Optional Mission Guide (Abandoned for now)

WORK IN PROGRESS! This guide will go through all the optional missions starting with Lu Bu and ending with Jin.

Lu Bu's Story- Getaway from Hulao Gate

Getaway from Hulao Gate has one optional mission which is needed for hypothical.



Optional Mission: Rescue Hua Xiong
Recommended character: Lu Bu
Unlocks: Needed for Hypothical route

This optional can be abit tricky if you are not fast since you need to rush to Hua Xiong who is at the north of the map and beat Dian Wei and then back to Dong Zhou before he dies, this is why i recommend you use Lu Bu because of red hare.

Remember, Red hare can run through a unlimited number of troops without being stopped.

Lu Bu's Story- Uprising at Chang'an

This mission has two optional events, both are needed to unlock hypothical ending.



Optional Mission 1: Tame the tigers
Recommended character to use- Any
Unlocks- Battle of Changshan

Around the map tigers will spawn in a certain room when you run into it, this mission can be annoying if you don't know where to look, below are screenshots of each location, they do not change to the best of my knowledge.

After all tigers have been tame'd go and beat Dong Zhou then continue with the mission, you will know if it has been successful due to dialog




Optional Mission 2- Ensure Wang Yun's safety
Recommended character to use- Any
Unlocks- Required for hypothical route

This one is pretty simple, after you have beat Dong Zhou run back to Wang Yun

Lu Bu's Story- Battle of Changshan

Battle of Changshan has one optional mission which is needed for hypothical.



Optional Mission- Rescue Yuan Shao's forces 3 times
Recommended character- Lu Bu
Unlocks- Needed for Hypothical
Prerequirements- Need to of tame'd all 3 tigers in Uprising of Chang'an

This optional mission is pretty simple, just ignore Yuan's orders at the start and stick close to him.

Rescue 1- Rock attack

Kill your target AND the gatekeeper



Rescue 2- Fire attack




Between rescue 2 and 3 two enemy officers will spawn going to your camp, deal with them ASAP and then get back to Yuan, STAY IN FRONT OF YUAN FOR RESCUE 3


Rescue 3- Ambush attack
Gates will close on Yuan Shao leaving you behind if you are not infront of him

Lu Bu's Story- Battle of Dingtao --SPLIT POINT--

Battle of Dingtao is the split point between Historical and hypotical



If you have done all the optionals to this point Hua Xiong who you rescued at Hulao gate will appear and have a yellow marker over his head, speak to him to go the hypothical route.



To continue with the Fictional route speak to the gatekeeper with the purple arrow over his head.

Lu Bu's Story- Battle of Shouchun (Historical route)

Battle of Shouchun in the fictional route has one optional mission.



Optional mission- Pursuade Zhang Fei
Character- Lingqi for the guide since Zhang Fei spawns differently for each
Unlocks- Appears at Showdown at Xiapi
Prerequirements- None

Continue the mission as normal until Zhang Fei gets bored and calls his horse.



Zhang Fei will vanish from the main camp, just continue the mission as normal until this dialog appears.



For Lingqi he would of appeared at the south west of the map, if you have jumped off the ledge you would of had to run all the way around past the ballista where Lu Bu is fighting

Lu Bu's Story --END--

Lu Bu's story has no hypothical optional missions and does not come with Xtreme missions since Lu Bu's story was added with Xtreme. I hope you enjoyed Lu Bu's story mode, coming next will be Wei.

Wei's Story- Escape from Luoyang

Escape from Luoyang is pretty simple, it has one optional objective which is not needed for hypothical.



Optional mission- Defeat Lu Bu
Character- Any (Beginner mode or strong character)
Unlocks- Additional dialog in Hulao gate

It is as simple as it sounds, at the start of the level just turn around and pursue Lu Bu, warning he is strong.

Wei's Story- Battle of Xu Province

Battle of Xu Province has one optional mission and it can be annoying



Optional mission- Quickly defeat Tao Qian
Recommended character- Dian Wei
Unlocks- Battle of Puyang

Equip the Equestrian skill



This optional can be very annoying, the clock starts as soon as the fire attack starts.


Just rush to Tao Qian, with the equestrian skill it should make it abit easier, use the horse musou on long stretches to speed it up abit..

Wei's Story- Battle of Wan Castle

Battle of Wan Castle has 3 optional missions two of them are needed for hypothical route and one is needed for a new stage.



Optional mission 1- Do not let Dian Wei die
Recommened character- any
Unlocks- Needed for Hypothical route

I am unsure what the trigger for this is so I will write out what I did. I choose Dian Wei as my character, saved Cao Ang and Cao Anmin and followed the plan and somehow he survived. If anyone has infomation of the trigger please tell me.



Optional Mission 2- Rescue Cao Ang and Cao Anmin
Recommened character- Any
Unlocks- Needed for Hypothical route





Not hard just rescue them when you can.

Optional mission 3- Let Cao Ang and Cao Amin die.
Can not be done the same time as Optional Mission 2
Recommended character- Any
Unlocks- Battle of Xiapi



Do the stage as normal ignoring them, this will be completed.

Wei's Story- Battle of Mt. Bailang

Battle of Mt. Bailang has one optional mission which is needed for hypothical route



Optional mission- Make sure Guo Jia survives
Recommended character- Zhang Liao
Unlocks- Needed for Hypothical

Pretty simple, just stay close to Guo Jia all the mission, if you chose Zhang Liao he will have to protect Guo Jia anyway, he will say a line of dialog near the end of the mission if you have done it correctly, you will be stood in a large room witn Guo Jia for a while, just wait there with him until he decides to continue.

Wei's Story- Battle of Xinye

Battle of Xinye has one optional mission which is needed for the hypothical route.



Optional mission- Capture Xu Shu
Recommended character- Any
Unlocks- Needed for Hypothical

Another simple one, all you need to do is beat Xu Shu before rescuing Cao Ren.

Wei's Story- Battle of Chibi --Split Point--

Battle of Chibi is the split point for wei's hypothical and historical.



If you have done all the previous optional objectives the cutscenes will be diffrent and you will have two options.



Speak to Cao Pi (purple arrow) for historical route

Speak to Guo Jia (yellow arrow) for hypothetical

Wei's Story- Battle of Mt. Dingjun (Historical)

Battle of Mt. Dingjun has one optional, its not really needed unless you like Xiahou Yuan.



Objective- Defeat Huang Zhong
Recommended character- Xiahou Yuan (for extra dialog)
Unlock- Xiahou Yuan will appear in future missions

Do the mission as normal until Huang Zhong appears and rush to him and kill him before he escapes. The Equestrian may help.

Wei's Story- Battle of Fan Castle (Historical)

This optional mission is not really needed unless you are a completionist as this is the final mission.



Optional mission- Rescue Pang De before he retreats.
Recommended character- Any
Unlocks- Pang De will be in the ending cutscene

Do the mission as normal but try to be fast, when a soilder starts talking about Pang De being in trouble rush to him and kill all the officers attacking him.

Wei's story- Campaign for Jianye (Hypothetical Route)

The Campaign for Jinaye has one optional which will make your life easier in a future mission.



Optional mission- Force 5 supporters to surrender.
Recommended Character- Any
Unlocks- No enemy support in Xu Chang.

Pretty simple to do, just defeat every officer in the castle. Sun Quan will surrender without a fight when you reach him if the is done correctly.

Wei's Story- Defence of Fan Castle (Xtreme)

The Defence of Fan Castle has one optional mission and unlocks another stage.



Optional Mission- Protect Wei officers from the flood attack
Recommended character- Any
Unlocks- Pacification of Jing Province

This objective can be abit tricky, follow the stragety as normal DO NOT KILL THE OFFICERS YOU NEED TO LURE after you have lured one, 3 messangers will appear, rush to the meeting point which shows in the image below and let them run into your blade.

when the messagers are delt with continue luring the officers back into the castle they will still follow you if you are on horseback. When you have lured them in rush to the flood gates and beat Guan Suo.

Continue and finish the mission and it should be completed.

Part 2 of Response (Stupid 1000 char limit)

It's not difficult at all on the easier difficulties to save the son and nephew as Dian Wei can really fight for himself, unless you're on Chaos or Ultimate. Once you get up to Fan Castle is when you should rush the point and slice the people about to slice your family in half, into half. Dian Wei should still be really alright and after he's hit with arrows, just watch after him up to the gate and deal with the ambush troops, he just stands at the gate and does nothing.

After that all you have to do is be careful to not let his health out of your sight and keep his path clear of all enemies. Save your musou and rage for the last part.

All you have to do to stop Dian Wei from dying is to play as Dian Wei, or constantly stay close to him as Cao Cao up to where you have to save Cao Cao's eldest son Cao Ang and nephew Cao Anmin. As long as your fellow officers' AI is not distracted by infantry, Dian Wei should be programmed to follow Cao Cao wherever he goes. This makes it simpler to both keep Dian Wei safe and rescue Cao Cao's nephew and son.

There is no HP drain set on Dian Wei after he gets pelted with arrows and stabbed straight through the chest. Time is always important because every single battle you play on is on a time limit of 1 hour.

Oh, forgot to mention I think time is important because your allies specifically say that time is of the essence because of Dian Wei's injuries.

For the condition requiring you to prevent Dian Wei from dying during Wei's Story- Battle of Wan Castle, I think the key is to race through as quickly as possible. It's a bit frustrating because of the ambush that you have to foil/set up, but I raced around on horseback and chopped everyone down (got a few levels on Equestrian while I was at it) then sprinted for the final battle.

I also used the same strategy to save Cao Ang and Cao Anmin. When I was unable to save one (stupid fan trap), Dian Wei didn't survive, so they may also be critical to saving him.

About Lu Bu's Story- Battle of Changshan : I replayed it 3 times to make trigger happen. For rock attack you need to wait Yuan Shao to enter and get trapped. Instantly kill guard and then he should ask for help, only after that kill every officer into rock ambush zone.
If you enter before him and just kill everyone, he will just stay near rock blockade and will do nothing until you continue and trigger second or third ambush yourself.
So, point this - always wait him to trigger ambush himself.
