipe vs the harvested mote. In order to do that you’ll have to be at an arcana station to combine the mote into the higher tier ingredient.

The following shows what’s needed to craft each tier of elemental infusion:

  • Elemental Wisps (Tier III) - 5 motes
  • Elemental Essences (Tier IV) - 4 wisps
  • Elemental Quintessence (Tier V) - 3 Essence

Required Materials
For the materials that you need to level your Arcana skill, you will need to use all of the gathering resources in this game like fishing, mining, skinning, and harvesting resources.

This will take you a lot of time to gather all of the materials to level up quickly. Below is the list of the materials that you need:

  • Oil
  • Tier 2 and Tier 3 Magical Plants
  • Fresh Water
  • Steel Ingots
  • Tanglewisps (~100)
  • Water Motes
  • Coarse Leather
  • Hyssop (50-60)
Related Skills
You can get additional XP for some of the skills that are related to Arcana Crafting Skill when you are performing Arcana. The two major sources of elemental resources for Arcanists are Mining and Harvesting that are required for this skill.

Here are the skills that rely on Arcana:

  • Harvesting
  • Logging
  • Mining
  • Smelting
  • Fishing
  • Wood Working

Arcanists have two major sources of elemental resources in Mining and Harvesting and both are essential for getting the most out of this trade skill.

Note that materials for any Crafting skill can be obtained from other players as well by trading, so players can still be successful in Arcana even if they invest in other skills, but this requires playing the game's economy system.
Gear Score & Item Yield
Leveling up Arcana in New World improves your crafted equipment's Minimum and Maximum Gear Score by tiers. Improving the Maximum Gear Score allows for the potential for better items while improving the Minimum Gear Score shortens the Gear Score range, making it easier to craft items at the higher end.

Tier II Weapons

  • The Maximum Gear Score for Tier II Crafted Weapons improves in increments of 5 for every 5 levels, up to a maximum of 75 at level 70.

  • Starting at level 40, the Minimum Gear Score for Tier II Crafted Weapons improves in increments of 5 for every 10 levels, up to a maximum of 20 at level 70.

Tier III Weapons

  • Starting at level 50, the Maximum Gear Score for Tier III Crafted Weapons improves in increments of 5 for every 5 levels, up to a maximum of 75 at level 120.

  • Starting at level 90, the Minimum Gear Score for Tier III Crafted Weapons improves in increments of 5 for every 10 levels, up to a maximum of 20 at level 120.

Tier IV Weapons

  • Starting at level 100, the Maximum Gear Score for Tier IV Crafted Weapons improves in increments of 5 for every 5 levels, up to a maximum of 75 at level 170.

  • Starting at level 140, the Minimum Gear Score for Tier IV Crafted Weapons improves in increments of 5 for every 10 levels, up to a maximum of 20 at level 170.

Tier V Weapons

  • The Maximum Gear Score for Tier V Crafted Weapons improves in increments of 5 at levels 150, 165, 180, 190 and finally maxing out at 25 at level 200.

The Minimum Gear Score for Tier V Crafted Weapons cannot be improved by leveling.

Leveling up in Arcana will also improve your chances of creating additional items per craft. This bonus chance only applies to Consumables and other Arcana crafted items such as the infused higher-tier Elemental Motes. This does not apply to crafted Weapons.

The chance improves in increments of 0.10% per level, maxing out at 20.00% at level 200. However, note that many crafted items have a Base Extra Items Chance with a negative rate. For example, the Tier III Strong Health Potion has a base chance of -2% and crafting it with an Arcana skill level of 100 (10% Extra Items Chance) will provide an 8% chance of yielding additional items per craft.

The chance of creating additional items can also be improved by using higher-tier or rarer materials where possible during the crafting process. There are also equipment you can wear which provide a boost to crafting yield.
New World Arcana Leveling Pt.1
Leveling up in Arcana allows for crafting of better, more powerful weapons with higher base Gear Scores and also improves chances of imbuing them with Perks or a Gem Socket. It also allows you to craft better, more potent consumables and perform higher tier Elemental Infusions. Leveling up in Arcana unlocks more recipes as well as more powerful versions of existing recipes.

In the case of Arcana, the most efficient way to level up the skill is to craft Potions. While crafting Weapons may yield more XP per craft, the cost of crafting them will increase exponentially as you move up in tiers and gathering the resources can be much more time consuming. With Potions, you can gather all the required resources with the Harvesting skill alone, all the while leveling both skills in tandem. Specifically, you will be crafting Health and Mana Potions of varying tiers. It is up to you if you wish to craft exclusively Health or Mana Potions or a mix of both. It is highly recommended to use a mix of both as there will be some overlap in resources gathered.

The following table represents details the experience required to reach certain levels in Arcana, as well as a general count for the amount of Potions required to reach these thresholds. For simplicity's sake, the table only shows tier milestone levels instead of every single Arcana level.

Keep in mind that with each stage of the leveling process, you are required to use an Arcane Repository of sufficient Tier (i.e., Tier IV Repository to craft Tier IV Potions). Alternatively, all Potions can be crafted at your Camp if it is also of a sufficient Tier. However, getting the Camp to higher Tiers requires being of a higher character level so it may not be the best option for early to mid-game players.

Level 0 - 1

Getting Arcana to Level 1 is relatively easy and it is likely you'll have completed this goal within the first hour of beginning the game. Take note that crafting a Weak Health Potion requires 1 x Tier 1 Medicinal Reagents which is comprised of Hyssop and Bullrush Cob. You can use either one to create the potion. Crafting a Weak Mana Potion requires 1 x Tier 1 Magical Reagents which is comprised solely of Briar Buds. This same pattern is used in crafting all Potions. Health Potions will require Medicinal Reagents, Mana Potions will require Magical Reagents. Higher tier potions will also require additional resources but the system remains the same and you will be able to use a wide variety of resources to achieve the same results. Additionally, each potions will require 1 x Water so make sure to gather some whenever you get the chance.

Level 1 - 50

To get to Level 50, you will want to begin crafting the Tier II 'Common' Potions. It will require roughly 460 Potions at 24 XP per craft. The Materials required to craft both Potions are as follows:

Common Health Potion

  • 1 x Tier II Medicinal Reagents: Sporebloom Fruit / Platecap Flesh / Gillflower Gills / Glowing Mushroom Cap / Lifebloom Stem
  • 1 x Water

Common Mana Potion

  • 1 x Ter II Magical Reagents: Bumbleblossom / Tanglewisp / Suncreeper Tendril / Soulsprout Stem
  • 1 x Water

As a general rule of thumb, you will want to harvest just about everything you see in a given farming area as there is such a huge variety of materials that can be used. Of the Health Potion Materials, Platecap Flesh and its Platecap Fungus node can be found in high concentrations all around Windsward. Be sure to also gather any Lifebloom Stems you find as they can be used to craft the same Potion. Petalcaps can also be found fairly frequently around the area and you should make a point to harvest these as they can be used as materials in higher Tier Potions. For the Mana Potions, you will want to go to Weaver's Fen where there is an abundance of Bumbleblossom.

Level 50 - 100

Starting from Tier III, you will now need Elemental Reagents as Materials for your Potions. Getting to level 100 requires roughly 960 Potions. Health Potions will require Earth Reagents while Mana Potions will require Air Reagents. The Materials required for crafting Tier III Potions are as follows:

Strong Health Potion

  • 1 x Tier III Medicinal Reagents: Halibut Viscera / Sculpin Scales / Gleaming Lodestone / Lifebloom Leaf
  • 1 x Earth Reagents: Petalcap / Loamy Lodestone / Earthshell Tail / Earthspine Stem / Earthspine Leaf / Earthspine Flower / Earth Mote / Earth Wisp / Earth Essence / Earth Quintessence
  • 1 x Water

Strong Mana Potion

  • 1 x Tier III Magical Reagents: Mushroom Fins / Paddlefish Gills / Catfish Whiskers / Snail Slime / Frogfish Tail / Crystalline Lodestone / Soulsprout Leaf
  • 1 x Air Reagents: Twistcap Spiral / Suncreeper Tendril / Shocking Lodestone / Lightning Beetle / Shockbulb Stem / Shockbulb Leaf / Shockbulb Flower / Air Mote / Air Wisp / Air Essence / Air Quintessence
  • 1 x Water

At this Tier, you have the option of gathering your materials using the Fishing and Mining skills as well. Elemental Reagents can drop from a variety of sources, including mining nodes. Do note that you will need to have Mining at Level 50 in order to gather the usable materials at this Tier. For Health Potions, the Eastern edge of Monarch's Bluffs has an abundance of Lifebloom Plants and Lifejewels for your Medicinal Reagents. Monarch's Bluffs also has plenty of Earthspine Plants which can yield its Stem, Leaf and Flower, as well as Earth Motes, all of which can be used as Earth Reagents.

If you've primarily been harvesting fungi as suggested, you may already have amassed some Mushroom Fins for your Mana Potions. These are a fairly common drop from all fungi. The Shockbulb Plant can be found in plenty of places, notably between First Light and Cutlass Keys, and Northwest Everfall. This plant will yield plenty of your Air Reagents.

Level 100 - 150

Starting at this Tier, you will be using Spirit Reagents to craft both types of Potions, so there will be overlaps in usable materials. Getting Arcana to 150 requires a total of 1,349 Potions. The Materials required are as follows:

Powerful Health Potion

  • 1 x Tier IV Medicinal Reagents: Lifebloom Flower
  • 1 x Earth Reagents: Petalcap / Loamy Lodestone / Earthshell Tail / Earthspine Stem / Earthspine Leaf / Earthspine Flower / Earth Mote / Earth Wisp / Earth Essence / Earth Quintessence
  • 1 x Spirit Reagents: Bumbleblossom / Tubecap / Shellbed Cap / Crystalline Lodestone / Soulwyrm Tongue / Soulsprout Stem / Soulsprout Leaf / Soulsprout Flower / Dragon Fish Jaw / Soul Mote / Soul Wisp / Soul Essence / Soul Quintessence
  • 1 x Water

Powerful Mana Potion

  • 1 x Tier IV Magical Reagents: Soulsprout Flower
  • 1 x Air Reagents: Twistcap Spiral / Suncreeper Tendril / Shocking Lodestone / Lightning Beetle / Shockbulb Stem / Shockbulb Leaf / Shockbulb Flower / Air Mote / Air Wisp / Air Essence / Air Quintessence
  • 1 x Spirit Reagents: Bumbleblossom / Tubecap / Shellbed Cap / Crystalline Lodestone / Soulwyrm Tongue / Soulsprout Stem / Soulsprout Leaf / Soulsprout Flower / Dragon Fish Jaw / Soul Mote / Soul Wisp / Soul Essence / Soul Quintessence
  • 1 x Water
New World Arcana Leveling Pt.2
As you can see, there is a lot of overlap between Tier III and IV Materials such as Earth and Air Reagents so you can simply follow the previous section for the most efficient gathering spots. Take care not to use the Soulsprout Flower as a Spirit Reagent for either Potion as there are many other options available for this Material Category, whereas Soulsprout Flower is the only option for Tier IV Magical Reagents. The Soulsprout plant can be found in Monarch's Bluffs, Windsward and Everfall although none of these areas have a particularly high concentration. Furthermore, both the Soulsprout Flower and the Lifebloom Flower are rare drops from their respective nodes and gathering them will take up most of your time during this leveling Tier.

Level 150 - 200

The final stretch of leveling Arcana will require a total of 2,225 Potions. This task can be quite daunting given the amount of resources required and the fact that these resoures are often found in high level areas. Take your time and wait until you are a sufficient level to tackle these areas if necessary.

Infused Health Potion

  • 1 x Tier V Medicinal Reagents: Azoth Water / Lifemoth Eyes / Poison Sac
  • 1 x Earth Reagents: Petalcap / Loamy Lodestone / Earthshell Tail / Earthspine Stem / Earthspine Leaf / Earthspine Flower / Earth Mote / Earth Wisp / Earth Essence / Earth Quintessence
  • 1 x Spirit Reagents: Bumbleblossom / Tubecap / Shellbed Cap / Crystalline Lodestone / Soulwyrm Tongue / Soulsprout Stem / Soulsprout Leaf / Soulsprout Flower / Dragon Fish Jaw / Soul Mote / Soul Wisp / Soul Essence / Soul Quintessence
  • 1 x Water

Powerful Mana Potion

  • 1 x Tier V Magical Reagents: Soulwyrm Tongue / Dragon Fish Jaw
  • 1 x Air Reagents: Twistcap Spiral / Suncreeper Tendril / Shocking Lodestone / Lightning Beetle / Shockbulb Stem / Shockbulb Leaf / Shockbulb Flower / Air Mote / Air Wisp / Air Essence / Air Quintessence
  • 1 x Spirit Reagents: Bumbleblossom / Tubecap / Shellbed Cap / Crystalline Lodestone / Soulwyrm Tongue / Soulsprout Stem / Soulsprout Leaf / Soulsprout Flower / Dragon Fish Jaw / Soul Mote / Soul Wisp / Soul Essence / Soul Quintessence
  • 1 x Water

Azoth Water can be found in the Southeast corner of Brightwood, albeit in small amounts. More can be found in the high level areas of Mourningdale, Edengrove, Shattered Mountain and Reekwater, with the largest concentration being in Reekwater. Alternatively, you can farm for Lifemoth Eyes but these are rare creatures and again, largely concentrated in higher level areas. Poison Sac is another option for Health Potions which can be fished from Stingrays of all sizes, with the larger variants yielding more sacs. Soulwyrm Tongue can be gathered from Soulwyrms around Ebonscale Reach and Reekwater, and rarely from the lower level areas around Brightwood and Windsward while gathering your other Reagents.
