How to install and configure the RogueLite mod, to play your favorite part of the game over and over again!

Intro

I made a roguelite mod for the game that limits the game to Act 2, Leshy's Hut and keeps track of your score as you go. I wanted to play it over and over again, and I bet other folks do to. Here's how to install the mod, and what changes it makes.

Please let me know if there are bugs - I hacked this together instead of watching Dune in about 3 hours so it's probably bad.

Install

Please note that the patch probably requires a completed save file. I'm not sure, but it probably does.

Installing the game is as easy as downloading the patched binary here[filebin.net] or here[alterupload.com] (looking for permanent hosting - if the game's not there, check the comments), and dropping it into the "Inscryption\Inscryption_Data\Managed" folder, replacing the original game assembly of the same name. If you're not sure where to find that folder, clicking on the Steam "gear" icon and clicking "Browse Local Files" should take you right to it.

How to Play

Launch Inscryption. Go to chapter select (Esc, from the start menu) and select the 2nd chapter (the first chapter is the tutorial). You should load into a game with most everything unlocked, with the following tweaks:

• It is impossible to progress to the next chapter.
  
• Nearly all events from the first chapter have been triggered in advance, so you get the card unlocks.
  
• After each battle, a score card appears, displaying the total amount of teeth you've collected into the currency bowl, and the number of turns you've taken in battle on the run. I figure this lets folks keep score, at least in a small way.

PS: I didn't unlock thebee figurine, squirrel head, greater smoke, or extra candle. They warp the game too much. You can unlock them on your own though.

Future Work

If this hacky little mod is a success, there's a lot more I could do here. If the devs ask me to take it down I will. Otherwise, if people like it, I will add:

• Dedicated hosting for the mod.
  
• Better decompilation/modding process.
  
• Patcher for new versions (you'll have to return to this guide to download it again if you want updates).
  
• Git repo so others can pull/fork make things better or do their own.
  
• Remove even more dialogue/tutorial events.
  
• Optional configuration file for tweaking the game just how you enjoy it.
  
• Better score keeping.
  
• etc.

A few nights ago I started work on completely cleaning a decompiled version of the main game assembly. In contrast to using dnspy to edit tiny parts of the game one at a time, this decompilation work will let me make much broader changes to the layout and behavior of the game. However, it's a long process - the game decompiled to source that has about 1000 build errors, which have to be corrected one at a time for the most part. I'm down to about 600 now. I plan on creating a v1.0 of this mod with many of the features mentioned above once the decompilation work is complete and the game is back to running.

Thank you for playing the mod. I love this game, and I'm glad there's enough interest to justify my work here. Cheers - more to come!

Mod works only for steam version. I have GOG and when I change .dll file to yours, game starts launching steam...

When I try using this mods with others mods for this game (https://inscryption.thunderstore.io/) it crashes. I think there is a conflict between this mod and BepInEx (which allows to make mods for Inscryption).

I couldn't even uninstall your mod, as even replacing the .dll file back to the original one still let the issue, I had to redownload the game entirely.

Mod sound good, you should try modding with BepInEx, like every others modders, so that everyone is at the same place ! There is alot of amazing mods available already, hope to see more.

Hey, cool idea for a mod, I'd love to try it but the website that's currently hosting the file just puts out an error every time I try and download it and it makes you wait 60 minutes between tries

Looks like the dev updated the game while I was out of town. Working on decompiling the game otherwise I'd fix the loading screen error folks are experiencing. Decompilation will unlock the rest.

@Meow so you call this file a virus (which it isn't, most likely a false positive) yet the very "virus" isn't even up for download at the time of your post. Cmon man...
