Description
All in all, Defence platforms are rubbish. Unless you want to keep an aggressive AI at bay for a decade in the early game, there's never a reason compelling enough to build them. This is due to the fact they never compete facing the massive fleets that some warmongering players can manage to rally in 2230, making the survivability of less-experienced or defensive players very questionable unless they match that fleet with theirs.

This mod aims to rebalance them in order to make them viable in the early-mid game of multiplayer. They are cheaper, stronger and you can build more of them.

At the start of the game, a silent event pops for every non-fallen empire which does the following :

- Increase max number of defense platforms to 12
- Reduce their cost by 50%
- Increase their build speed by 50%
- Increase their damage by 66%
- Increase their hull by 33%
- Increase hull and damage of basic starbases by 50%

You're right. Ships are overpowered compared to starbases. Once you get neutrons it's over for starbases. I couldn't touch ships to avoid upsetting the meta of the servers I play in. However I wanted to make starbases viable till about 50 years into the game for multiplayer games, to give time for beginners to build fleets

hmm, it maybe because starbases are not so underpowered (i think they are) but ships are overall overvpowered? i mean the game litteraly revolves arround fleets. I am not sure if starbases can be made though fortresses to crack trough because game never intends them to be.

As far as I remember (I haven't been modding for a while) ion cannons are considered defense platforms and benefit from the same bonuses I've used in this mod (like the build speed)

Can you do something about the build speed of defense platforms and ion cannons? I've yet to find a mod that treats those with the same bonuses as are applied to starbases.

I completely agree. But it does seem like no matter what I do, as soon as neutrons enter the scene, starbases get back to being useless again

while this is a good idea, i believe you over-did it on some stats.
