FS Gr 880 Locomotive

ITALIANO

Locomotiva a vapore gruppo 880 costruita in 60 esemplari ed ottenuta, successivamente, anche dalla trasformazione delle più vecchie 875 (quantità totale 88 locomotive). Si tratta di una piccola loco-tender con rodiggio 1-3-0 ed a vapore surriscaldato (in luogo di quello saturo, utilizzato sulla 875).
La locomotiva era studiata per le linee secondarie della penisola e per l'effettuazione di servizi passeggeri, con frequenti partenze ed arresti. Il progetto si dimostrò un successo.
La macchina venne usata in tutto il territorio nazionale e venne anche noleggiata a FSE.
Allo stato attuale, solo tre locomotive sono funzionanti; diverse unità sono state monumentate all'aperto o in museo. Il resto, ovviamente, è stato demolito.

The steam locomotive group 880 was built in 60 units and subsequently obtained from the transformation of the older 875 (total quantity of 88 locomotives). It is a small loco-tender with 1-3-0 running gear and overheated steam (instead of the saturated one, used on the 875).
The locomotive was designed for the secondary lines of the peninsula and for carrying out passenger services, with frequent departures and stops. The project proved to be a success.
This locomotive was used throughout the national territory and was also rented to FSE.
At present time, only three locomotives are in working order; several units have been monumented outdoors or in museums. The rest, of course, was demolished.
