New World Settings
Updates
Updated 2021-10-6
- Added NVIDIA Inspector section This section can really help if you have a low-end NVIDIA graphics card

Notes
** Expect low FPS in populated towns

** Not all settings will increase FPS, but can increase the overall performance such as latency and loading times

Open the game and click settings at the top right to open New World Settings.
These settings will make your game look bad, however you will get more FPS and will be able to see things more clear. If you wish to make your game not look so bad, I recommend putting some settings on medium/high instead.

I have highlighted the settings that are more significant than others, and you may pick and choose what you want to sacrifice for more FPS.

Preferences
  • Bandwidth Mode: High
Recommended high if you have fast internet, otherwise, put medium/low.

  • Enable Analytics Reporting: Off

Visuals
Before customizing your video settings, set Video Quality to Low first. As suggested by u/Potential_Mango6857, there's no setting for antialiasing and other settings too, the game will get these "hidden" settings from the "Video Quality" preset setting, so if you run the custom preset you'll get antialiasing on.

Set Video Quality to Low, then change your settings below after.

  • Window Mode: Fullscreen

  • Resolution: Native resolution
Your monitor's resolution. Choose a lower value for more FPS but your game will look blurry

  • Field of View (Vertical): 50
More FOV, less FPS however a lot of players are unable to play with low FOV

  • Video Quality: Custom

  • Effects details: Low

  • Lightning details: Medium

  • Object details: Low

  • Post processing details: Medium

  • Shadows details: Low

  • Terrain details: Low

  • Texture details: Medium-High
Choose low if you have a low-end computer

  • Water details: Low

  • Show FPS: On

  • V-Sync: Off

  • Max FPS: Uncapped

  • Player Nameplate Amount: 2-5
Test this setting to see what you can handle

  • Cap FPS in Background: Off

  • Dynamic Resolution Scaling: On

Make sure to meet the minimum specs or you might have serious trouble with running the game.
NVIDIA Inspector
Tutorial
Using NVIDIA Inspector we can lower the LOD Bias even more than you can using the game's setting page.

NVIDIA Profile Inspector: https://github.com/Orbmu2k/nvidiaProfileInspector

Recommended number without losing much quality: 0.3750
Extreme number: 0x00000078
* Using high numbers may result in objects and terrain clipping with animals, mobs, and players.

If you do not have an NVIDIA graphics card, you can use alternative software like HiAlgo[www.hialgo.com]

Great Guide Just wanted to put my 2 cents If you have a gsync / freesync compatible monitor you need to have vsync on with gsync to get rid of tearing!

I had some serious eye/brain sore issues with the graphics of the game from a fresh install. I would not be playing the game if not for this guide. I highly recommend checking this out even if you have a beast of a machine.

Thanks for the guide. This is a strange one - but I recommend adding a note to uninstall Citrix. For some reason recently having Citrix Workspace installed is maxing my frames at 10fps. Uninstalling it then restarting brings them back up to normal/expected levels.

@maik-a.r.90 does this happen only to New World? Try another demanding game and if it keeps happening your GPU might need new thermal paste, i had the same problem 1 year ago.

@devcor , agreed. it might be because the game graphic optimizations are so so bad. different between 4k lowest graphic setting ( without negative lod bias ) and 1080p lowest graphic setting ( with negative lod bias ) is just 12-20 fps and its kinda so wird tbh
Rogred Oct 7, 2021 @ 7:13am
@devcor , dude turning that setting alone down to "high" made me have a steady 72fps with everything else on "very high". Thanks for pointing that out
k1 Oct 4, 2021 @ 6:38am
5600x + 2080 on 1080p high is in towns 90-110 and open field around 140-210 fps. After the fixes I get 95-120 in town and open field 150-220. But I prefer the graphics so ill stay on High but ir fixed some input lags!
LilBlkCloud Oct 3, 2021 @ 5:21am
I'm not able to set the game to high priority for some reason. I get an error window: Unable to change priority.
