All Five Essences

This is where to find all five Essences, as well as what they do and how to avoid them. Includes tips for finding and controlling them.

Locations

Most of the Essences are included in a strange diamond building labeled ???, except for the Essence of Fire, which is hidden in some water under a strange statue.

Oh, and in case you haven't tried to pull a boundary break yet nor didn't know about the map, this will go beyond the cave. You will have to go over the cave and over the tree. On the bright side, if you didnt ever know that the map went beyond the cave, you can find a bunch of new things. On the DARK side, you're going to find a bunch of new things and will probably kill yourself, so only go for the essences right now before you look at everything else.

-The Essence of Water is in ironically, The Work (Hell). There will obviously be a lot of lava, so try to find some way to make yourself fire resistant first.
-The Essence of Earth is at the top of the eastern wall, at the very edge of the map. Though you can climb it without problems, its much faster to use one of the leg perks.
-The Essence of Air is right in the center of the Cloudscape. There are a bunch of enemies up there that are really powerful, so watch out!
-The Essence of Spirits is in the deepest depths of the lake on the surface. The lake is REALLY deep, so try to get a water-breathing perk (or, if all else fails, find a way to drain the lake somehow.)

The Essence of Fire

"Your entire being is fluctuating!"
One of the easiest to find, the essence of Fire is usually one of the first essences to be found (of course, counting on someone breaking through or climbing the tree at the beginning.). When collected, it will cause you to periodically explode. Don't worry about the explosion, because you aren't directly harmed by it. What you do need to worry about, however, is the fire. You can still set on fire, and it can be really hazardous around gunpowder or other flammable things. Try to keep a bottle of water on you, or some way to keep explosions and fires from hurting you.

The Essence of Water

The Essence of water is usually the hardest to find, being hidden literally all the way at the bottom of Hell. When you finally get to it, through all the lava and fire, that means you're going to have a good benefit against the lava, right? WRONG. All it does is spawn MORE lava through transmutation projectiles, and doesn't give you any benefit. However, if you do manage to get out alive somehow, the projectile will home in on enemies, quickly killing them. Though you can have fire resistance, there is no way to stop damage from the lava easily, so I suggest gathering tons of healing orbs, or managing to get to the hearts in holy mountains.

The Essence of Earth

If you didnt think of going through the tree at all to get to the Essence of Fire, then this was the first Essence you would find if ever on accident. Most people go over the cave before the tree, and some curious people would go to the end wall and climb up it. When you collect it, 8 explosive magic bolt projectiles are launched in an octagonal pattern. destroying the terrain and setting off explosives. The small explosions can damage the player, so try to bring explosion immunity.

The Essence of Air

Your being controls the air around you!
The Essence of Air is incredibly difficult to get to without dying, as you have to climb to the center of the Cloudscape, which is filled with very tough enemies. On one hand, this is one of the least powerful Essences, where it only shoots bursts of air in a tight circle, pushing away powders, enemies and objects. On the other hand, this makes it one of the least dangerous towards you, save for accidentally breaking potions and fragile explosives.

The Essence of Spirits

That was not the best of ideas...
The Essence of Spirits is the most difficult to get to, hidden at the bottom of the lake, to the point where you'll need the breathless perk. This is also one of the most dangerous perks, adding a whiskey trail to all spells from a wand. This causes significant amounts of fire, heavy lag if enough builds up before burning, and the constant whiskey making it hard to aim. This means that you can easily kill quite a few weak enemies, but your aim becomes terrible for all other enemies that are fireproof or not as affected. You'll need both fireproof and breathless perks to avoid this essence.

Tips for Essences

A good tip for this is that before you go to find the essences...

-Stock up on health by trying to at least get to the Base or Jungle through Holy Mountains. You can also look around for Orbs to heal yourself with.
-Try to find a way of easy digging through the ground, as you'll have to find a way back up the cave or down to Hell. I personally use the Black Holes.
-Try to find the following perks: Peace with your Gods (As you'll be digging through holy mountains.), Fire/Explosion Immunity, Unlimited Spells (For easier digging with bombs or TNT), One of the two Leg Mutations (for easy climbing)
-Accounting for if you have the most important perks (Fireproof, Explosionproof and Breathless), easiest order for the Essences are: Fire, Earth, Spirits, Air, Water.
