Best character guide
By Tip
A simple guide which tells what choices need to be made to get the best character possible. Pretty good for players who would like to read the game like a book. But I'm warning you when you do it this way, it feels a lot more like reading a shounen with an op protagonist rather, than reading a book about a cavalry officer faced with tough decisions.

Introduction
This is a guide to getting the best character. I just suddenly wanted to make this after playing through the game with a character that I think is probably the best character possible. And I knew no one had made a guide just about getting the best character yet. (at least I think no one has) This is also the first guide I have ever made, so if there is anything wrong or weird then that is most likely the reason for it.

I got help for a lot of my playthroughs from bb's guide and so I implore you to check it out as well.

It is very helpful when trying get all the achievements. My guide will help you get a good chunk of the achievements as well, but bb's will help you get them all.
I did also get a bit of my inspiration for making this guide from using bb's guide.
Also just like in bb's guide I will note where you can choose anything but if you deviate from the path it might mess things up.

Here is what the characters stats should look like at the endgame.

You probably noticed that the characters stats are not as high as they can be in other playthroughs that is because the characters age at the start was 14. And while having a character that is older would be easier, and also allow you to learn basic Antari, in this game instead of possible learning it in Guns Of Infinity. Since you wouldn't need to raise your intelligence anymore at that point.

I myself think it is better to have a younger character, so that is simply my own preference.

Also I did this with a high idealism and high mercy character, but you can also do it with something else like cynicism for example, by just changing some minor choices.
Prologue
Try to talk to some of the other junior officers and get some advice.

Try to offer some excuse explaining my lateness.

[Choose First Name]

[Choose Family Name]

(I chose John Wick if you hadn't already noticed.)

The eastern plains, where Fernandescourt stands. Home to some of the best horsemen in the Unified Kingdom.

Age 14.

A set of books on philosophy and the natural sciences.
Training montage
"Cornet [First Name] d'al [Family Name], at your service."

[Optional] Ask Cazarosta about Elson's bruises.

[Optional] Ask Cazarosta about Elson's book.

Ask Cazarosta about himself.

I excuse myself and get some sleep before tomorrow's training.

This regimen is impossible! I am barely surviving!

I do all right, but academics have never been my strong suit.

I have already become friends with many of my fellow officers.

[Choose Any]

Practice sparring and marksmanship with Cazarosta.

Stay behind: I must to try to help Elson.
Ship battle
I brush up on my knowledge of the League of Antar.

Take command! We should not leave the conduct of the battle to a mere sergeant!

I hold up the boarding party and try to figure out what it is.

Be cautious: We can hold midships and force the Antari to come to us.

[Achievement: Decorated]
Noringia
Of course. I would not turn down a chance at leisure before I receive my orders.

Play Tassenswerd.

I select a sergeant and assemble my unit first.

Decide that none of these men will do. Lanzerel is still unassigned, might I request him instead?

Requisition a horse from the official stables.

Name the horse what you want.

(I named the horse Daisy cause ya know John Wick)
(P.S i have never watched John Wick but I googled the dogs name.)
(P.P.S At some point I watched John Wick. It was pretty good. I guess.)
Attacking the Antari with Hunter
Drill my men relentlessly.

A chance for a glorious victory.

Damn the horses! Ride at full speed!

[Optional] Ask my sergeant for advice.

Set the seals exactly as the diagram says. Hopefully, Captain Hunter knows what he is doing.

Cut firing loops.

Care for the horses.

Block the road.

"Mount up! We're going to charge the enemy!"

Generously: I split the money between my men, leaving none for myself.

Maybe the Gazette ran out of space to print whatever Elson had done to deserve his promotion?

Request cavalry reserve duty.
Reserve duty
[Optional Questions]

"No questions sir."

Extra shot and powder, for a protracted fight.

To be prepared for anything.

That this moron will shortly get all of his men killed. He must be dealt with.

"Lieutenant Carrecort, you are a disgrace to His Majesty's Army. Since you seem so uneager to save your men, I shall have to do it for you. I am assuming command."

I am a better leader.

Try a frontal assault.

Lieutenant Carrecort clearly has much to learn about the art of command, censure him.

Keep the weapon for myself.

Return to patrol duty.
Patrol duty
I pick the Eastern route. The men and I could use some easy duties for a bit.

Approach them: Ask what they are talking about.

Back off and just give them their orders.

Threaten to go to Major Hunter if he does not tell me the truth.

Tell them that I am under Lefebvre's orders to offer them assistance.

Find the others.
(You don't actually even have to find them in order to do the next step or tell them Lefebvre sent you, so I think you can also choose any if you want.)

Tell Major Hunter.

[Achievement: Heaven Knows, Earth Knows. You Know, I Know.]
The new command
I feel very confident! I am sure I will get a new command soon!

Remain at the Duke's Service to ingratiate myself.

Ask the Duke if I could read his books.

I pick the men from my old patrol.

[Optional] "Staff Sergeant Lanzerel, what's your advice?"

I have them clean their equipment. If they look like proper soldiers, they will feel like proper soldiers!

If the army refuses to house my men properly, I shall have to rent better for them myself.

[Optional] I ask my staff sergeant for advice.

Have him pay recompense; six months' wages should do it.

"My men stand as ready as they'll ever be. They won't disappoint you."
A cunning plan
[Choose Any]

[Choose Any]

I haven't decided quite yet.

Eat with Cazarosta.

I stick to small talk.

Actually, I've got a plan of my own I'd rather we use.

My brilliant plan will assure us a glorious victory!

I would have Cazarosta do it.

"I think you should do it sir."

[Achievement: A Cunning Plan]

Take the Antari commander captive for ransom. Allow the rest to leave.
The reception
[Achievement: Compleat Soldier]

I reassure Elson that our recent victory will make our uniforms recognizable enough.

[Optional Questions]

I excuse myself and retire to my room to prepare for the reception.

Take a look.

If only we allowed our women to fight alongside us! Not only would it allow us to replace lost soldiers faster, but it would allow Tierra to field a larger army.

Name, rank, regiment, titles, decorations: everything. I want to make as big an impression as possible.

[Choose Any]

Listen to the Duke of Wolfram's conversations with his senior staff.

Speak with the Takaran envoys.

[Optional Questions]

I take my leave.
The Battle of Blogia
"Absolutely sir, I am confident in our chances of victory."

I actually am confident in our victory.

Find Cazarosta.

Spend some time with Elson.

I spend the evening with my men.

Remind Elson how vital our regiment's task is likely to be.

Elson is right, if we win against Hussars, our glorious deeds will stand forever!

[Choose Any]

[Choose Any]

"What shall be our next move?"

Hide in a castle while the rest of the regiment fights for glory? Not a chance!

I re-arrange my men into a better formation.

The enemy has been bloodied, and my formation is still intact. It is time for us to cut our way out.

It is our imperative as men of honour and soldiers in the King's service to charge!

[Achievement: For Ruin and the World's Ending]

[Achievement: Rose, Harbour, Dragon, Tower and Wolf]
Epilogue
[Optional Questions]

[Achievement: Knight of the Red]

[Achievement: National Hero]

So that's it. I will probably edit this a bunch more later, but right now it's 2:00 AM so this will have to do. I hope this has been helpful to you, I might also do another guide for continuing this character in Guns Of Infinity at some point in the future. I thank you for using this guide :)

Edits made to the guide:
Mostly just fixed some grammatical errors.

@TheSirGawain Yeah it's because of Thunder probably. I chose the requisition horse mostly just because you get the opportunity to name it yourself also it saves a tiny bit of cash and health. The reputation gain is not enough for getting Thunder to be worth it imo, but it is a pretty minor decision in the grand scheme of things.

P.S Health might have an effect in later games.

I did everything you said except for optional dialogue and ended up with a 103% Reputation. I don't know why the rest of my stats are the same. Unless it's cause I took Thunder as my horse which I chose as the only downside is 10% health loss which doesn't seem to have an effect.

I think for any other age the decisions are exactly the same except your starting region, which should be the capital. That way you get +8 int and +8 cha instead of +5 soldiering. If you start at 14 that screws you over because with less than 30 soldiering you either have to sacrifice Caz's friendship or your first decoration, but at any other age it's fine.

You can learn Antair as an option in the "New Command" chapter. For this guide, that option was not chosen.

@AHTF´184 Been thinking of working on a guide for continuing this character, but haven't really gotten around to it yet.
AHTF´184 Jan 26, 2023 @ 7:57am
Not sure if you will see this, but wondered if you have or are working on a guide for guns, with this starting character?
Tip  [author] Apr 15, 2022 @ 3:18am
@oy Velsnuk I mean that when you are at the dukes service if you are older you can learn Antari. Since you don't need the extra int that reading the books gives. But if you are 14 in this game you can still learn Antari you just have to do it in the next game Guns Of Infinity. Sorry for the confusion i wrote that part a bit weirdly.

You say you learn antari but you dont specify that choice anywhere. Is it automatic if you chose your start age as 14?
Feral Beagle Oct 19, 2021 @ 9:41pm
Good stuff! It's really hard to play well as a 14-year-old character, so I thank you for this guide!
