How To Truly Reset Undertale (For Windows)

A simple yet effective guide to "truly resetting"/wiping Undertale on Windows.

Disclaimer

This guide (as far as I know) works exclusively for Windows.
I can't guarantee this guide will work on Windows models other than Windows 10.

P.1: Locating Contents of Game

1. Open File Explorer.


2. Open the category This PC.


3. Open the drive Windows (C:).


4. Open the folder Users.


5. Open the folder named after which Windows user Undertale is located on.


6. Open the folder AppData.


6.1. If the folder isn't present, make sure that hidden items are visible. You can view hidden items by opening the View tab near the top of the window and checking off the box Hidden items.



7. Open the folder Local.


8. Open the folder UNDERTALE.

P.2: Wiping the Game

Assuming that you've opened the UNDERTALE folder, you should now be seeing 2 configuration files and, depending on how much of the game you've played, at least 1 regular document. (In my case I've already wiped the game, so there are 0 regular documents.)



Before you delete anything, make sure that Steam and Undertale are completely closed.
You may be risking corruption if you fail to do so.

To wipe the game, simply delete all of the files inside the UNDERTALE folder.

And you're done!

In case this doesn't work for you, it might mean you have enabled cloud storage of your save files which means your save files get redownloaded from the cloud whenever you start the game.
To avoid this, disable cloud storage: Right-click the game in your Steam library, select 'Properties...', and disable the Steam Cloud setting in the 'General' tab (the default tab).

After you have disabled cloud storage, delete the save files as described in this guide and your game ends up in a fresh state.


A note about operating systems:
The basic idea of this guide, delete save files and restart the game, should work for every operating system, as the game can only react to the loss of save files by starting the game anew. You only need to find the save files.
