Common Farms
In Colony Survival, you get a wide range of farms to work with. In this first section, we'll take a look at farms that are available in all biomes.

Berry Farm:

The Berry Farm is the first farm made available to you and it is an immediate food source that doesn't have to grow and can be picked and turned into berry meal.
It has a ratio of 1:3 (meaning for every 1 colonist working in it, you can feed themselves plus 3 other colonists).

The optimal size is for the berry farm is: 5*5 - 25 squares

When considering the time it takes for farmers to collect and drop-off the berries, a 5x5 square plot is the most efficient. It will get you more berries per day.

Ingredient Farms

Berries are the only meals that can be turned into food by the farmers themselves. All other farms provide ingredients for the cook to make into dishes. These are:

  • Berry Meal - 1:3 Ratio
  • Breaded Meal - 1:4 Ratio
  • Perpetual Stew - 1:4.5 Ratio
  • Luxury Meal - 1:5 Ratio

Wheat Farm

Wheat takes 2 days to grow and can be turned into bread after being ground up on the grinder and cooked in the oven to make some delicious Bread.

The optimal size for the wheat farm is: 10*10.

@Achim made a guide that, if you let the farmer plant all the wheat and then break half of it, although it won't increase the production of wheat it will provide a more stable daily income of it.
Since every other day wheat is harvested, by having half of them ready on one day and half of them the next day, you get a nicer looking graph and can help avoid bottle necks by trying to guess how much to produce per day.

Because of the different speeds each step of the Wheat -> Flour -> Bread process, you're going to be looking at 1 Baker (oven), fed by 2 Millers (Grindstone), and supplied by 6 Wheat Farmers.

Barley Farmer

You must be thinking to yourself: "Now why in tarnation would I plant something I don't even get to USE as an ingredient?"
I wondered that myself. Surely chickens could just eat wheat or maybe seeds, but, alas, we must contend with our picky Barley-Eating-Chickens.

The optimal size for the barley farm is: 10*10

BEWARE! Chickens, even at their most efficient, will require between 2 and 3 full size Barley farms!

Chicken Farm

Speaking of hungry, hungry chickens. They do provide 3 different materials: Eggs, Chicken Meat, and Feathers for our precious arrows!

The optimal size for the chicken farm is: 3*3

Be sure you have your barley farms already being harvested before putting one of these down.

Bee Farm

These little things are just about as important in game as it is in real life. From their honey in cooking and wax for your bows, candles and bags, these guys don't require any other support farms. Unlike certain aforementioned flightless birds.
(Some can actually fly really high and got over my fence in real life LMAO)

The optimal size for the bee farm is: 3*3

Fish Farm

Land locked and craving some fish? No problem, with the fish farm you can get loads of fish. Don't expect any lobsters though.

The optimal size for the fish farm is: 5*5

Cabbage Farm

The optimal size for the cabbage farm is: 10*10

Olive Farm

What? Did you really expect me to eat this dry?
Thankfully our pall colonists know how to make some delicious olive oil. Just setup a plantation and the Millers at the Grindstone will get it to ya.

The optimal size for the Olive Farm is: 3*9 (3 Trees)
Functional Farms
These farms do not provide your colony with food per-say, however, they support you in your endeavors.

Quick Tips on Efficiency
On a final note

Although these are the most efficient farm setups, there are a few things to consider.

How close are the crates to your farms?
How close are your farmers to their farm?
How safe are your farmers?

All of these can affect your game. Different terrains, monsters, and even other players can change the way you setup your colony. It can be a creative and dynamic game, if you allow yourself.

Whether it's the Old World, The New World, the Tropics, or even the East. Take time and care to setup your colonies. Look at the graphs and watch their routines!

cant berry bushes go to 48
