Welcome to Survival. Your mission: Survive

Survival is all about surviving. That is why it is called survival. Two of the most important things that you should keep in mind when playing survival is:

1. Focus on your actions. Think about what you are doing and what you need to do.
Survival is an "in the moment" kind of game mode. There will be consequences for everything you do. Some good and some bad.

2. Be aware of your team. If someone is shooting you, get out of their line of fire as quickly as possible.
It's normal that most of the damage that you take will be from friendly fire. Whether it is a bile bomb thrown in the wrong spot, or a poorly thrown Molotov, or even "shrapnel" from a pipe bomb. I will share more tips on how to limit friendly fire later on in the guide. see "FRIENDLY FIRE" in the guide for more information.

Your team is the most important part of surviving survival. If you have a bad team then you won't last long.

Remember, in order to help your team.... You must first help yourself.
Spotting GOOD players. (What to look for)
When joining a game there are a few things you should take into consideration once you spawn.

1. The people who you are playing with.
2. The map you are playing on.
3. What weapons are available.
4. Locations that you can camp in, retreat to, etc.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO SURVIVING IN SURVIVAL IS HAVING A GOOD TEAM.

If you don't have a good team.... you're probably going to die.

Anyway... Here is what you should look for when evaluating a player at a first glance.

Good players:

COMMUNICATION They will communicate plans and converse with other members of your team. It is also good for YOU to communicate with the members of your team. Say hello and offer suggestions as well as listen to them... this way you will show them that you are friendly and willing to work with others as a sufficient team member.

COOPERATION: If you think you have a good idea then you should share it. If you have a defiant team member then you are probably going to die.

ABILITY TO COMPREHEND
New players will often be slow in reacting to intense emergency situations. Give them tips. Help them out. If they make a mistake just let it go. However, there are times where you NEED to drop dead weight in order to survive in the middle of the game (Leaving them to die). Other than this... a good player is always willing to learn how to improve and try their best in doing so.

I will add more in this section at a later date.... please leave some suggestions in the comments if you think I missed anything!
"Hey are you guys ready?".... Communicating that you are set for the fight.

I cannot stress how annoying it is when people start the panic event without everyone being ready.
Survival is a TEAM game. TEAM GAME. Therefore, it requires a decent amount of communication between players in order to have a successful outcome. Some players like to gather supplies in order to stay alive longer. Some players like to gather weapons so that they aren't stuck fighting without ammo. Most players like to prepare before they start the panic event.

Just because YOU are ready doesn't mean that the rest of your TEAM is ready. If you want to play survival alone, then make a friends-only game and don't invite any of your friends.

For those of you who don't do this..... I suggest that you ask the person to wait for the rest of you to be ready before starting the event. If they do not communicate and do it a second time, I strongly suggest that you initiate a kick-vote. This may seem harsh, but if you want to actually get somewhere instead of always reaching two minutes and having to restart, then I suggest that you do so.
Locations and Moving...... What to look out for.

This section is not going to tell you what the best camping spot is in every map. No....
This section is going to tell you what to look out for when choosing a spot. Here's a list.

1. Never defend out in the open. You are too easy to pick off and in large crowds of commons, it's easy to lose teammates. The number of spaces that the commons are coming from should never be more than the number of teammates you have.

2. There should never be only one way out. Try to avoid small rooms or areas with only one entrance. The reason for this is that you always need to be able to run if needed. Especially when there is a tank blocking the only way out.

3. It's best that you have a "Rally Point" as I like to call it..... The Rally Point is somewhere that you can fall back to if you are being overwhelmed. Situations in which this would happen are if two or more of your teammates are down, or if you get separated from your team. If you get separated from your team, you can meet back at the Rally Point. However, this is not always possible so you must improvise!

4. Ammo piles, Medical supplies, and other items are usually a a bad space to camp at. Supply spots are usually placed out in open areas or areas that are high risk. High risk areas include: Areas that are high off the ground or in open areas. It is ideal to gather supplies before starting the panic event.

5. If you ever need to move, always communicate to your team that you are moving. It is best that you wait for one of your teammates to respond to this. Keep it short and simple. For example;
You: "Running for a Kit! Cover me!"
.....wait.....
Your Teammate: "Okay. I've got you covered" (or something along the lines of "Okay".)
Friendly Fire! Friendly Fire! (Information on friendly fire and how it happens)
MOST OF THE DAMAGE THAT YOU RECEIVE IN A GAME OF SURVIVAL IS FROM FRIENDLY FIRE.

That's right..... You read that correctly. Read it again if you don't understand.

With every round that you accidentally put into your teammates back is 10 seconds of good time wasted. It is also a waste of ammo. No one likes to be shot. Especially when they are in a situation where it requires them to focus on large amounts of zombies running at them.
Most cases of friendly fire come from people running in front of other people when they are shooting. I personally find this pretty sad and funny.... Here's something....

I have been playing paintball for four years and I would consider myself a veteran of many hectic "deployments" as I like to call them. Out of all the times I have played paintball and out of all the games I've played, I have never been hit by a single "friendly round" ever. This is because I did not run in front of people while they were shooting. I, of course, occasionally shot some of my own teammates because they ran in front of me. Man, I lit them up.... I didn't say sorry though because they were the one that ran into my "fire lane" without paying attention. I actually shot a referee once because he ran in the middle of the field. I got a penalty and had to sit out for 45 minutes. It was terrible.

What I'm getting at is that if you're going to run in front of someone, expect to be shot multiple times or "lit up" as they say in paintball. When and if you get shot, you have no right to be upset. It's simple.... you ran in front of their barrel and you got shot.

Now, there are the people who shoot their teammates and I call them..... Panic shooters.
These are the people that unload entire clips at a time. They often tend to shoot at Specials without caring about their poor teammate that is caught in the cross fire.
Read the next section to learn about ways to limit friendly fire.
How to limit Friendly Fire
These are some ways to limit the amount of friendly fire that you deal and receive. If all of your teammates follow these tips then you are bound to survive for a while.

1. ESTABLISH FIRE LANES.... LET YOUR TEAMMATES KNOW THAT YOU'VE GOT A CERTAIN AREA UNDER CONTROL.

I have played so many games where a special infected approached me and I managed to either dodge them or counter their attacks. I was fine..... Until my teammates began to concentrate all of their fire power on that Special Infected. Unfortunately for me, I was caught in the crossfire and received A LOT of damage from their bullets. No one can control what other people do..... But you can control what you do.

2. DON'T RUN IN FRONT OF PEOPLE LIKE AN IDIOT.

Be aware of where your teammates are at all times. If one of them steps in front of you while you are shooting, try to stop shooting as soon as you can. Try to move so that they are not in your line of fire. If they move in front of you again, let them know that they need to stay out of your way. That includes you..... don't run in front of people that are shooting.

3. THROWABLES. (Molotov's, Bile Bombs, and Pipe Bombs)
The most damaging of throwable items are the Molotovs......
Talk about friendly fire........
A poorly thrown Molotov can destroy your team in less than 20 seconds. Make sure you throw it away from your team. Never throw a Molotov right at your feet. It's not a good idea.

4. HEAVY WEAPONS (Grenade Launchers and M60 Machine Guns)

Don't choose it if you don't know how to use it.
Grenade launchers..... they're so easy to use!
WRONG
Grenade Launchers hurt your team a lot. A LOT.
NEVER aim at zombies right in front of you and shoot. Your teammates should be doing that for you. If they aren't then you should keep a melee weapon at hand. When using a grenade launcher never aim right at the zombies that are running at you. It's a grenade launcher.... not a rocket propelled grenade (RPG\ Rocket Launcher).... meaning that you have to consider your enemies distance and the height at which you must aim in order to make a successful delivery. The higher you aim, the farther it's gonna go.

As for M60 Machine guns......
Watch where you're shooting and remember the tips listed in the beginning of this section.
Before God, before their mothers, they call on us. (Combat Medics)

This section is for those people who are the "Medics" of the team.

Their goal is to help out everyone.... leave no man behind... and do whatever they can to save lives.

COMBAT MEDICS RULES
1. Good men will die
2. The combat medic can't save everyone
3. Combat Medics will go through hell to break rules 1 & 2

Here's something from a Rangers handbook that might help you.

If you're the Medic.

1. Keep an eye on your teams health.
2. Use pills if you are in a stable environment.
3. Assess the situation. Use pills instead of Medkits whenever possible.
4. Only take pills when you need them.
5. Share your pills.
6. Use adrenalin to pick members up from being incapacitated.
7. Only use medkits when you absolutely need them.
8. ALWAYS have a DEFIB
9. Give your health pack to the other members who are actively shooting. (You are running around tending to their medical needs... you should have a high amount of health.

10. Keep yourself alive. You're no good to your teammates when you are dead.

MAN DOWN! WE GOTTA MAN DOWN! (Helping Incapacitated teammates)

This section usually comes into play when you are past four minutes.

When you have a man down you have to be careful when helping them up.

Some things to consider. If you go and help them up while there are Special Infected assaulting you..... it's probably not a good idea to go help them up. Here are some things to consider.

1. Are they in immediate danger of dying?
  • No: They'll be fine. However, it should be my top priority to help them.
  • Yes: I need to eliminate all enemies before I can help them up.
(I usually crouch on top of my teammate so that any infected that approach will go for me instead of my downed teammate. This is also good because it usually gives your teammates the sign that they can pick the downed member up while you fight off the infected.)

2. Will I endanger myself or my teammates if I go and help them?
  • No: Go over there and help them up! (If your teammate is already helping the downed member up, cover them and make sure they get them up successfully.
  • Yes: This usually occurs when the member who has been incapacitated is being stupid.
If the answer is yes, don't waste your time on this team member. One idiot is not worth losing three people.

3. Should I help them up if there is a tank?

The answer to this is yes but only if it is possible. NEVER help a teammate who is down while a tank is standing over them. This will result in the tank smashing your teammate and killing them.
If the tank is at a distance then yes, it is ideal that you help them up. If the tank is near you, then your top priority should be killing the tank first. After you have done so, it is ideal to help your teammate up.

There will be people who say "Help me" or those people who spam messages and then whine about how you didn't help them. There will even be people who accuse you of just standing around and watching them die. Don't let this pressure you. People like this don't understand the the small but important things about Survival.

If you need to get a teammate up fast.... I suggest you use ADRENALIN.
Whenever I grab a defibrillator I usually grab adrenaline too! They are a great combo!

When nothing is fine.... Adrenaline.
MEDIC! MEDIC! OH GOD WE NEED A MEDIC OVER HERE! (Reviving dead teammates)

It is always a good idea to have at least one teammate carry a Defibrillator on them. I usually consider this person the "Medic" of the team. When ever a teammate dies, don't lose your cool. Their body will still be there after you kill that Jockey.
Some tips:

1. Have a Defibrillator.
2. Know who is carrying the Defibrillator
3. The player who is carrying the Defibrillator is a slightly more valuable player..... So make sure you don't lose them.

When you do go and revive them, communicate with your teammates to locate their body. One perfect instance of this happening was when a teammate was killed by a tank that knocked him off the plank in "The Passing"..... Just a few short words were said and we were able to get him back on his feet and back into the fight.
The situation went like this:

Teammate: MEDIC.... ONE K.I.A (Killed In Action)
Medic: Body?
Teammate: By the barrel of fire
Medic: Covering Fire
Teammate: Ready?
Medic: Ready
Teammate: Go

I have only seen this ONCE and this was in a friends only.We had all agreed on key words and phrases and knew the meanings of all of them. I highly suggest playing a friends-only if you are one of those "record setting" survival players.

Occasionally there will be griefers and 10 year olds who demand that you revive them. Don't do it. Save it for someone who is worth it.
JUST F***ING LEAVE HIM. HE'S DEAD NOW. HE'S DEAD. (Dropping dead weight)
In every battle there will be casualties.
In every battle there will be martyrs.

In every battle there will be choices that you have to make.

As the section is titled.... sometimes you have to drop dead weight. You HAVE to leave people behind in order to survive. This is not something easy to do... well it is... if you know that the possibility is highly likely to begin with.

Here is a scenario for you.

So the Developers decided to inconveniently place the starting radios in the worst places on the map... out in open spaces.... in places far away from good camping spots. Ikr... F*** them.

Anyway... Your whole team is ready. Ready to fight. Ready for the hellstorm that is about to engulf you. You start the radio and initiate the game.

The war has begun.

You open fire with your M16 as commons pour out from all possible locations. You remember the camping spot that your team decided on.
You immediately head for the spot right after you hit the button and you see that your teammates are close behind.
You hear one of your characters NPCs calling out for help and turn around to see a jockey on their head carrying them in the opposite direction of where you are heading. You shoot the jockey off with precision.
Your teammate is way behind you. The rest of your team has already made their way to the ladder, climbed up, and safely made it to the camping spot. You stay behind in an attempt to aid your struggling teammate. You are just a few steps from the ladder and try your hardest to shoot the commons that are now swarming your teammate. Your teammate gets pounced by a hunter.

You hear the tank music. You have to make a decision.
End of Scenario.

In this scenario... you only have one choice to make... Leave your teammate. You cant do anything for them now. You tried... But there was nothing else that could be done.

YOU need to get yourself out of there. Its better to have one teammate dead right from the start than to have two dead from the start.

Here is my belief.
SELF PRESERVATION
Help others.... but not if it puts you at serious risk. I know... its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing... but still... how are you gonna help other people if you're dead???

This will happen a lot when playing survival and you should be prepared to make the decisions at A SPLIT SECOND.

Is your teammate surrounded? (Yes/No) Yes: Try your best to help them out and aid them in anyway you can... but know when to pull out and leave them. If you know you can't... don't.

This situation may arise in many different forms... so you must know what to do when it occurs. YOU need to decide.

What to be prepared for afterward:
Inexperienced players will often be very hurt and offended by this action. It is important to express that you tried to help and that you did everything that you could.
Griefing, Name calling, scolding, and even vote kicking might occur.

Experienced players will know that it had to be done. They will understand.
PROPER USE OF RESOURCES
You only have ONE of the following items.
  • Med Kit
  • Throwable item (Bile Bomb, Molotov, Pipe Bomb)
  • Defibrillator
(Pills and Adrenaline are not listed because they are easily accessible throughout the map.)

Once you use the items in the list.... it is going to be REALLY hard to get another one.

Let's talk about Bile Bombs......
DON'T CHOOSE IT... IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE IT.

How to, and when to properly use a Bile Bomb.

Save it for when ♥♥♥♥ gets real.
How do you know when ♥♥♥♥ gets real???
♥♥♥♥ usually gets real when two or more players are either Incapacitated or K.I.A.
When this happens.... Please proceed to throw the bile bomb away from your team in a calm and orderly fashion. If there are zombies in front of you, please make sure to eliminate any zombies that are in front of you so that you can throw the Bile correctly. Once this is done, please proceed to initiate the process of reviving or helping teammates up.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ******IMPORTANT******* !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF YOU THROW A BILE BOMB AT A TANK AND A CHARGER IS NEARBY... THE CHARGER WILL CHARGE THE TANK!!!! THE CHARGER WILL ACTUALLY STUMBLE THE TANK!!! IT WILL THEN PROCEED TO HIT THE TANK!
THIS HELPS SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH. SOOOO SOOOO SOOO MUCH. USE THIS TIME TO PICK UP TEAMMATES AND RELOAD AND HEAL.

HEALTH KITS

Only use kits when you are low on health. Low on health means when you are in the RED zone of your health bar. You will usually be limping by this point. If you have pills.... use them FIRST!!!!
Save the kit for a last shot at surviving.
Now....
there are people who like to heal their teammates. Its best that you refrain from doing so. Save your kit for when you ABSOLUTELY need it.

REMEMBER
RED Health bar... bad. Green Health bar.... Put that health kit down right now or so help me I will take it from your dead body!

RED, DON'T BE DEAD.
GREEN, DON'T BE MEAN.

Death is inevitable..... You can't run from it.

But you can postpone it.
Going out like a Badass (Last Man Standing) (Inspiring Words)

*NOTE*
This section does not have advice on how to die alone! This section is to give you inspiration to keep fighting until the end. It is written in hopes that, when all hell breaks loose and you're the last one standing, you will not cower in a corner and wait to die.... but to charge into the crowd of commons running at you and end the game like a badass.
Cause you're going to die either way.

After you die and the new game begins. You should tell your teammates to...
GET THEIR F***ING S*** TOGETHER.

In the end... all that's left is you..... and your skills. Your badass skills, that is.
You're the last one alive. Everyone else is dead. Your last teammate just died a second ago and you saw it. What are you gonna do? Are you going to stare? Are you going to stop so that you can type "NOOOOO".....? Are you going to commit suicide?

NO THE F*** YOU'RE NOT

What you're going to do is keep calm and keep fighting. Stay Strong and Carry On.
It's up to you to make those last few moments count.

So how do you do that?
If a common runs at you.... deal with them.
That jockey doesn't ride you.... YOU ride that jockey. That's right.... KILL THAT LITTLE THING AND MOVE ON TO YOUR NEXT VICTIM LIKE THE BLOOD THIRSTY BEAST YOU ARE.
YOU..... Hunt the hunters
YOU..... knock the undead s*** out of that charger
YOU..... spit out rounds (bullets) at that spitter.
Just shoot the boomers when they're far away.... it's really easy.
Shoot the smokers too...

and.... if a tank punches you......
PUNCH IT BACK. YOU KNOCK THAT TANK INTO THE PREVIOUS WEEK. (That way you wont have to deal with it next week.)

Going out in style feels good. Trust me. It feels awesome. I don't know maybe I just have a weird mindset.

The people on my paintball team laugh at me for doing this but....
Whenever there is no other way out, I don't surrender... I run right at the people who are shooting me and I shoot back. No, I don't shout and run in slow motion at the same time... that's kind of really hard to do. If you've never tried it before try it.... and you'll know what I mean.
One thing though... if you ever play paintball...... don't run at a .50 cal mounted paintball machine gun..... Run away from it.

Trust me....

Just run.
What I'm trying to say is that it feels good in the moment. However, you have to think fast.
Your last few moments of the game decides whether you are a fighter or a flighter of the gaming world.
(I know "flighter" isn't a word but I don't give a flying F*** about it. You should know what I mean.)

Anyway, it's your choice whether you want to lay down and die or go out fighting. Which one sounds better?
It's up for you to decide.

Good Luck out there....

Or, going out in a badass way results into you bumping into a tank, getting punched into the deep blue sea, or have less than 39 health remaining. And when a jockey rides you, bad luck, you're dead. Spitter? Maybe. So god help me, that going out in style results in me going to your house, taking a paintball gun, unoad all the ammo, and roundhouse kick you 50 times in a row and then unload full clip with an AK-47. So trying to be badass may not end well...
