Beginner Guide
I've been asked to bring this guide back by a number of peeps.. & from the number of requests on the forums for how to do certain things.. hopefully this will help..

I'm only bringing back the YouTube version.

Note: This is not the only way to play.. but it does continue on from the in game tutorial and shows how to combine all buildings to create a solid foundation to then play anyway you choose.

It is still valid since the 3 DLCs as it takes 10 things to be researched to open the DLC content (Prosperity) and you need 3 utensils (this will take time) and 3 research points to research the Balloon Station to unlock the Distant Places DLC.. (if you have them)

Either way.. it's recommended to finish this tutorial before messing with the DLC's if your not a seasoned veteran of the game. :)

The Halloween DLC (Decorations) is free and can be used from the get go.

And of course, this tutorial does not provide Commentary.

My top 10 tips for Early Game..
Here are my 10 tips to start a Normal game in conjunction with my video tutorial above.

1. **** Forget everything you learned from other games in the same genre.. Endzone works the opposite ****.

2. Pause the game when you first start.

3. Use 'J' to turn off and on Planning mode (best to leave it on throughout your game).
Resources will not be consumed until you manually unpause a building if enabled.

4. Set your Limits to no more than 1500 with the exception of food (25,000).. Water (90,000) and only increase by 1000 at a time so settlers are freed up from their jobs to move things around (it's their secondary/default job when limits are reached)

5. Only build 2-3 buildings at a time so they are completed in a decent time and are not waiting too long for resources. (make sure they do not have to travel far during early game)

6. Do not build a crap load of cabins (many think this is the way to do it but is the #1 reason for failure).. for most it is a sure way to fail.. build upto 10-12 cabins at the beginning.. (slowly in groups of 2-3)

7. Click your town hall and set what you want to be prioritised.. Repair buildings.. Build buildings and then Build Roads to start with.. then change this order as needed throughout your game.. return to this build order when finished.

8. Get your Expedition station up first and then your Research Station second.

9. Explore all ruins first.. make the hospital your first expedition to secure some Iodine tablets for radiation sickness until you can make your own pills. (do not mark this or some others for salvage as they will respawn some loot)

10. Get a Trading post up and running as soon as you can.. (preferably within the first 50 seasons) you want to prioritise Iodine Tablets for the same reason as #9.

Some worthy mentions for research.. Advanced school.. Refinery.. Solar panels / Batteries and the ultimate goal of the Scrap Catcher.

Bonus Tip: Turning off the Geiger Counter noise & Blue Edging around the screen in-game:
- main menu>options>game
- Then uncheck 'Radiation Effect'

Bonus Tip 2: Press shift whilst clicking the mouse button to change the mode for increasing/decreasing settlers when assigning from 1 at a time to 5 at a time to jobs.

Bonus Tip 3:
-
It takes 25 food per Season per adult and 5 food per Season per child.
- This is also the same for water.

Hope this helps with getting started in Early Game.

ok... first.. im not saying your wrong.. my actual game play is very much different to this tutorial.. hence why its called a 'Beginner' tutorial... it was made prior to several items like the well being introduced... for those beginning the game to have an example of how to start.. what they do after using this tutorial is up to them... you can play many different ways... the goals of this tutorial is to show how to combine buildings to work together.... so they do not rage quit,,, please read the heading... 'Beginner' write an advanced tutorial with your views.. but i will not change something that has proven time and time again to teach peeps how to play. thanks for your comments... even if they are more advanced than this tutorial.

Cisterns are expensive and use a lot of manpower. You shouldn't use them at all. Build a well. It takes 1 stupid, and uses less of your starting resources. Is usually good up to around 30 pop when you should build a second well. After that you should be building water towers.

At the very beginning.. cisterns are necessary until about season 15... then yes you are correct.. so i won't add this as they are used early

Would only add. Never, ever, under any circumstances, build a cistern. Build wells until you can build towers.
