Fallout Online Roleplay (FORP)
By Weiß
The [FOnline Roleplay] project is a role-playing project in the Fallout universe based on the FOnline engine (a multiplayer modification of the Fallout 2 game). It has absorbed the ten-year history of various FOnline role-playing projects.

The goal of FoRP is to create an interactive sandbox where the player can feel like a part of the legendary world of Fallout.

Introduction

FoRP is a client-based online-only game aimed at player interaction and the interweaving of game stories. The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system, the combat system, the character development system — all have been redesigned for the online game.

Instead of the usual global map of California, players currently have at their disposal a limited territory with balanced settlements, each of which has its pros and cons, history and goals. FoRP is a local story about small groups of people and their relationships and conflicts.

Some locations are practically uninhabitable due to the radioactive background or not sparing wild fauna, in others cruel raiders appear too often, and in the third, behind impregnable walls and deceptive valor of the authorities, corrupt schemers are hiding, capable of hanging anyone to whom the local mafia points a finger.

It's a cruel world, people's moral boundaries are flexible and often blurred — there are almost no unambiguously good or bad characters left in this story. Any trust must be earned and it can be betrayed at any moment.

In order to get into the game, it's enough to simply register a character in the game client. It will be level 1 and without starting things, and you are free to play, upgrade, earn money and get yourself equipment from scratch.

If you want to play as an experienced character with developed skills, who has a weapon in his holster and money in his wallet, you will need to write a short Character Backstory for your game character.

In the game you will find almost no quests in their classical sense. Almost all quests and their plots are tied to the players or the factions formed by them. Your character is a part of the world, and his motives, desires and inner psychology will become the basis for your fascinating role-playing experience.

The plot of the game is a continuation of the story of Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, but it is unlikely that you will meet familiar faces, although perhaps your hero has heard about some of the events of the past years.

Your character's weapons and equipment are wearing out and require repair and timely maintenance.

A well-thought-out system of crafting items — with due effort, the right skills, materials and the level of technology development in a single place, you can produce almost anything - from bandages to the most powerful weapons and equipment.

Many aspects of the original game have been radically redesigned towards greater realism for better role-playing immersion. Treatment and lock-breaking, installation and neutralization of traps - separate mechanics are tied to all this, which do not allow to perform an action in one click in a fraction of a second.

In the game, the characters are thirsty and hungry. Surviving under the withering sun has become much more difficult. You can get food and water for survival in various ways: hunting, farming, fishing, buying from merchants, robbery.

The battle takes place not in turn-based mode, but in real time, adding drive to tactical maneuvers and making dynamic battles among groups of players possible. The character's skills are just as important here as the player's skill. If you are unfamiliar with the original combat system or PvP servers, we recommend starting from the beginning with non-combat, peaceful roles.

One character, one story, one life. If your character dies, it's forever. Value the life of each of your characters as your own and think about the consequences of your actions and words.
The playable region

Riverdale - the town with rather dark history and even darker secrets hidden within its walls... Located on Republic lands, it's future is yet to be figured. Welcome to Riverdale, wanderer, welcome to the peaceful town where the wolves, lurking outside the city walls are less scarier than the ones crawling within them. The place which will give you home and protection or take the last from you, the place that will prosper and grow, or fall down to the pit... The place that awaits your decisions and actions. But shall you never forget that every decision you make has its concequences.
How to start

RPG - Role-playing Game

The main goal of an RPG is not to become "the coolest of all”, not to "get APA and Gauss rifle” and not even "to massacre the Enclave base alone, and get a sea of EXP”. The main purpose of an RPG is to play a role, or just to play. RPG is a unique genre. It is impossible to win or lose in it, and in it you play not only for yourself, but also for others.

What does it mean? The success or failure of a player is determined not by his level and a million-dollar bank account, but by how he/she got used to the role and became part of the world. Believe me — you can get more pleasure from playing a character of the first level than a character of the twelfth — it all depends on how you and those around you play. Remember — you are playing not only for yourself, but also for others. If you DON'T play, you are harming not only yourself, but also others. Your goal is to become a part of the world. This is difficult to do when only you are trying to become such a part. There is a lot of theater in role-playing act, in fact, every role-playing game is a theater in which everyone plays their role, guided not by scripts written in advance, but solely by their own considerations about how the character being played would behave in a similar situation. And each player is both an actor and a spectator, and his most severe critic.

Where do I start learning how to Role-Play?

Perhaps a basic advice for novice players will help you with this:

A role-playing game is like a game in which there is a living person behind each character. Another comparison is a theater in which there are no prescribed roles, there is only improvisation.

In RPG, the main thing is communication. Communication between players and communication between the player and the world played by the Game Master. A person who is acting alone deprives himself of 99% of the pleasure of role-playing.

Get used to the role! Remember your favorite books and movies - would you like to do what their heroes do? Great! You have such an opportunity. But you will get full pleasure from this only if you get used to the role.

You can do ANYTHING. Absolutely everything. Well, at least trying to do it, is not a fact that the world will allow you to do it.

For example, if you murder everyone you meet, the city guard will start hunting you down... if you kill the guards (which is unlikely), the army will start hunting for you. It's like a snowball — as a result, the world, which is a rather elastic thing, will return to the status quo. So, there is a single exception to this rule. You can't get out of the role. There is no such thing at all. Roughly speaking“ "everything you say, do, think, and so on..." you do in the WORLD. And keep in mind that the reaction to the question "How many HP do you have?”, may vary. At best, they will ask you what HP is, at worst, they will consider you a dangerous madman.

For your own good, PLAY. Forget about the world that was left outside. You are your character, and your character is you. Live it.

It is highly recommended to create your character with an eye on his role! Distribute the stats according to his biography, career, character traits and physiology. Avoid min-maxing (understating and overstating stats for the sake of gaming advantages) and other extra-role motivation. The character creation stage is very important and your whole future game depends on it. If you doubt whether your character will effectively fulfill his role and functions (doctor - heal, mercenary - shoot) with this set of stats, you can always turn to more experienced players, they will help.
Guidelines for creating and maintaining good role-playing atmosphere
● Repair, treatment, resuscitation, crafting — all these actions do not happen instantly. It is considered the norm to act out this action with emojis for some time. Even if you are too lazy to treat for a long time, you can always write: I took the stimulator from the first-aid kit, injected the stimulator.

● It is not necessary to greet everyone you meet with the phrase "hey, what's your name?” Talk to the person, get acquainted, if he deems it necessary — he will introduce himself, most likely.

● Children are not visible in bushes or thickets. Namely, characters with skins of children \ midgets. If a couple of thousand coins were stolen from you, but a petty thief disappeared, for example, in a corn field, his pursuit should be stopped.

● If the situation is such that you are forced or want to kill someone, then it is worth playing it as much as possible. Even if your wife was killed, say something like “I found you, you bastard! Now you will answer for everything!”. Or in some other way show the player about your intention to attack.

● Do not judge the appearance of a character by the skin. That is, if there is some trifle in the character's skin, then this trifle is not necessarily in the character's appearance.

● Use “<,>” (turn keys) when addressing a character, it is not always clear who you are talking to.

● A rare conversation with an NPC is not a sin. Ask the NPC “How are you?"or "What's new?" - not a mauvais ton.

● The characters also need to rest, eat, drink, do not be lazy to act it out.

● Corpses don't talk, unconscious people can't have a sober dialogue (they may rave, moan, etc.)

● Corpses do not remember faces and do not hear.

● People can't see with their backs.

● The character must match the character described in the Character Backstory. If your character likes to make a row in bars, he should arrange them. If not, it's better not to write it.

● If a character goes on a journey from his home or camp, it would be nice to stock up on at least a bottle of water.

● Do not loot corpses if it does not fit your role. Don't farm monsters if it doesn't fit your role.

● Fat (and not very) tradesmen, doctors, technicians, scientists and others who do not tend to shoot - when leaving a safe place, hire some body guards.

● Having a desire to repair a gun, sell some more or less monetary thing, etc. do not do it yourself. Look for people with such a profession and ask for help, or offer money, and it's better for you (the trunk will be repaired better, you will get more money from the goods) and you will find other jobs.

● Also: if you were put in the negative HP, but the doctor didn't save you, do not get up right away and do not run shouting “I will find [censored], tear off [censored] and shove it into [censored]” It's better to get up, look around, ask people around to help you get to the doctor, walk slowly, stumble, hold on to the walls, beat, you've just returned from the other world!

● If you are playing a craftsman, doctor, farmer, etc., when attacked by bandits, robbers, soberly assess your strength and respond appropriately:
If they demand money / give things, life is more expensive;
Do not push yourself and do not be rude to robbers, it looks quite illogical at the barrel of the gun;
React to shots / blows during torture-interrogations accordingly, and do not spit on everything like a Terminator (Character Backstory is not an excuse).

● If you are captured, act based on the situation, for example, a half-dead character cannot escape from the imprisonment. Do not run away if you are tied up, handcuffed or have a broken leg.

● React to super mutants and ghouls according to the role-playing, and not like they are big teddy bears (it's strange to see so many activists for the rights of mutants in the Wasteland).

● A person approaches you, you see how "he looks at you." Realizing that the engine does not allow you to recognize features, it is considered a good tone to describe yourself, or if you don't want, write "turned away so that his features are poorly visible", or even "hid his face" (even shorter), or simply "walked past without attracting attention".

● A person appears in the distance with some effect, for example, "in the dark of the night you distinguish an approaching silhouette." Of course, it would be logical to assume that the owner of the silhouette could not notice you, so for him your "silhouette froze at the entrance to the city."

● You come to the city, you are still an immigrant. You were given a job, a simple one – to do something that you can do. Crush the powder? Well, "push the roots in a mortar, occasionally pouring the contents into rags, and then roll them into knots," and not silently shout "craft" button.

● Facial expressions, fine motor skills, finger movements, interaction with the details of your equipment costume - everything is worth attention. What the game engine doesn't show, you can show.

● You are interacting with someone. Drag the wounded, treat the wound, repair the weapon... he "stretches out his hand \ thing \ something", you "take \ look \ pick up". Details decorate the world.

● Work. It is everywhere where there are human players. Often, the task that you receive implies not so much the execution of it as the wagering of the process. The better you play— the more you get. More tasks means more money.

● It would be nice, in addition to Character Backstory, to role-play your Stats as well. That is, for example, if someone is trying to deceive you or plotting, the player guessed about it, but the character's intelligence is below average.

● Specify normal names when registering a character. Otherwise, after a perfectly played conversation, it will not be pleasant for a GM to see “leet_xxx” in the documents.

● For fans of reading: reading can also be played, for example: "reading a book", "flipped a page", "closed the book".

● Sometimes it's not bad to "give in” to an opponent and play along. Do not forget that you are not only role-playing for yourself, but also for others.

● You should not express your thoughts with emotions. An emotion is your action that is visible from the outside. If you write an emotion thought, then the course of your thoughts is visible on your face, and the person who noticed it will clearly understand what you were thinking.

● Each character (if you are not a homeless person for RP reasons) should strive to have their own housing.

● About thieves and burglars. If you are acting out a house or room break-in, do not try to take as many things with you as possible. It is better to take one thing, and other things (for example, clothes or all sorts of junk) slightly scatter around the house to create the illusion of disorder

● As for pickpockets, this is perhaps one of the most difficult and subtle roles. It is not necessary to steal the most valuable things. It's better to take something insignificant for the victim. Assess your capabilities sensibly. Never steal from players who are in afk or who have gone offline. As for the victims — if you see that the thief player is really trying to do it beautifully, and not just take your valuables and run away - play along with him. Remember that the fate of the thief character depends, on you too: by revealing his identity, you will deprive him of his main craft and the pleasure of the role.

● Violence and bullying. There are a lot of villains in the Wasteland, but do not forget that you need to role-play not only for yourself, but also for the sake of others who play with you. Try to keep the heavy injuries of the characters to a minimum.

● If your character has a high perception score and you see someone behind the wall in the game, it does not mean that you see a person.
Chat and chat commands

Game chat
Players communicate during the game in the same way as in most online games.

Pressing the Enter key opens the text input line. After entering the message, by pressing Enter again, the written text will appear above your character's head.

In addition to the usual conversation, there are 3 other types of communication:

1) Emotions
Used to describe the actions of the character. To write an emotion in a chat, use “/e” or ".e" before the description, or “ * ", while “ *" can be written inside the phrase

2) Whisper
This type of message will be marked in blue and visible only to you and your interlocutor, who is no more than 3 hexes (steps) away from you. To write an emotion in a chat, use “/w” or ”.w" before the phrase.

3) Scream
This message will be marked in red and automatically all letters will be converted to uppercase. To write an emotion in a chat, use “/s" or ”.s" before the phrase.

4) Walkie-talkie

The walkie-talkie is a tool for communicating with other characters located anywhere on the server.

To set up a walkie-talkie, use the "hand" on it, enter the necessary communication channel and press the red button next to the channel number. To say something into the walkie-talkie, use "/r" or ".r”.

The following commands are available to players, which are entered through the chat window
~myinfo - Is used to output a unique ID for your character. ID is necessary to speed up communication between the player and game masters (Gamemasters—GM) — they will activate your character using it and give you unique items and starting experience.

~lex The description text is entered here, stating with a capital letter and without a dot at the end. The command to change the external description of the character (what other players see with "binoculars" (the context menu is called by pinching the LMB) on your character).
Example: ~lex On the neck is tattoo of the Brotherhood of Steel

~ilex Taking an object in your hand, you can give it an additional description (for example, "the blade was bloody"). Each item can have its own story. If you add a description to your armor and put it on, it will be visible when you click on your character with binoculars.
~ilex with a space clears the description.

~naked Command to reset the skin to standard. Be careful - you will not be able to return everything back without the “Appearance Change Kit” item or without the help of a GM.

~suicide. If there is a weapon in the active hand of the character, it kills the character with animation.

~deleteself <password>. Serves to delete your own character.

~sf - fall face down, type again in order to get up

~sb - fall face up, type again in order to get up

%1-7 - make a roll (dice roll - random number generator) for the selected stat of SPECIAL, the number corresponds to the ordinal number of the stat, where 1 - S is Strength and 7 - L is luck. In addition, you can throw any dice, for example, to throw d100, it is enough to write %1 100.

~desc - Leave a description on the hex under the character. Used to add atmosphere or to describe something important. To delete someone else's description on ground, you need to put a space and enter in the window that opens, standing on it.

$help - write an in-game request to all game masters who are online. It is more effective to do it through discord, but if you are sure that GM is online, then it will not be worse.

After you have created and registered your character, you can customize the description of your character through the ~lex command.

And put the avatar of the character through the #auth command
This command opens the Browser, you need to upload the avatar there.
ALT+M panel

For convenience, many separate mechanics have been invented that are worth knowing about.
When you press the ALT+M keyboard shortcut, an interactive window with your character's settings opens for you to interact with.

@farmer billy We have raider characters, you can kill people freely. What you need is a reason. It's general fairness that you don't go around killing everyone willy nilly, well you can but I wouldn't expect your character to last very long. Anyway, this post is seriously out of date, the game has moved onto it's third session in Arizona. We're playing with Sonora lore and its map.
