New World Cooking Leveling
There are different types of trade skills in New World. These skills are non-combat skills that fall in the crafting category like Jewelcrafting. Crafting is a profession that focuses on making weapons and other items. Below we’ve detailed everything you need to know about the cooking profession in New World.

Cooking

Cooking is the Crafting skill focused on creating Food and Dyes by using resources and materials obtained from skills in the Gathering lines. A higher level in Cooking will allow players to create a wider range of food with more powerful effects, as well as a bigger variety of dyes. Additionally, higher levels in Cooking will allow players to craft food and dyes more efficiently, producing more items for the same amount of resources.

Cooking is performed at a Kitchen which can often be found in Settlements. Kitchens have a Tier level which can be increased by taking on Town Projects. Note that each craftable item has a tier level requirement in order to craft. This tier level corresponds to the Kitchen's tier level. If your settlement's Kitchen level does not meet the requirement, you will need to either raise it or find another settlement with a Kitchen of a higher tier. Cooking food and preparing dyes requires the player to be of the appropriate Cooking level as well. Leveling up in Cooking is a straightforward process. Players simply need to continuously craft items to raise their level in the skill. Collecting resources, however, is more involved and can prove more difficult.
Materials and Other Relying Skills
Just like any other crafting profession in New Word, cooking also relies on a few skills and trading in order to gain resources and other materials.

The skills you’ll be needing for cooking are given below:

  • Harvesting
  • Tracking & Skinning
  • Fishing
Benefits of Leveling Up Cooking
Apart from providing you with health/mana restoration and other bonuses, there are plenty of more benefits for leveling up Cooking in New World.

One of the major benefits is the efficiency of your crafted items. The higher the level of cooking, the better will be the resulting food and dyes. These higher-level foods will give you much better passives and bonuses.

Leveling up Cooking may take a while but it’s worth the effort. To level up your cooking skill, all you need to do is cook and eventually reach the maximum level; which is level 200.

Leveling up your Cooking skill to 200 may seem like a simple task, but doing it in the most efficient and quickest way possible is tough to figure out on your own.

So to help you out with that, below we’ll show you how you can Power Level your Cooking skill in New World.
Using Dyes
Dyes are a type of consumable that can be crafted through the Cooking skill. Dyes are made of pigment and can be used to change the color of your equipment. Each piece of Armor, as well as Shields can be dyed in a variety of different colors. Weapons cannot be dyed as of this writing.

How to dye your equipment

  • Open your Inventory
  • Right click on any of your equipped armor pieces or shield
  • Select the Dye option

From the Dye menu, you will be able to see all your equipped armor and several dye slots. Each piece of Armor and Shield can have anywhere from 1 to 4 dye slots. These are the Primary, Secondary, Accent and Tint slots and each one colors your armor in a different way. Choose your dye from the drop-down menu of each slot to preview the dye on your armor. When you're happy with your choice, confirm to finalize the dyeing process.

Important: All dyes are one-time use only. This includes dyes purchased from the store for real money. Each dye slot will use up one unit of dye and you will need several quantities if you wish to dye other slots in the same color.
Gear Score & Item Yield
As a Crafting skill focused purely on Consumables, leveling up in Cooking has no effect on Gear Score whatsoever, but it will improve your chances of creating additional items per craft. This bonus can yield 1 or more additional items per craft. This bonus chance applies to all Consumables crafted via Cooking including Food, Food Components and Dyes.

The chance improves in increments of 0.10% per level, maxing out at 20.00% at level 200. However, note that many crafted items have a Base Extra Items Chance with a negative rate, especially higher-tier items. For example, the Tier IV Berry Brew has a base chance of -5% and crafting it with a Cooking skill level of 150 (15% Extra Items Chance) will provide a 10% chance of yielding additional items per craft.

The chance of creating additional items can also be improved by using higher-tier or rarer materials where possible during the crafting process. There are also equipment you can wear which provide a boost to crafting yield.
How to Level Up Cooking
Leveling up Cooking in New World allows for crafting of better, more potent Food as well as improving your crafting efficiency and increasing your yield.
There are many, many ways to level Cooking and most of them are very resource efficient since most, if not all recipes only require materials in single amounts. One of the best ways to achieve this is through crafting Recovery Foods such as Rations. You can go about this in many ways, whether you wish to harvest plants and other resources, hunt animals and skin them for meat or go on a quiet fishing trip. If you are also looking to level your Fishing skill, it is highly recommended you do it together with Cooking as these two skills have great synergy. Taking the fishing route, you can stay in place for just about the whole time, setting up a Camp nearby where you can cook your Recovery foods.

The following table details the experience required to reach certain levels in Cooking, as well as a general count for the amount of Crafted Items required to reach these thresholds. For simplicity's sake, the table only shows tier milestone levels instead of every single Cooking level.

Note that unlike other Crafting skills, Cooking requires significantly less experience to level up.

Leveling in Cooking will require a Kitchen of at least Tier II. If you are sticking to the Travel Ration all the way, you will not need anything above this. Otherwise, make sure you have access to a Kitchen of the appropriate Tier. Alternatively, since all the crafted items are in the Recovery Foods category, they can also be crafted at your Camp. This is especially useful since you can simply camp near a body of water and do all your gathering and cooking in the same spot the entire time. Be aware, however, that you will need to be at certain levels and complete certain quests in order to upgrade your Camp if you are looking to craft any of the higher-tier Recovery Foods. The requirements to upgrade your Camp are as follows:

  • Tier II - Requires Level 15 and completion of the Friends in Fashion Quest (Monarch's Bluffs)
  • Tier III - Requires Level 25 and completion of the Animal Instincts Quest (Cutlass Keys)
  • Tier IV - Requires Level 40 and completion of the Lupine Observations Quest (Restless Shore)
  • Tier V - Requires Level 55 and completion of the Fading Lights Quest (Edengrove)

When cooking items, take note of of the ingredient requirements. Many recipes, including the ones used for this leveling guide specifically, use one Primary Material and one or more Secondary Materials. The primaries will often have a specific Tier requirement while for secondaries, any material within the category can be used. Most recipes will use Raw Foods with certain specifics. For example, the Light Meal calls for 1 x Tier III Raw Foods, 1 x Raw Foods and 1 x Raw Foods. In this case, any Tier III Raw Food such as Cabbage, Onion, Squid Meat or Venison can be used. For the two secondary materials, anything within the Raw Foods category can be used, even the lowest tier materials such as Egg, Honey or Poultry. In fact, if simply leveling the Cooking skill, it is recommended to use your lowest tier materials as they are generally the most abundant and easiest to gather, unless there is a specific tier requirement.

Note: You cannot use the exact same ingredient/material to fulfill more than one requirement in a given recipe. This means you cannot use Squid Meat as both the primary and secondary materials in the above example, even if it corresponds to all three. Refer to the Raw Foods page for a list of eligible materials.

One of the introductory quests will task you with crafting a Light Ration which should get you to Level 1 in Cooking which is the minimum requirement to craft Travel Ration used in the leveling guide.

Fishing Route

If going the fishing route, you can craft Travel Rations all the way to 200.

Travel Ration (22,522 Total)

  • 22,522 x Firm Fish Filet or any Tier 2 Raw Foods
  • 22,522 x Fish Filet or any Raw Foods

You will be crafting a total of 22,522 Travel Rations. While this number may seem daunting, the actual amount of fish you will be catching for ingredients is a lot lower. This is due to the fact that you can salvage fish to get a number of materials. In this instance, you will be looking to catch Common Fish such as Bass, Perch and Pike, as well as Uncommon Fish such as Catfish, Cod and Halibut. These are easily found in open waters around the starting areas such as Windsward. Salvaging Common Fish can yield anywhere from 1 - 4 Fish Filet and 1 - 3 Firm Fish Filet depending on size, while salvaging Uncommon Fish can yield 1 - 4 Firm Fish Filet, as well as Tender Fish Filet which can be used as a Tier III Raw Food ingredient.

Alternatively, you can take the 4-tier approach and cook food corresponding to the current leveling tier. This entails cooking Tier II Travel Rations from 1 to 50, Tier III Light Meals from 50 to 100, Tier IV Satisfying Meals from 100 to 150, and finally Tier V Hearty Meals from 150 to 200. This would mean chasing after Fishing Hotspots in order to catch higher tier fish but it also means more XP per craft and a stockpile of higher tier Recovery Foods which you can either use yourself or sell on the Trading Post. Hotspots are special areas in fishable water that have a large gathering of fish. There are Broad, Rare and Secret Hotspots and you can discover and track more and more of these as your Fishing level increases. When cooking Tier III foods and above, these should be your priority spots as they yield more of the higher tier fish, which in turn can be salvaged into higher tier Fish Filet and other materials. The following are the material requirements for each leveling bracket:

Level 1 - 50

Travel Ration or Energizing Travel Ration (144 Total)

  • 144 x Firm Fish Filet or any Tier II Raw Foods
  • 144 x Fish Filet

Level 50 - 100

Light Meal or Energizing Light Meal (276 Total)

  • 276 x Tender Fish Filet or any Tier III Raw Foods
  • 276 x Firm Fish Filet
  • 276 x Fish Filet

Level 100 - 150

Satisfying Meal or Energizing Satisfying Meal (395 Total)

  • 395 x Delicate Fish Filet or any Tier IV Raw Foods
  • 395 x Tender Fish Filet
  • 395 x Firm Fish Filet
  • 395 x Fish Filet

Level 150 - 200

Hearty Meal or Energizing Hearty Meal (508 Total)

  • 508 x Fish Roe or any Tier V Raw Foods
  • 508 x Delicate Fish Filet
  • 508 x Tender Fish Filet
  • 508 x Firm Fish Filet
  • 508 x Fish Filet

  • Delicate Fish Filet can be salvaged from Electric Eels (Freshwater; Brightwood, Everfall, First Light), Speartooth Sharks (Freshwater; Cutlass Keys), Stingray (Saltwater; Cutlass Keys, Monarch's Bluffs) and Swordfish (Saltwater; Cutlass Keys, Everfall).
  • Fish Roe can be salvaged from Sturgeon (Freshwater; Brightwood, First Light, Monarch's Bluffs) and Paddlefish (Freshwater; Cutlass Keys, Monarch's Bluffs).

Remember that each primary ingredient (the first in each list) for each recipe above can be substituted for any other raw ingredient within their tier, while the remaining ingredients in each list can be substituted for any other raw ingredient. This allows for a plethora of options when trying to fulfill recipe requirements. For the Tier III Tender Fish Filet ingredient, a great substitute is Squid Meat. Squid Meat can be salvaged from Squid which you will come across quite often while fishing.

The following table lists some of the easier to obtain materials for each tier and where they can be found:

Cooking Tips
When first starting out make sure you pay attention to the drop down menus for food. The game will default certain ingredients for your recovery foods and food components. You can select from a vast array of ingredients to craft those foods, and some of the ingredients are MUCH easier to come by than others. Be careful not to use rare ingredients that were selected by default when crafting your low tier food.

Selecting rarer ingredients does not enhance your lower tier food. If you utilize higher tier ingredients for the “Raw Foods” Option you will have a chance to craft additional items, but the quality of the food does not change.

Worth noting here is that you can place your ingredients (works for all crafting not just cooking) in the storage in a settlement and still access those ingredients at the cooking station. You have to be in the same settlement that you have the items stored in, but you do not have to have them in your inventory.

A quick note about the UI. You may notice that while cooking there is a message that says “No bonus can be added to this item.” That area is reserved for other crafting professions. For example, if you use an Arcana station you will be able to apply special resources that will cause your crafted item to have a specific perk, and you can craft using Azoth which will increase the chances of your item having attributes and gem slots. Because the consumables you craft with cooking do not have attributes or perks, you do not have those options available.

Different Types of Foods and Buffs

Food in New World is broken down into 4 different categories. Each category of food ranges from Tier 1 to Tier 5 (You can view all foods and their buffs in our database):

  • Recovery Foods
  • Attribute Foods
  • Trade Skill Foods
  • Food Components

Recovery Foods are used to recover both health and mana. Health Recovery foods will allow you to recover X amount of health (the higher tier food the more health you will recover) per second for 20 seconds, but the recovery will stop if damage is taken. Afterwards, you will recover 1% of your health every 2.5 seconds for X minutes (the higher tier food the longer the duration).

Mana recovery foods are called “Energizing” rations or meals. This type of food will grant you increased mana regeneration rate by X% (the higher tier food the higher the regeneration rate) for X minutes (the higher tier food the longer the duration).

You will have, by default, the recipes to craft all 5 tiers of both types of recovery food beginning at level 1. However, in order to craft the tier 5 recovery food you must work your way up to 150 cooking and be at a tier V crafting station or tier V camp.

Attribute Foods are broken down into the following:

  • Strength Foods
  • Dexterity Foods
  • Intelligence Foods
  • Focus Foods
  • Constitution Foods

Attribute foods will increase the specified attribute for a specified duration of time depending on the tier of food you craft. These foods also grant you health recovery while the food buff is active.
Trade skill foods are broken down into both crafting and gathering foods. For each gathering profession you can craft a food that will increase your luck by a specified amount, and for each crafting profession that has associated gear scores you can craft a food that will increase your minimum and maximum gear score for crafted items for a specified amount of time. This applies to the following:

  • Weaponsmithing
  • Jewel Crafting
  • Engineering
  • Arcana
  • Armoring

The last category of food, called food components, are simply ingredients that are used in other recipes but have to be crafted first. For example, cooking oil is used to craft Game Meat Skewers. In order to get cooking oil you must first craft some by using fish oil and nuts.

Where to Find Recipes

By default you will have access to all tiers of Recovery foods, but will only have access to up to tier 2 for attribute foods, tier 2 for gathering foods, and tier 3 crafting foods.

The remaining recipes will have to be found throughout Aeternum by looting provision containers. The higher the tier recipe you are looking for, the higher tier zone you are going to have to venture into in order to find the recipe. Recipes do NOT drop from every provision crate. They can be tough to find so it may take quite a while to obtain the recipes you are searching for. Recipes that are found are tradeable so you can purchase them from the trading posts as well.

A rough look at what zone contains which tier recipe is as follows:

  • Tier 3 Recipe - Level 16 - 38
  • Tier 4 Recipe - Level 36 - 58
  • Tier 5 Recipe - Level 56+

How and Where to Find Cooking Ingredients

Cooking ingredients in New World can be obtained in multiple ways. You can skin animals for meat, go fishing, loot provision crates, harvest crops from farms, harvest herbs for spices, and of course buy ingredients from the trading post.

Obtaining meat, fish and crops is pretty straight forward. Kill animals and skin them for meat, go fishing for fish, and harvest crops at the farms for crops like carrots, broccoli, squash, etc.

However, spices and other ingredients can be a little harder to come by. Some ingredients are region specific and can only be found in provision crates in that specific region. See the chart below.

Spices in New World are another ingredient that can be a bit tricky to track down. Spices are obtained by harvesting herbs in New World

Your chance at obtaining a spice when harvesting an herb is largely based on your harvesting luck and skill level.

Also worth noting are the attribute bonuses you get from both dexterity and intelligence. If you are trying to fully min/max your harvesting for cooking ingredients these attribute bonuses are worth taking. If you’re wanting to skin animals and obtain as much meat as possible, the dexterity attribute has the following bonuses related to skinning:

  • +10% skinning speed
  • +20% haste for 3 seconds after skinning
  • -10% weight of skinned items
  • +10% skinning speed (now a total of 20% increase)
  • +10% yield when skinning

The Intelligence attribute has the following bonuses related to harvesting:

  • +10% harvest speed
  • 5% chance for 1 azoth when harvesting
  • -10% weight of harvested items
  • +10% harvest speed (now a total of 20% increase)
  • +10% yield increase when harvesting

The tools you use will also play a big factor in how efficient you will be when obtaining your cooking ingredients.
