Warnings and Advisory's
This guide can be used with any game with some modification,

Some of the settings in the photos are for my streaming and are NOT related to getting quality music to play over your mic!

Mess with your settings at your own discretion.

This will require you to run a program any time you use your computer, but fret not little one. The program uses little resources and has a restart button in case any drivers or codex get messed up.

Also be advised!

I have a headset with two audio channels that is picked up by my PC, This allows me to adjust game volume and music volume without using the computers interface! YOU MAY NOT HAVE THIS FEATURE! Dont worry if not, Some of this guides steps will be redundant if so.
Required Programs
- VoiceMEETER Bannana (or equivlent)
~~~ Can be downloaded for FREE here --> https://vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/banana.htm
- VB-Cable Virtual Audio Device
~~~ Can be downloaded for FREE here --> https://vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm?gclid=CjwKCAjw9uKIBhA8EiwAYPUS3IW8ZxW1UpAxi99znwq5aHldeegc0MgOUv7iTevsnMtvMMB99FZDbRoCIBcQAvD_BwE

- Music of some sort ~~ This tutorial will be based on using Spotify but can easily be replace with any application that produces sound such as YouTube with sound from your web browser.
The Set Up
Download and install the following programs.

Assign all audio devices accordingly! (refer to the images below for a step by step)

Right click your sound on your task bar, Click "Open Sound Settings"

Scroll all the way down and Click "Sound Control Panel"

(these may not matter, This is a just in case) Sound config should look like this

(these may not matter, This is a just in case) Record config should look like this

Ensure that you have VoiceMeeter set as your default communication device AND your default device! You should do the same with your primary microphone to iron out any communication issues with your OS and steam

Next, go back and click "App Volume and device preferences"

Find your program, works with any program that produces sound, chrome included, Here i use Spotify.

Click the top for output and assign it to the "Speakers (VB-Audio Virtual Cable)" This will make any sound produced by that program ONLY go to that cable. Meaning it will not come out unless you assign it too.

Now for VMB,
1. Assign your cable to one of the slots by clicking one of the bars at the top left as snown with a red circle and assign it to "WDM: CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) If it is not there, make sure it is not disabled in your sound settings OR restart your PC so the driver is seen properly by your PC

2. Enable the output of that device (the virtual audio cable) to A1, This basically says "hey sound, go to this device"

3. Assign your output devices but MAKE SURE they are the same codex (WDM), Here i have three i use for various things. the astro A50 has two channels "game" and "voice" i use them for "all sound" and "music" This is also a way to make it so music from spotify cannot be herd on a stream! This basically says, "hey this is where i want you to go sound"

4. the slider circled in red shows how much sound you want from that device, you can adjust however you feel.

Ensure that "VoiceMeeter Input (VB-Audio VoiceMeeter VAIO)" is selected as your sound device by Left clicking your sound on your task bar.

Ensure that You have VMB sending that audio to your prefered audio device, In the photo below i have my music going to A1 while all other sound going to A2, If you do not have a dual channel headset, Send to A1. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP OR YOU WILL NOT HEAR SOUND ... and cry about it. No tears little bardling...

NOTE:
This process will make the sound you set EXCLUSIVELY go to your ears, not your desktop, so people will not be able to hear the music if you record the desktop. it is completely separate now.
The Execution
It is time little bardling,

While in game, Hit escape and go to options,

Go to Voice,

Set "Input Device" to CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable)
This can be change whenever, back to your microphone.

See the Advanced section to how to turn this into voice AND music!

Hold your assigned voice button for that sweet, sweet music and enjoy!

All of this can be reversed without installing anything, Simply set your output and input to whatever you used before!
Advanced (under construction)
This section will cover some QoL improvements such as:

- How to hold the button down the entire time with and without programs,

- How to inject your voice into the audio so you can talk and play music

How to hold the button down and play the game as the same time ---Low Tech---

You can literally use anything that will apply constant weight to a button, i use 25 US Pennies held together in duck tape, while assigning the PTT to F6 (an unused button)

NOTE: Some actions will stop the transmission requiring you to take off the stack and re-apply.
Also note, I have a multi-button mouse so moving the PTT does not effect play or use of PTT for me.

How to hold the button down and play the game as the same time ---High Tech---

(Under Construction)

How to inject your voice into the broadcast

This is a relatively simple step,

First, Assign a microphone under the same codex (WDM)

Next, ensure that the "B2" button is turned on for both your mic and your cable output,

This is saying "hey banana, i got a mic sound and a music from a cable, inject it into your B2 AUX (which act as another virtual audio cable)"

Lastly, Turn your input device to " VoiceMeeter Aux Output (VB-Audio VoiceMeeter AUX VAIO)" Now you can speak and play music (dont forget to mute your mic!)

To keep things simple, Turn off "B2" for the CABLE Output on VMB when you are done being a bardling so you don't accidentally play music when you are trying to speak

I use AutoHotkey

F4::
Send {NumpadAdd Down}

(F4) makes (numpad +) register as held down until I press (numpad +) again. Change (F4) and (NumpadAdd) to whatever works for you.

Sweet, do you know how to do it? because if i knew it would have been added in the "high tech" section of the guide but is labeled "under construction" as i dont know how.

About the holding button to play music you can actually do that with macro scripting
Winter's Sin  [author] Feb 8, 2022 @ 3:25am
What seems to be the issue?
KennyG Feb 7, 2022 @ 12:28pm
Hate this. I've been fumbling around with this crap on 3 occasions and can never get the shit to work
Reload28 Feb 6, 2022 @ 8:19am
I tend to have a lot of problems with my music cutting out though, it tends to work better if you A)turn off microphone (phyiscal mute or set it to not use mic while playing) B)Pause the music, unpress and repress your PTT and restart the music and C)mess around with the noise to see where the game's noise suppression stops cutting it out (again, foxhole seems to stop at around 77 or 80 DB)
Winter's Sin  [author] Feb 6, 2022 @ 7:04am
You know i have that app and i didn't even think to add that to the guide.
Reload28 Feb 5, 2022 @ 7:30pm
Note: If you're fancy and have Mp4 files and $5 to spend then there's an app that steam sells called "SoundPad", you can record and play audio with it, set it to 80 or 77 DB in preferences and you should be good to play stuff
Pennies are still needed tho
